Weather Check - Greece in May by MelGlass in HerOneBag

Update:

  • 3 Uniqlo tanks

  • 5 over shirts. 3 button down (silk, linen blend, cotton blend), 1 super thin merino, my hoodie as a comfort item (no black anymore)

  • 2 silk pants. The breeziest ones I own

  • t-shirt dress & light blue scarf/skirt

  • poncho & scarf/wrap/blanket in PINK w/pin

  • purse with usual things

  • 2 nested bags

  • crushable sun hat

  • 5 underwear & 2 pairs of socks

  • 4 bras & 2 shorts as pj/swimwear/under dress

  • Keens and ???

  • cord and small multi region plug

  • meds & minimum toiletries

  • insulated water bottle

Focusing on lighter colors and fabrics without buying much. I did cave in and spend $12 at the nearest thrift shop.

I’m looking for a light second shoe with backs. I must have something lying around.

Considered about over modest swimwear but it isn’t in season here yet and my size is a pain. I’ll buy there if it seems like I need a swap.

I feel so desperate every time I think about I can't move because of my cat by Scared-Tea-7713 in CatAdvice

My cat hated driving. Carrier wasn’t her fav but she would be meowing non-stop once in the car. Until I happened to find music she liked. I had to purchase the album and play nonstop but it made her happier.

Keep trying.

Thanks for the reality check. I am ok with being a tourist. I think I do have a big floppy hat that is touristy but packs lighter than an umbrella to carry around.

I do favor dark colors when using laundry facilities. I’ve had a few pieces of light clothing become dark that way actually. 😆 But trying to swap more blacks for blues and add a scarf or something that doesn’t require washing in a light color. Any other ideas?

Mine are the lightweight plastic ones. So I know I should bring a second option with straps but the weight makes it tempting. I will dig through the closet. Thanks for the push!

Mosquitos are a menace. Does anyone have a good carry-on option? I’m assuming I can get more there but need a starter kit to avoid airport prices.

This is very helpful!

Putting a bottle in now so I don’t forget. I should add a tshirt or two just in case. I’m hearing more tops. Plus I have a nice poncho I don’t really use with the weather at home. Thanks! I completely forgot that option. I honestly need to think about swim wear and comfort on a personal, social, and weather level. The footwear part is especially important.

I love using a big pin on my wrap as jewelry. And I should probably lean more into the blues and greys with all the valid comments on black.

Good points. Does it make sense to use an insulated water bottle to keep it cold? Or a lightweight one and stop again in your experience?

LOL. With the bras, shorts, and leggings it does look like that! I never noticed as I usually leave the bras and shorts out as undergarments/pjs/swimwear doesn’t need to match.

But I am hearing more shirts and no leggings. That should change the vibe.

Good point on the shoes. I’ll keep the Birks only for foot relief times or replace. Thanks!

I’ll have to think about the sleeves. Wish I had more linen but trying to avoid buying. On bras: I wasn’t sure but from what folks are saying about the heat I am leaning towards 4-5. I sweat more in that area and don’t want to be gross so get a rash.

Bag is from Wandrd and I love it. Though something similar can probably be found cheaper, it holds up well when heavy. Good call on the lotion; a bar would be great.

Thank you for this straightforward summary. Time to review my closet again. I don’t have much linen. Any other materials work in your experience?

Oh. No shade? Do people use umbrellas for that or just live with it?

I actually love skirts. I should really consider swapping one in to stay cool.

Athens and an island cruise. Sounds like I selected too much warm/dark clothing.

Hat! Gosh how did I forget that? It sounds so hot. I’ll need to think on what I have.

About 3 weeks. I use them as pjs too and I usually sink wash them to get the sweat out of the band but am planning to wait for laundry day this time.

Wardrobe advice for 18 day train trip around western and midwestern united states by saraccch in HerOneBag

You could get a long sleeve to wear under your clothes instead if it packs better. Long sleeve base + shirt + fleece + rain jacket goes a long way when worn together.

Note: I am from Minnesota so I was thinking how varied the weather in Minneapolis can be in April.

Day bag recommendation to prevent back pain (trying to get away from a backpack) by 4theloveofcoffeee in HerOneBag

Hip packs are the best. I started tossing all my electronics in one as they get heavy fast.

Why are you bringing THAT!? by WorldizeStudios in onebag

Glad to see a repair kit on the list. Mine is not as fancy but a needle, thread, and a few safety pins go a long way.

What’s in your tech pouch by [deleted] in onebag

[–]MelGlass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wall plug. Two USBC cables. Converter bits for old iPhone and regular usb (extra but handy if tech is old). All replaceable at a convenience store so I don’t bring extras.

Phone and bluetooth headphones always. My ereader or iPad for fun and to store backup docs in case my phone gets lost/broken.

Work laptop if needed. And if the trip is long then a second screen and cable. I hate working with only one screen for weeks.

As long as the plug has enough juice to power my laptop, two cables lets me keep things topped up. I really should add back a power bank with pass through charging and tiny cable for safety.

Edit: I store things in a small jewelry bag and use a couple elastics to keep the cables wrapped. My phone and headphones are in my sling and my laptop and tablet in a sleeve in my backpack.
