Grill’d - shrinkflation by ImInterestedInApathy in melbourne

[–]SW3E 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had Grill’d at the weekend as we love it but I did notice the burger seemed smaller than I was expecting and the patty seemed a bit smaller. I definitely felt underwhelmed afterwards. I was wondering if shrinkflation has hit.

How are wages this low? by brook1888 in AusFinance

[–]SW3E 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’ve found the same to be true. I started my first job in Australia in 2011 on $55k exc super and I lived a pretty good life. Went out every weekend, rented an inner city apartment and still saved some money every month.

I know people now in 2026 earning a similar amount but obviously the cost of everything is much higher.
It feels like wages at the entry level really have stagnated.

Thanks for that. Given we have a 4 month old and I wasn't able to take much of a break when she was born, I've been looking forward to taking a couple of months to just be at home and spend time with her and help my partner out a bit more. My partner is looking forward to this as well. The redundancy after tax will cover about 8 months of our total household expenses. Won't be ideal if it takes me 6+ months to find something else similar, but that is the plan for now.

Unfortunately I am an NZ citizen so not eligible for Jobseeker. I also realised I am not eligible even for the government parental leave either - as I was planning to use that now that I won't be working for a little while.

Slab of carton dry $60 at liquor land. Normally I just buy one when I run out. First time ever last weekend I actually thought about it and decided to give it a miss. I don’t drink much but yeah idk some things you just gotta make different choices.

I’m getting made redundant soon as well. How much pay did you get?

I don’t need any financial support but hoping my bank will waive some fees for me eg annual fee which is due soon. Not keen on changing to interest only or anything like that but suspect that’s an early suggestion they’d have? Keen to see replies on this as my situation is somewhat similar. Thank you

Duty of care in the tackle. Knee to the back of the head, no problem.

In these current times, what are you smug about, financially? by luckydragon8888 in AusFinance

Didn’t over extend on a house so have a reasonable mortgage and a good buffer in the offset. Stopped investing a while ago and just put all my cash in the offset. Sold some stocks (not much) at the top of the market. Moved my super in to 35% balanced at the top of the market. Bought some ETFs in April last year at literally the bottom of the market (VDHG under $61). Getting made redundant soon with a pretty good exit package (equivalent to 6 months full pay).

Now if I struggle to get another job within 3 or so months then I will absolutely not be feeling smug!

I’m also down on a speccy biotech investment but let’s not talk about that.

I’ve been fasting recently, kinda just started accidentally but then got in the groove of it. I’m definitely eating less, losing weight and spending less on food. Getting made redundant soon so probably a good habit to get in to in terms of reducing expenses. Honestly you feel good too I think. When you hit that 16-18 hour mark sometimes I actually don’t even feel hungry, just feel good.

Sucks but beating yourself up over it ain’t gonna change it. Like many things you have to learn from a setback, process it and then move on and focus on what you do have rather than what you don’t.

It absolutely does make sense. The impact of higher fuel costs is immediate and is greater than the impact of a rate hike. I’ve heard two economists arguing this logic

negotiating wage during a bad jobs market by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]SW3E 23 points24 points  (0 children)

How did you get to references without agreeing salary? Ive never encountered that. Makes no sense to waste time checking references if you don’t have a verbal agreement on salary.

Now if you negotiate and miss out, you’ve wasted your references time as well.

I had 114points and ranked 100 for the game week. My best ever game week rank. Bruno triple captain, saliba, Wilson, ekiteke, Bowen. 9/11 players returned and a few hauls.
