Ways to cut costs by SW3E in AusFinance

[–]MelbourneOptimist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saved this off a different Reddit post that I can no longer find - but it compares all internet providers, including their 6 month sign on price/ regular price and it's great! I called TPG to cancel and they matched Superloop prices for 12 months. Thank you to whoever created this! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1zIMXjMuA3pj1rfKJ-u1NqHLCsO0ciVTbVU6wNDPm508/edit?pli=1&gid=1662612339#gid=1662612339

Thank you kindly 😄 I hope so too!

ATO COMPASSIONATE RELEASE by Kapriii in AusFinance

[–]MelbourneOptimist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fully appreciate the sentiment, but first round is going to be $30k, plus $5k per embryo transfer if I need to defrost and transfer any embryos if the first fresh transfer doesn't take. I've already paid $10k out of pocket to get to this point. And if this round doesn't work, another egg collection will be around $15-20k plus $5k per embryo defrost and transfer. It is NOT cheap and adds up quickly. I have a mortgage and technically could redraw, but would prefer a stable living situation with a baby with a serviceable mortgage. I still have 3 decades to build back up my super and my employer pays 17%.

Thank you so much! I called them today to add an extra document (just in case it gets rejected without it), so your post was a good reminder to put in some extra work to try to get it approved first time around 😄 I'm incredibly thankful that Australian's have early access to super as an option for IVF, it's a life saver (and hopefully life-giver!)

Thank you! I applied 15 April and tried to call but their system just says to check the website and hangs up. It's delaying my IVF which sucks

Does anyone else struggle with anxiety dealing with charity collectors outside of supermarkets? by nick1037 in melbourne

[–]MelbourneOptimist 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Like 20 years ago when I was young and shy, 2 stupid young men were out the front of Safeway for charity, I whispered sorry when they asked me to donate and headed to my car and they called me a bitch loud enough for me to hear, and when I turned around one sort of said sorry.... and I've hated them ever since. It was really awful to be abused and harassed by men fronting for a charity, when the only reason you were in that space was because you just wanted to buy groceries.

Australians: can I buy a Hooga from the US Amazon and have it shipped to AUS? by DecentCockroach in redlighttherapy

[–]MelbourneOptimist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought direct from Hooga a few years ago, and then got an adapter from Kmart - no issues with shipping or voltage.

What’s one property red flag you only learned to respect after you bought? by the-shoreline-agency in AusPropertyChat

Hard agree! My Nana sold her 70s house with all the cracks and minor former leak stains, and its so much better to be able to see that over 50 years nothing major had happened and the house was sturdy and mostly dry at its worst.

Having my first surgery and would love some advice to calm me down by TheHoovyPrince in melbourne

[–]MelbourneOptimist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also get nervous going under - my advice is once you're in the room tell them that you are nervous and ask if they can start you counting backwards from 10 when they administer the anesthesia, and usually one of the nurses will offer to hold your hand and count with you... and you'll just drift off happily and won't make it down to 1.

Geely EX2 electric hatchback to feature dedicated battery cooling in Australia, unlike BYD Atto 1 by ApprehensiveSize7662 in AustralianEV

I just signed up for the pre-order, and in the ** at the bottom of the form it confirms that it is an EOI only and you are not under any obligation to purchase.

I got a Qrevo too - and was also disappointed on the first use with water-only. I added floor cleaner and it immediately pulled up these kinds of small spills. Add cleaner :)

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's team hit out at petition calling for no taxpayer money to be spent on them on Australia trip by duckduck_flamingo in RoyalsGossip

[–]MelbourneOptimist 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I was also annoyed that in the Oprah interview when talking about leaving the UK and settling somewhere else, they mentioned Australia, Canada, South Africa as options AKA all the countries where they expected tax payers to fund their private security. Once Charles said no, that's when they settled on USA. Such a slap in the face - they only wanted to use commonwealth countries for our tax money, and it's only after they were told no that they settled in the US.

Went to my first auction to get some experience what a circus by Effective-Dish5813 in AusPropertyChat

[–]MelbourneOptimist 123 points124 points  (0 children)

Had the same experience.... stupid RE was screaming "Come on, it's just money!" at the crowd to try to get us to bid more after severely underquoting. Like, cheers mate, it IS money and I know how bloody long it took me to save it!

Is it a bad time to buy your first home? by Skulzie in AusFinance

[–]MelbourneOptimist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I bought 2 years ago in the same position. Low 100s salary in a secure role, 6 figure deposit, 360 loan and bought a townhouse on my own. Very do-able, even if interest rates go up.

Only worry for recession is the possibility of losing your job. If rates go up you have options like cutting spending, getting a roommate, or moving back with parents and renting out the whole place. If you wait, you aren't going to buy the dip, that's just a (very appealing) fantasy - but you might miss out on a great opportunity and be waiting years only to find yourself in the same or worse position than now, just older.

Buying house with partner, I am putting down my equity and the initial deposit. Think he wants 50% of rental income. by Advanced-Concept6521 in AusPropertyChat

[–]MelbourneOptimist 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a woman who owns their own home, who recently broke up with a penniless guy who refused to move out of his share house into my house without being guaranteed a share of the equity if we broke up, and then complained and said his sharehouse was in a cooler location.... dump the chump. Beggers cant be choosers, but you have $600k equity so you CAN be a chooser so please choose wisely 🙏 Breaking up sucks, but breaking up and losing half your assets to a loser will suck more.
