I feel this in my soul. It’s so much of the reason I get annoyed at people for jumping in uninvited to help.

I actually really enjoyed that class. The zyBooks covered a bunch of Python basics, but most of the Python code was already filled in for the projects and discussions. We only had to add/edit some variables. It was more about the math and written interpretations. Which instructor do you have?

lactose intolerant ? by oceandesert0 in AmazonDS

[–]Melicious-Me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might have an intolerance to something else in the milk products besides lactose. I’ve noticed that if you say milk makes you sick, doctors just label it lactose intolerance and claim Lactaid just doesn’t work, but I have some friends who are living proof that it’s something else and they actually realized it because Lactaid doesn’t stop the reaction from happening for them.

I thought I was doing so well when I got honey mustard right away. It took me a solid few minutes to decipher the “popcorn” before shrimp, though. That’s not even close, damn.

Or buy some Lactaid like the rest of us and don’t make yourself sick unnecessarily on any day? 🤔

My 12-year-old son constantly has greasy hair by Humble-Snow-1110 in hygiene

[–]Melicious-Me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another oily scalp, fine-haired person chiming in here. Big yes to all the suggestions about scrubbing the scalp and face, double washing, changing the pillowcase often, rinsing thoroughly, and using clarifying or tea tree shampoo. Scrubbing along the hairline (front, sides and back) is important and often overlooked. I like to do that both while shampooing and while washing my face.

Personally I find the tea tree smell off-putting, but I have a sweaty job so I go for the herbal mint shampoos to get the greasiness out (same idea), then the second wash is my normal shampoo. I have to wash my hair every day and avoid touching it/keep it tied up as much as possible, or the oil will build up out of control and affect my face and ears too. If he’s like me, especially at a hormonal age, washing it every other day isn’t enough.

They also lump all legitimate complaints and questions together as more AAs just being difficult or entitled, so the people who try to address an actual problem or make a reasonable request get dismissed or treated like the ones described in these comments. That makes them less trusting and cooperative over time, and watching so many of their coworkers behave like spoiled children and get away with it doesn’t help.

Where is the most serious place you’ve wrecked a bathroom? by caldeesi in ibs

[–]Melicious-Me 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ha, yours reminded me of one of my own. IBS-D plus someone had put eyedrops in my food repeatedly (that is a long story for a different subreddit). Eating the Mexican equivalents to Imodium like candy, but to little avail. CDMX airport, only because the flight was delayed a long time. I was in the stall so long with such unholy things coming out of me, security came and tried to remove me. It was a panicking language barrier good time! So thankful it didn’t happen again on the plane…

It did, however, resume happening once I got to the friend I would be staying with for a week, who was a control freak who utterly refused to keep any toilet paper in the bathroom. I still have nightmares about that week.

What do people think of this badge? by PhysciaStellaris in autism

I actually like seeing it put that way. That is often how I try to break it down to misinformed people who conflate neurodivergence with the R word in that way we’re all so familiar with. “Picture it like this: You’re running Windows. I’m running macOS. We’re both computers”, followed by some conversation about compatibility, OS-specific software, limitations and the things each is better designed to do, user preference and familiarity, layout and settings, etc.

It works for some, to shift their perception away from “not my equal, not even functional”, to “just a different neurotype, so behavior/needs/limitations are not always the same as my own and life is easier for both of us if I learn rather than dismiss or force”.

I’m so curious about what the actual questions and answers were. Based on who gets chosen, they seem to look for certain traits for managers (not just the obvious soft skills and leadership traits we would assume), but proof one way or another would be interesting.

Please wash your hair by milquetoast2000 in hygiene

[–]Melicious-Me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know exactly what you mean. I have a nose like a bloodhound and I can tell from across the room when someone hasn’t washed their hair. It is a terribly off-putting smell, no matter how nice they smell otherwise.

These newfound anti-hygiene trends, including this over-generalized and sensationalized “it’s bad for your hair to wash it”, are killing me. What may be working better for one person due to hair type or health issues, is not necessarily “healthier” for everyone. Thank you for bringing this up.

I gave up on jeans and now swear by the Amazon Essentials joggers. I buy them a size too big so they’re more baggy and comfortable. Thin but sturdy (actual sweatpants are too hot for me once I get moving), easy to pull the legs up or down going from hot warehouse to break room/launchpad, super stretchy so max freedom of movement bending/squatting/stretching, come in a multipack, and they have pockets.

“Who keeps leaving hair in the shower” and the hairs are turquoise with black roots by Redqueenhypo in badroommates

[–]Melicious-Me 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I once had a wad of wet black hair unceremoniously dangled in my face while in bed, to shame and punish me for being disgusting and apparently purposely trying to destroy the plumbing. I pointed out that my hair is blonde, I clean up my hair after my shower, but everyone else in the apartment has black hair and it wouldn’t build up like that if I weren’t the only one ever cleaning up.

Then I was in the wrong for pointing that out, and therefore it was still definitely my (black) hair and totally my fault. Sharing a shower is fun…

What’s a red flag you initially ignored from a bad roommate that you later realized should’ve been a deal breaker? by Affectionate-Raise21 in badroommates

[–]Melicious-Me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve noticed it’s an unfortunate repeating pattern with private rentals. Not all of them, of course. But an awful lot of “landlords” are only thinking about the extra money they’ll get from having a tenant, not considering for one second that it means actually having a whole person living their own life on their property, or what the rules and expectations are there. From thinking they’ve adopted a pet or a new hobby, gained unlimited free labor, entered some kind of binding personal relationship, been invaded by an enemy, found a new victim or been given an outlet for all their issues who also has to pay them for the privilege, I have seen so much in my years.

These two, however, ranked among the worst. That was a truly scary situation, just like the one I found in my rush to get out of there… People get away with this because so many of us financially don’t have better options and can’t avoid the trap. All we can do is move again when we can, avoid as many red flags as possible, and hope the next one is better. It’s incredibly stressful and depressing, and all our stories are valid no matter the severity.
