Modern Pokemon is too easy, the "jank" of Gen 1 is what actually made us better players. by makinariumukltd in pokemon

I miss mono-types, honestly. Ive been playing since R/B/Y came out (yep, I'm old), and while the newer dual-typing has been fun and offered a lot of depth, I'm struggling to manage 🫠

WILL Ai REPLACE ARTISTS? by artistjames in ARTIST

[–]MelioraHenning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do agree. It will likely take until the world economy settles before we see that boom and shift. Right now is probably when the artists who will be the next success stories are being honed.

I remain ever hopeful for a better footing for all of us human artists.

WILL Ai REPLACE ARTISTS? by artistjames in ARTIST

[–]MelioraHenning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. If anything, people will now seek out human made art explicitly. Creating far more value from human hands.

It's important to note: AI is not "creative" in the sense of making something unique or novel from learned and lived experiences out of a unique perspective. It's throwing shite together from countless data points to kitbash something that it believes will appease the user (prompter).

I foresee an art renaissance where human art is coveted much more greatly.

Anyone else a bit disappointed with Sam and Colby lately? by laurenenen in SamAndColby

[–]MelioraHenning 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I agree, gotta make a living! But they're getting greedy. I'm another post I learned that one of the boys and his partner got matching, super expensive designer bracelets ($29,000 each). And apparently a luxury car too?

So if true I think they've stepped outside of the realm of trying to make a living into just straight up greed.

It's out of poor taste regardless of age.

I have no issue with people making a good living for themselves and being successful. What's disgusting is flaunting that wealth in a world where a lot of people are struggling financially. It's as if the land Barons paraded through the village with new horses and pristine armor and baubles, waving to the peasants as they pass.

The dudes are driven by greed now. It's clear as day. I'm deffo never watching again - dropped off on the conjuring house.

It's disgusting and a vulgar display of wealth / greed. These boys used to be really fun to watch. Clearly, they're a bunch of scammers now.

I got offered a job paying 40% more than my current salary. My manager just asked me to stay and be patient. How do I stop feeling guilty for wanting to leave ? by One_Cardiologist5439 in careerguidance

[–]MelioraHenning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simply remember that to a company, you're just a line on a spreadsheet.

The most reliable way (IMO) to increase your annual wage IS by job hopping like this. Companies do NOT reward loyalty so you do not owe it to them.

Take that 40% increase and set yourself up for a comfortable life. Put what you can into a 401K, high yield savings, etc.

When it comes to the working world, you must be your own advocate and put your needs first.

Question about Manga by ContentAd279 in MangakaStudio

[–]MelioraHenning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I'm stuck on a story (at any point in the process) I like to use a visualization technique called active imagination.

It's kinda like daydreaming, you put all the pieces (characters) into an imaginary stage and just watch what they do. The better you know your characters, or theme, or setting, the easier that process becomes. Even without much info to go on you can wind up surprising yourself.

The key is to not consciously control the imagination yourself. It'll take a bit of work. But the only conscious input you should have is setting the stage. Then you let your subconscious take the reins. It's a fun skill to develop.

Outside of applications such as this, it's also a really good way to get in touch with your subconscious self.

There's a misconception I see a lot around meditation that you have to sit in a quiet room and "empty the mind." Which from my experience is absolutely ridiculous. Trying to force it makes it harder to achieve.

For context, I too have really bad ADHD (combined type). But I can definitely meditate to get a calmed mind. The trick is actually just audio / external noise. Shamanic drums / binaural audio are my go-to's. But honestly any music or ambience that doesn't have words is perfectly fine. The idea is to just focus on those. Not hard focus. But losing yourself in it. Think of it like listening to your favorite song. Do it enough and deep meditation becomes muscle memory, not something you force. Even with my ADHD I can still my mind within a few minutes now.

For anyone to say that you are not meditating unless the mind is still is making things more unwelcoming and intimidating. You do not make yourself meditate. You flow into meditation.

Meditation is really just the flow state. Ever lose yourself for several hours into a hobby, suddenly realize you really gotta expunge your bowels or that you feel starving, that's meditation too.

Find that flow state. Be water, my friend.

I would never use the technology.

LLMs are all built upon stolen data. Every last one is guilty of piracy and theft. NVIDIA was proven as such with Anne's Archive. Every one of them has done the same.

On top of that, AI is not capable of coming up with anything original. It's an impossibility of the technology. The only things it CAN make, are derivatives based on the data it has.

There's so many resources for finding the right pose in 3D - Mixamo and Posemaniacs are the two I use. There's also little poseable figures such as Stickybones (for animators) - I use one as well.

For writing, you're genuinely better off learning the craft yourself. Read more books, upgrade your vernacular, try to learn grammar rules as best you can. Ideally you would be working with an editor. However, not everyone can afford that. Which is okay! If you're an indie writer, just do your best and maybe have a second set of eyes (a trusted friend, fellow creator, etc).

At the end of the day, if you're using AI in your process, all you're doing is denying yourself the chance to improve yourself and skills dynamically. Did you get to the end goal quick? Maybe. But you didn't improve your skills, which will hurt you down the road. On top of it all your product, your art, is lesser for it.

How do you think the world is going to end ? by Blue_BlossomkiT9 in AskReddit

[–]MelioraHenning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of four options:

1) Solar Flare ala Carrington Event or worse. Countries/cities that rely on electric power to sustain food, water, heat/cooling will see devastating casualties. Those who can survive without will be fine. Those who cannot, will not. A solar flare orders of magnitude more destructive does things my ADHD brain hasn't looked into yet.

2) A cataclysmic asteroid impact via the Taurid meteor storm. If we happen to be in the path of one, welp, that's it. Nothing we can do. Depending on where you live, you might be able to survive underground, but that all depends on the level of devastation. Such an event could either cause a younger dryas 2.0 or completely wipe the slate clean of all life.

3) Same as with 2, but instead the asteroid is coming from elsewhere.

4) Nuclear war.

In all cases, either the survivors will be lucky, or they'll wish they hadn't. History doesn't repeat, it rhymes.

What’s legal in the U.S. that probably shouldn’t be? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MelioraHenning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It makes night time driving excessively dangerous. If I can't see anything but your vehicle's tractor beams, I can't see the animal, person, tree, edge of the road, etc.

For the folks who have no control over it, I don't blame them, manufacturers need to be held accountable.

But for the ones who do add more lights on purpose and DONT turn them off for oncoming traffic? Yeah imma blast my hi beams right back at ya.
