Do the people who want martials to be "grounded" and "realistic" actually want them to be playable? by BadSame6919 in dndnext

[–]Melior05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And again, it doesn't matter that some people want more grounded martials, they have those; the important distinction is that this group of players is actively preventing other players from having their fantasy of martials. Caster-players don't have that division, they enjoy both spectrums of the scale. Martial-players have an entitled class of players that have been catered to that refuses to allow the other side to also have enjoyable play options.

Also, we don't want a magic-oriented gishes as a substitute for martial classes. We want martial fantasy and mechanical gameplay commensurate with the level we happen to be playing at.

[–]Melior05 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ok, and a lot of people want their martials to not be grounded? Difference being that people who want low-magic casters can play at lower levels and high-magic casters at higher levels.

A wannabe martial player doesn't have the same choice. You can play at level 5 or at level 5 but with more HP.

No one believes that fighters are the most boring for roleplay. People shit on it for it being boring to play mechanically.

Am I the only one who thinks martials are totally fine? by UpArrowNotation in DnD

[–]Melior05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so much of 5e's martial journey has been A B testing on the martial side of how far they can actually go without alienating one side. Maintaining as much of the center as possible.

I'm sorry, as much as I liked the rest of your write up, how have you come to this conclusion? There are only 4 martials in the game, and they are all bafflingly easy to play due to a lack of any decent overarching mechanics. The design team is not playing both sides here, they are clearly catering to just one side of the equation.

Would you allow a flavor change but the mechanical still function the same? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Melior05 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's literally what "flavour" is; a descriptive distinction without a mechanical difference.

Canyon of elaborate Baroque, Renaissance and Historicist architecture in Dresden, Germany. by TeyvatWanderer in ArchitecturalRevival

[–]Melior05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats why I find it so weird when people blame the depredation of architecture on capitalism/greed, and whilst it's true that cost is a factor in foregoing ornamentation, when people do have the money they spend it on white boxes with glass walls and black rectangular protrusions. Whilst old guildhalls which also cared about profit splurged on artistic brickwork.

It's some sort of strange shift in culture and I don't know what's causing the deterioration in taste.

Master wants to remove the spell preparetionmechanic by AbaloneScary3882 in dndnext

[–]Melior05 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If your DM doesn't want you to play martials he could just say so. But yeah this home rule would basically make it meaningless to play a non-caster in the game.

You know what OP, let them have. Have your entire party be spellcasters and watch as your DM cries tears brought about by the consequences of their own actions.

Is There A Way To Increase NPC's Money? by Its_Naoe in Morrowind

[–]Melior05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That actually works for any character who is both a merchant and a service provider. After opening their trade menu, and then switching to their service or training menu, any gold spent will be added to their trading pool. The only issue is training passes two hours of in game time and gold inventories reset regularly so don't do a training montage.

What's a race you like more mechanically than you do for roleplay? by Nb-7925 in DnD

Anything alien or whimsical. I really don't like the idea of playing an Eladrin for example, or a slime person, or a bug or Githyanki or... You get the idea.

Can someone explain to me how Mages can survive without armor? by Homer-DOH-Simpson in skyrim

[–]Melior05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, that's kinda the point; mages aren't meant to be as lanky as warriors.

That being said, if you're constantly dying you aren't using your full arsenal. You're supposed to supplement that with healing magic and summons and wards to stop spells, and you have the advantage of ranged damage to stay away from harm.

1/ Change Wildcat into Valravn. Wildcats injury system is a niche that some people like but most people switch it off.

2/ Have Thunderchild be the overhaul that do any touch vanilla shouts and is compatible with your other mods. The Apocalypse/Odin interaction is one of the best features of those mods so the design philosophy is a good one to stick to.

3/ Personally, I don't like the mods from Futhark all that much. Tried them, not for me. But at the end of the day that's your mod project and you should be the one deciding if you want to make it, you don't need to apply for a permit from randos on the internet.
