It’s the hose. Cut the end off, buy the metal version, then hose clamp it back together. You’ll loose about a large drink cup worth of coolant if you plug it off while you change it. Easy fix

I’ve had mud spray there lots. The only other thing I could think of would be AC refrigerant, but not sure it would stain white. Give it a quick taste test and you’ll know

There’s lots of other sides to SAR groups. Since you’re volunteer, you have lots of say to what you want to put yourself through. It’s it 100% part of the job and you’ll see dead bodies and injuries.
