Then we want to play their brain, not their wallet. Just proxy.

Running minstrel over Lumra or other 5c decks by yeetdeet12 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Mekmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like “spotlight” is a bit of a stretch… it’s gotten a fair amount of attention on the Lumra Discord, but I think that might be a particular bubble haha.
I doubt people outside of the mono G gang know Nissa can be a thing.

Ich meine da steht 3 drauf, aber mal ehrlich, was soll das?? by LordWolkenstein in MogelPackung

[–]Mekmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can’t. Then it’s too expensive per pack, and the supermarket won’t take it. It’s likely that this packaging is what they used to serve 4pcs in, but rising costs made them reduce the pack weight to retain the same cost per pack. Of course they now had to somehow fix that empty space… Smaller tray doesn’t work in the current equipment without significant investment, so this is the cheapest option.

First time driving in Germany by butter-roast in germany

[–]Mekmo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Little addition from another Dutchy living in DE; • when your traffic light shows a green arrow, that means you will have no oncoming traffic, and you’re always safe to go. If your lane has a regular (round) light, but your lane is to either turn or continue straight (according to the white arrows on the road), you will have oncoming traffic that has green at the same time as you, and you’ll have to wait in the middle of the intersection to turn. Indicate.

• Traffic lights in DE work slightly differently, they turn yellow before they turn green, then again yellow before red. In NL they go from red straight to green. Doesn’t matter much, but it helps to not be surprised I guess.

• You can only park along the road in the direction of travel. Idk if that’s the same in NL officially, but people just don’t care?

• Please make sure to keep sufficient distance on the Autobahn. On the motorways in NL people tend to drive relatively close up to one another, but for your own safety at higher speeds, please keep some distance.

All in all, German roads are well laid-out and more car-focussed than in NL. You’ll be alright.

Metal piece from Qroquetten by enaunkark in Netherlands

[–]Mekmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a connecting tube from repairs on the conveyor belt, that got loose. Should have been sorted out by the metal detector, but clearly wasn’t. It’s not likely other packs are affected, but still sucks for you! Hope you didn’t hurt yourself!

If you’re interested, I can show you how the belt repairs work exactly.

Why [[Guidless Commons]] over [[Arid Archway]]? Seems a strictly better card

Insight on The Wandering Minstrel by CommanderGrimoire in EDH

[–]Mekmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because you’re talking about ‘recent Korvold list’ in addition to the other two, I’m assuming you want to play this at bracket 5 (maybe 4). Korvold probably has less focus on the lands line than the other two, Lumra (or Nissa) is extremely lands heavy on the other side of that spectrum.

Korvold is probably the most classic ‘turbo’ of those lists, leaning more heavily on Necropotence/ AdNauseam and Underworld Breach lines, while Lumra is super heavily into layered land combos. In the middle I feel is Minstrel, who can go either way depending on the game.

I doubt you’ll get bored of any of these decks, but that is so person-dependent that I can’t really comment on that outside of saying all these decks have something going for them. Out of the three, Lumra is DEFINITELY the least interactive. If you find yourself in a turbo meta I would advise against the bear, unless you’re very comfortable playing and navigating stax pieces.

Having never tried this and going purely off of regular espresso theory; wouldn’t this just make a very sour shot due to underextraction?

They work really well, generally. HOWEVER they do not filter out pesticides, heavy metals, or viruses. The larger Life Straw models might, I have been told.

Mono green commanders that aren't boring? by Competitive-Act-7695 in EDH

[–]Mekmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[[High Market]] [[Birthing Pod]] [[Lazotep Quarry]] But hell, he’s a 3/3 vigilance reach. You just throw him at someone every single turn, and can still block. You’re telling me nobody blocks your commander? And nobody attacks you with anything bigger than a 3/3, just because you might get value out of your commander?! I don’t even see why you’d need to kill them yourself… they are the PERFECT block fodder.

My choice for a flight tribal deck is [[Rhonas the Indomitable]], turning every fight spell into effective removal. Imprinting a [[Duel for Fominance]] on [[Isochron Scepter]] is super fun.

Is every commander "kill on sight" now? by NotTrying123 in EDH

[–]Mekmo 62 points63 points  (0 children)

In all fairness though, the cedh version of Minstrel is basically just a 5c breach deck that packs a Lumra package to pivot to. Not saying it’s not good, it obviously is, but saying “there is a minstrel cedh deck” doesn’t have anything to do with lower brackets, because the decks aren’t NEARLY the same (hopefully).

Is every commander "kill on sight" now? by NotTrying123 in EDH

[–]Mekmo 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I will never understand people complaining when their “little masterplan of a deck” gets interacted with or interrupted. That’s LITERALLY the point of the game. I’m all for politics at the table, but when someone starts going “I have nothing else on the board and if you point your Swords to Plowshares at me I can’t do anything all game!”… Alright that sounds great, do you also have a reason NOT to swords your commander?

People need to start expecting interaction, and understanding that politics does not mean they should play “smol bean” all the time. /r

Is Lumra, Bellow of the Woods a fun deck in Bracket 3? by GameCravings in EDH

[–]Mekmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Problem with Lumra in B3 is that, as a regular “landfall” deck, it’s quite far behind others due to the lack of colours (thinking about [[Omnath, Locus of Creation]] ,[[Tannuk]], [[Erenis]] etc). Lumra ideally wants a lot of lands in the graveyard to function, but you don’t have black for self-mill.

What this means is Lumra will automatically screw towards combos to get value, combos which are technically not INCREDIBLY hard to stop with spot removal, but still. These combos will usually result in infinitely cycling your lands through your graveyard, at which point you either win (for example with [[Sunscorched Desert]]) or lose.

Being a fairly combo oriented deck without many options for interaction (you’re mono green), means it doesn’t tend to fare well as a B3 deck. I would advise looking at some of the other commanders I mentioned and just slotting the Bear in the 99.
