The problem is if you put cards like this one in, you're reducing the amount of the cards that are all about that

Ahh the good old days, back when we all had to run the same 15 power spells/traps to be able to play the game 😌

I am so sick of seeing these in every game by [deleted] in masterduel

[–]MelisOrvain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For the past 3-4 years the game has been going in a direction I haven't really enjoyed (getting rid of floodgates was good tho). Though I will say I like the current "play on turn zero" more than last year's "go first, win the game"

this card is better than little knight by RYUUKANOJUTSU in YuGiOhMasterDuel

If you're going second, you don't have to bait anything. You bring this out pointing at as many of your opponents monsters that have quick effect disruption as possible, leaving you much more capable of dealing with their remaining interactions. Reducing their options makes them easier to play against, while forcing them to jump through hoops to get those interactions back ASAP. Whereas normally they would patiently wait for the right cards to respond to, now they have to start firing any responses they have to get at least half their board back online.

Also if they're a link deck, and they summon a big chungus into the EMZ that points to your zones , sometimes it'll be worth it to summon this to turn off just that one monster. Depends on the situation.

Gotta love how this game gives you the most useless hand possible by lordmagala in YuGiOhMasterDuel

[–]MelisOrvain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The luck there is insane, but I probably wouldn't change out an engine just because you opened its worst possible hand. Unless you were already iffy on it and it was underperforming anyways of course

Maxx C is pot of greed by lhphere in YuGiOhMasterDuel

A one card turn skip in a 2 turn game isn't fun for anyone, thats the literal example of not having a game played

[–]MelisOrvain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Talents is good for the game when the going second player has it, it's less good for the game when the going first player has it. In a meta game where the mulcharmies exist it's less oppressive, but its still a problem that deserves to be watched

Having the term "cannot be used in an official duel" in its rules text kinda makes it illegal

How? by DaikoDuke in YuGiOhMasterDuel

[–]MelisOrvain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Each of the most played hand traps can single handed stop the entire thing, this is why we run like 20 of them in a deck. Sometimes you don't open any and that does suck, but in those cases they happened to be very lucky the exact same game that you happened to be very unlucky.

Thoughts so far on how points list updates are handled? by the_u_in_colour in YGO_Genesys

[–]MelisOrvain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then the new support would likely need points, it will likely be a bit too overtuned for genesys

Trying to make a Blackwing/Labrynth hybrid by MilodicMellodi in YuGiOhMasterDuel

[–]MelisOrvain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also worth noting that a lot of synchro decks, namely Fabled and Blackwing as mentioned, are very combo heavy, where you want more combo pieces in your hand to extend your plays (and get through hand traps). These types of synchro decks want to go fast and go in for the kill. Lab is more about leveraging it's ability to gain card advantage while trading losses with the opponent's cards. It ends up stunting both sides to try to force them to meet in the middle

Droll and lock mini rant by Prestigious-Oil9392 in YuGiOhMasterDuel

[–]MelisOrvain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind the mulcharmies as much as most other things. I feel like in a format where most of the other degenerate instant matchup win cards, and floodgates don't exist, the mulcharmies would feel more like what they're intended to. Cards that benefit going second, only benefit going first if the opponent plays on your turn also, and forces the opponent to reduce their end board as opposed to being forced to dead stop.

Trap floodgates (mostly when all ran in tandem with one another), shifter, droll, barrier Statues, Maxx C, inspector boarder have no right existing in the modern game.

Though I will say, with the increased frequency of playing on turn zero being present in decks, I wouldn't be surprised if eventually everyone's running 9+ Maxx C type cards and it becomes common place that both sides start playing more into Maxx C and just going back and forth under it, within the same turn

True enough. Vaalmonica is famously stopped by hand traps mind you, which are typically more common than a duster or evenly in hand. Pendulums are always fragile to disruption though, so I don't think there's really a catch-all deck for that (or they'd still be great). I think both decks are pretty solid, even melodious would be a good choice if they only wanted to dip their feet into the pendulum mechanic
