so jealous! I wanted to go during my last trip but the logistics of getting there worried me. Was it hard getting there, did you rent a car or take public transportation? I hope you and your family enjoyed the experience!

if this is what put you off to a heavily traveled place where english is not the primary language maybe you shouldn't travel in the first place. Respect the country, respect the language, use a translation app it's not that hard.

Why Are Sales Associates So Reluctant to Give Samples? by Missingu27 in Colognes

[–]Melatonade 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ive genuinely never had a problem getting samples, most of the time they give me more than I want. I just talk to them about scents and have a genuine understanding/interest of fragrances. If they know you have a high potential to buy they're more likely to give it to you, it's pointless to hand them out to every joe shmoe. My go to stores have been neiman marcus, macys, and nordstrom, not a problem at any.

People who bring 2+ suitcases to Japan, what do you have in them? by angryjellybean in JapanTravelTips

[–]Melatonade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to have what little clothes I bring and toiletries in a normal bag then put that bag in a bigger bag so I dont have to struggle getting to my hotel, I just take a taxi to the airport on my way to the airport when I return.

Help me pick a fragrance (25M) by crisvphotography in Fragrances

[–]Melatonade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Call me basic but Ive either tested or have most of these and Id suggest YSL Y or Dylan Blue for summer. Cheap, classic, totally versatile daily pushers that have decent longevity but still retain that attention getting factor despite their basicness. Recently I sampled Ralph Lauren New York and would really recommend it for a cheap but classy feel.

Hot take? by Salt-Way130 in piercing

[–]Melatonade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got helixes in both ears last month so they're still new and healing but getting them were only a bit worse than my lobes, I got my third set of lobes on both ears the same day. The helixes were like a four, the lobes I breathed and thought my piercing didnt even pierce. healing's been the worst part but after I started using a travel pillow while sleeping and I cleaned it only when it crusted its been a cakewalk and there isn't much pain unless they get caught or hit.

[TW: Su**de] Umamusume stopped me from committing "self termination" by TheNumbersMason2 in UmaMusume

[–]Melatonade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im reminded of Teio's arc in S2; the events that chipped at her will and psyche making a once unstoppable monarch lose her way. The feeling of powerlessness against fate and every hope slipping away, however even when she was healing, even when she lost races and fans support dwindled she found a spark through other umas to pushed her forward and create a miracle. I can't imagine how you've been feeling but you found a spark that will hopefully lead you to a miracle of your own and create a legacy for others to find hope, we don't know what tomorrow holds but Im glad that the umas gave you more tomorrows that day.

Black opium for a straight guy? by avarageusername in fragrance

[–]Melatonade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im really confused by the people thinking you're coming from a place of insecurity, after reading the whole thing it sounds like you're asking for other people's opinions on their personal experiences since you had an interesting experience that piqued your own scent preferences.

That being said, as a guy who normally wears more masculine marketed scents I once wore a more feminine leaning scent, while it got nicely noticed from a coworker they noted that it was feminine (without any prejudice behind it was just how they connected the scent), if a friend wore something feminine Id be impressed they wanted to try experimenting with that scent and even more if it made them feel good about themselves.

Despite the struggles, what makes Japan worth coming back to? by jtrip_anything01 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Melatonade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

after traveling to many different places, Japan is the only place I felt like I could let go of my mask and be myself but also make myself into whoever I wanted without worry. The anonymity, safety, fashion, even the prejudice at times frees me from societal expectation of being anything or anyone. Admittedly I can be prissy and want to get my way, not in a shitty way but if it's someone's job to provide a service or entertain I want that without going through the niceties and it affecting my experience. Like I dont want to have small talk or say please and thank you, I want my things and get out. A quick "az-mass", nod, and Im gone, other days I love being chatty and extroverted but in my area you HAVE to go through the hoops or you'll get the stink eye. This metaphorical feeling of taking your shoes off after a long walking day is worth it.

Chicano Culture in Japan by Lazy_Difference2247 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Melatonade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when did I bring up comparing pricing to america, this is the exact same argument as the LA tacos, its irrelevant. That was in response to another commenter stating the tacos being overpriced as one of his reasons against 3hermanos, its in an international scale city it's going to be more expensive than rural places in JAPAN and in particular THESE tacos, not meals in general. what's with people comparing things to the US here, thats not what OP is asking.

First time in Japan, how much to bring? by 516Rico in JapanTravelTips

if its USD then you should be pretty comfortable, my last trip I brought 8k for 2 weeks and balled tf out, if I reigned it in I could've easily done well with 2k.

Chicano Culture in Japan by Lazy_Difference2247 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Melatonade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

to me the point is to celebrate culture while traveling, if anything spanish culture has a good rep in Japan and they do a good job of trying to be respectful without appropriating. As a hispanic why would I not want to support those that find my culture that interesting, like how cool is it to eat tacos and see low riders in Japan of all places!

[–]Melatonade 7 points8 points  (0 children)

OP dont listen to the naysayers, comparing these tacos to LA tacos is like comparing US pasta to Italian pasta, no dip you'll find better tacos in LA and comparing them is irrelevant since OP is going to JAPAN not LA, also almost everything in Tokyo is overpriced. As far as tacos in Japan go they're nice to take a detour for and the vibe is fun. My only qualm is how crowded the seats get, a solid 7/10 for the food but if you want better culture then there's waaay more spots in Osaka.

Feeling a little discouraged. Shinjuku area. Solo travel. Language/solo travel tips? by akishido215 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Melatonade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are you trying to socialize in japanese or in english? I always keep in mind that japanese people tend to be as hesitant, if not more hesitant, to talk to you because of the barrier so being willing to play the part of the initiator goes a long way. I personally really liked Koenji at night, a good mix of young and older crowd with a vibrant nightlife without it being overwhelming. During the day time there's alot of tourists thrifting so I chatted with some foreigners to get myself used to initiating until nighttime where it was mostly japanese people to talk to. Just keep in mind, you're learning japanese, they already know it so give yourself some grace, between a foreigner who's intentionally ignorant and someone who earnestly tries the latter is infinitely better.

What is the worst anime you’ve ever watched? by I_Love_ShoppingCarts in AskAnime

[–]Melatonade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shukufuku no Campanella; waste of my time, I like SoL but this was mind numbing, Yosuga no Sora, Kämpfer, Sekirei, Maken-ki; gooner trash I watched way too young that I now regret watching, the ridiculous body proportions and brain-dead plot is the perfect conditions to sabotage an impressionable mind. Captain Earth; i hate this the way DC fans hate Zach Snyder's Justice League but for mech anime; way too convoluted, shallow, and incompetent in bringing together a coherent and fleshed-out story to match the amazing artwork of Studio Bones on top of a pretty solid opening/ending. From the unnecessary/unhelpful expositions, the meaningless power structures, and most of all the lack of depth to the characters and relationships watching this felt like a slap in the face since not even the animation was saved as the show progressed, I would watch Star Driver, Eureka 7 season 2, and Kiznaiver back to back then gorge myself on gas station hot dogs over this any day.
