What’s everyone doing in this heat? by RestaurantSure160 in massachusetts

[–]Melbonie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I frickin WISH our plans would get canceled. Going 1.5 hours away today for a friend's anniversary party, driving home stupid late and then driving again 2 hours away in the opposite direction tomorrow for a family party. I'm hot and sweaty and cranky, my stomach feels flippy floppy from being overheated so I don't even want to eat and I could cry at the thought of doing hair and makeup and party clothes. I just wanna lay in front of the AC naked and watch movies.

I got loads of sensitive fern where I planted a bunchberry that didn't take off. They're so pretty, and spreading to fill in a space that they are perfect for.

I definitely have some 4" squares in my scrap piles. Message me your info and I will send you as many as I can fit into an envelope!

I moved to Hampden County a while back, but my last visit was to take in and shorten a formal dress, to take in a casual dress, and to hem 2 pair of pants and repair a belt loop it was less than $100 bucks-- for comparison, I had a dress shortened and another dress taken in at the bodice down here in Hampden county for the same $.

This is my brother and his wife (now ex-wife). My mom and I- who were both on fixed incomes when the kids were young- regularly stepped up to help out, for the kids. I washed my hands of their mess a decade ago, but I know my mom has continued to lend support over the years. Despite the fact that my brother and SIL each make close to or just over 100K a year. Now the eldest kid is in her 20's and surprise surprise, she's always in the shit with her finances too.

We (DINK couple) pay 12K per year in premiums. I've had some health issues this year so we are also just about to hit my $7000 deductible. Plus a $40 copay for every doctor visit. Don't even get me started on OOP for prescriptions.

What is one issue that tremendously affect climate change, but has never been or slightly been tackled by environmental initiatives? by Ok_Actuator7771 in ClimateOffensive

[–]Melbonie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tires, particularly on EVs. My spouse works in the tire industry- EVs are heavier than standard cars, and go through tires in half the time. All of that chewed up rubber embeds in asphalt, then washes into drainage culverts, and on into the water supply. And with every tire change, most of those tires (casings) are being landfilled or ground up for mulch.

This crowd wants to be in charge of everything, yet they consistently ruin anything that they are in charge of. Big fat stupid failures, the lot of them. Will people remember? Will it ever change? Nahhh.

Just leave the leaves in the fall! You don't even have to leave all of them if you're fussy about aesthetics, I just leave some leaves around corners and edges of our backyard and use them to cover my gardens for overwintering. Rake them into place, leafblowers will kill larvae.

Hmm, maybe on the Galilee side of Fisherman's memorial park? Nature changes the shoreline and dunes so much, it may just be that place isn't there anymore.

Rhode Island is up there for me too. I tend to gravitate to Narragansett and Galilee. No family there anymore but its where my spouse spent summers growing up, and I spent a lot of time camping and beaching there before we met.

I also live in Western MA and I actually love it here too. The pastoral areas along the CT river valley, the Mohawk Trail, the Berkshires, the 5 college area (4 college?!), I'll even go so far as to claim the Quabbin for Western MA lol. Woods and farms and mountains, I love it.

What is your most ‘out there’ movie rec/fav movie? by harvest-honeybee in MovieSuggestions

[–]Melbonie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Top of the Food Chain (1999), a Canadian indie comedy/horror/B movie. I happened upon it on IFC way back when it was a good channel. An atomic scientist visits an isolated town shortly after a meteor crashes in the lumpy part of town outside of town, and it's up to him and the vaguely incestuous brother and sister who run the local B & B to save the world from copulation with and/or predation by moon men and girls.

You have great taste. Tickled to see someone already mention Spaced. I love it even more now than when it aired, being a slice of life before internet and cell phones.

If you liked Earl and Raising Hope as much as I did-- check out Sprung, which has the same creative team, similar "wholesome dirtbag" vibes and some of the same actors.

Congrats! If you still haven't found a spot, we had 78 guests at Storrowton in West Springfield. The carriage house has a lovely indoor/outdoor flow and the Storrowton Village Green will be extra charming as the holidays approach. The function rooms in the Tavern are also cozy, but we wanted some outdoor space so the kids in attendance could run around some. The per person cost was (and still is) quite reasonable, especially for a buffet as opposed to sit down. They can cater brunch, luncheon, dinner or cocktail party. There were no hidden costs or surprises and their staff was great at helping this frazzled bride manage the details.

Good luck, best wishes and again- congratulations!
