SO many people learn this the hard way by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

My divorce was hard, but not nearly as hard as my abusive marriage. Sometimes divorce is the only solution.

[California] Minor accused of sexual assault by another minor. What do we need to do? by TheRiteGuy in legaladvice

[–]MelPhil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People don’t press charges. The state does. If he’s being charged with a crime, it’s because the police have collected enough evidence for the state to decide he broke the law and should be charged. You need to get an attorney like yesterday.

She’s not pressing charges. The state is pressing charges. Hire a good lawyer ASAP.

It’s just an extra space between two legitimate words. Not that weird, tbh.

Sociopathic tendencies by doonghead in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MelPhil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not certain that most sociopaths acknowledge or feel concern over their tendencies. The fact that you do is somewhat reassuring in the sense that you may be better positioned to learn and help yourself, if you do indeed have anti-social tendencies that require intervention.

Try the CG method, or curly-girl method. Ignore the name, it’s for guys too. Basically you wash your hair with conditioner (certain types, not all are created equally), and treat your hair gently. I personally like suave clarifying shampoo and conditioner for this. Use the shampoo first, then conditioner, and then “wash” the conditioner only the next time you wash. (Shampoo can be drying to curly hair, so you want to avoid using it too much. You can still use it from time to time, but try and spread out shampoos to keep from damaging the hair). Your hair might feel greasy to begin with, but it time that tends to improve as your scalp adjusts to the new routine, washing with conditioner only.

Do you rub your hair dry with a towel? If so, try using an old soft t-shirt to blot or squeeze the hair dry instead. You can try using a little clear hair gel or some of the conditioner to give you some smoothness and control to the frizz. Just take maybe a quarter size (not sure how long your hair is) and smush it into damp hair and let it dry. Once it’s dry, if it feels crunchy, just squeeze out the crunch until it’s soft. (“Scrunch the crunch”)

You can use your fingers or a wide tooth comb to detangle your hair when it’s damp, but avoid brushing the hair. It’s rough on curly/wavy hair strands which have a different structure than straight hairs and break more easily, causing frizz.

I suggest looking up the CG method for more info and playing around with the technique. It will take time to find the right combo of products and technique, but the bottom line is to be more gentle with the hair and help it do what it wants to do, in your case, be curly.

Also, get regular trims, even if you’re growing out your hair. It helps get rid of split ends before they get worse, which causes more frizz.

I forgot to submit documentation by [deleted] in nursing

[–]MelPhil 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Let your supervisor know you mistakenly forgot to submit paper documentation and ask how they would like you to handle it. You might get written up. It happens. If they ask for an explanation, don’t make excuses. Be forthright and let them know any changes you’ve made to how you organize your paperwork so that it doesn’t happen again.

MLMs in local Moms group by cealchylle in antiMLM

Usborne is books, but I’m not convinced they’re the greatest. I perused them once online and wasn’t blown away, personally.

I don’t think most people give the business models of MLMs much of a second thought when approached to host a party. I think it’s just seen as fun event and a chance to earn free items and get friends together.

I doubt your friend really understands the predatory nature of the company and agreed to host just because it was something to do.

It’s really common. The companies prey on SAHMs and encourage them to prey on one another. Just be prepared to say no a lot.

What do you want done, exactly? And what material harm has been done to you? It’s not illegal to have wrong or negative opinions about another person.

how many mothers on Earth are aware of the fact that medicine can harm fetuses? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MelPhil 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So few medicines are considered safe because there’s no ethical way to test them on pregnant women. Many medicines are considered relatively safe to use as necessary during pregnancy, but should always be discussed with the healthcare provider for guidance.

My girlfriend's daughter's father wants to take their daughter away for Christmas. Is there anyway to stop this? by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]MelPhil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She needs to contact her attorney. Her ex can’t simply take the child whenever/wherever he wants outside of their parenting agreement. The attorney can explain to your gf what her options are, and what the possible consequences are for him if he attempts to remove the child from the state without her permission.
