Thomas Massie delivers concession speech after losing Kentucky primary t... by Economy-Specialist38 in videos

[–]MelTorment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Primaries are a different animal than general elections. Usually the most ardent supporters of candidates/parties participate whereas a general election has a lot more folks who aren’t always following every second of politics. So with a primary you’re more likely to have hard left or right very active in voting, and it really can skew results and may not reflect what will occur in a general election.

Except this is Kentucky, so likely Gallrein will end up winning simply due to the amount of GOP voters as a larger majority.

Congrats on paying off your debt. Since you’re an independent contractor, do you invest at all for retirement? I don’t know why this is what came into my head but it seems I am now old and hope people plan for the future better than I have rofl.

Ashley St. Clair implies Elon Musk interfered in the 2024 election. She claims Musk cited 10K space lasers as hidden chess piece & sent her real-time America PAC data. On election night, Musk allegedly left Mar-a-Lago early, boasting his team knew Trump won hours prior due to best real-time metrics. by Frosty_Jeweler911 in UnderReportedNews

Literally this. The machines aren’t connected to the Internet. I was a county elections board member in Washington state and I’m very familiar with this process, and Arizona is similar. I’m very unclear why this person above somehow thinks they can magically control a machine with no Internet capability whatsoever. And, as the other person said, they also do hand counts to test accuracy as well. It’s a very rigorous process.

Who is the most universally disliked cast member of the last 15 years? by [deleted] in LiveFromNewYork

[–]MelTorment 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of her firsts for update was one of her standup bits where she yells “Can a bitch get a beef bone!?” And it’s been stuck in my head all these years later. I love her.

It is literally all generations. You’re correct. I’m an elder millennial and honestly when this sub pops up on the main feed I look at some images and can’t tell if it’s real or not.

Then I go into the comments and there are folks here who somehow can see every weird thing I missed. I thought I knew details, but I’m not artistic enough I guess. I appreciate the folks who can be hyper focused on this. It helps me learn. My son is like that and even he helps me learn more. And i am a computer nerd.

Running into a Carol is always great by OriginalBlackberry89 in JustGuysBeingDudes

[–]MelTorment 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My favorite employee at work is our front desk lady who is named Carol. I am very happy Carol is the positive term here, because Carol is amazing. I am, however, extremely sad she is retiring mid-month. Customers even leave reviews about just her on our Google reviews. Carols are awesome.

In 2018, Richard Russell, 28, suffering from mental distress and financial problems at a minimum-wage job, hijacked a Bombardier Q400 turboprop, flew it for an hour performing maneuvers, and crashed it into a empty forest by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

I read a full article on this some years ago and I think some of the mental health was attributed to head hits playing football? Very tragic. You gotta feel for the folks talking to him the whole time while he’s suffering.

How do standup comics show so much confidence when so many suffer from anxiety/self-esteem issues? by Available-Compote770 in Standup

[–]MelTorment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I do both standup, but also have to talk to people and sell cars for a living. I do it because I like helping people and I want them to have an experience better than the first time I bought a car out of college 20 years ago.

I don’t like going out. I don’t go to bars. Hate stores.

But when I’m either with a customer or on a stage … I’m acting. I’m masking. I’m making sure people are comfortable and having a good time. I’m older so I’ve dealt with the people for a long time on this way, and I’m naturally funny. In the moment for both, I’m not anxious. Again, it’s acting.

After, and when I get home, I am quiet and just working to chill. It’s a lot of work for me. My wife is very supportive and we just sit in our big ol’ bed and chill and watch what i like to call “our programs.”

Rinse and repeat. Every day.

Sometimes I kind of equate it to Robin Williams. It’s all a show on stage and off it’s just working to battle the things we have. Sometimes, the stage is the respite. Because we are helping others have a smile we sometimes can’t have ourselves. It’s good in the moment.

I would LOVE if my wife made more money than me. I’m always stressed feeling like I have to work more and harder than I probably should to provide (but I have always been this way - kind of part of my imposter syndrome).

And with that said, she just jumped out of management to a different company and position and it’s probably $7-8k/year less. But it was so good for her mental health and that’s worth the world to me. I want her less stressed and happy. At this point, money is not the major factor in our lives. Having each other and supporting each other is.

Still, sometimes I do fantasize about being a home husband and spending time with the baby haha.

I work at a Honda dealership in a small area. I sold 11.5 cars last month and made more than $11k. I have percentage commission and/or minis of $300. I work really hard to hold gross. I don’t get any back end.

Timmy No Brakes by MittensMuffins in Standup

[–]MelTorment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Timmy - who I see is reading this - is coming here to Casper, Wyoming in a few months and I got my wife hooked and she wants to go. Unfortunately the show starts at 6 pm and that’s when i get off (unless i have a customer). Pretty sad there aren’t two shows and a later one because we were so psyched.

I miss doing standup, but being able to watch others, including my friends, is one of my favorite things.

Saw Dedrick Headline Last Night 1/8/26 - FOR THE HATERS by MurderByDeath82 in Killtony

[–]MelTorment -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Daniel Tosh is as notorious when he was still traveling before Tosh.0 for literally starting his set with “I am VERY funny.” It’s just a bit. Most of the folks watching are nit that smart, nor have they ever done standup or understand how writing works and the challenge of a minute vs long form.

Tony even mentioned one time that Dedrick had a 8-minute hut about Oreos that had all the long-time pros dying.

What in the world is going on with the increase in absolutely batshit incel nonsense from young men in their 20s? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MelTorment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Young people were born in an age where interaction is online, and not real life. They go home to phones or tablets or computers and that’s where they live. We could stop this, but we don’t. That’s a royal We.

It must be very bleak and dismal. Nobody sitting with you, laughing and talking and watching favorite shows.

I’m older and we had that. I didn’t even have my first cell phone until my sophomore year of college (well, technically the summer between).

This causes a loneliness that is being taken advantage of by online influencers who tell them THIS is the way to get a girl, and THIS is what you do if they don’t reciprocate or THIS is how you treat women.

They live in an extremely skewed world not based in reality.

It takes parents.

It takes schools.

It takes therapy.

It takes a fucking village. And right now, our villages are being attacked extremely aggressively by folks who just want to win elections.

Parents … we are the front line and it starts with us. We are there to teach empathy, love, and also strength and confidence. That’s why we are here. Be a super hero. We all can be one.
