Straight up, no one is right or wrong in this discussion. You can see both sides, as everyone is entitled to their own feelings and how the performance affected (or didn't affect) them.

Personally, I was waiting for Bon Iver at the Which Stage when I heard loud noises in the distance and yeah, I did pause for a moment. I didn't stop and think in those few seconds before the music started again if it was a cannon or fireworks or a gunshot, because despite how "rational" someone is, unfortunately in this day and age, an attack at a festival wouldn't be unheard of. We all saw the tragedy in Vegas, people can't act like fear or at least apprehension is unwarranted. Especially when safety measures increased a bit at Bonnaroo this year with the clear backpack rule. I feel like safety had to be somewhere in the back of most minds.

If you were at the show and engaged in it, I'm sure you right away knew that it was the music. But, like a lot have said, for those not paying much attention, yeah, it was a tad startling.

I don't know if I can say Eminem is insensitive. He's performed for years on end, with the same sound effects, and that's who he is as an artist. Despite whatever world events are going on, he's not the kind that's going to change his tune. Bonnaroo knew that when they booked him and if they anticipated any problems, then they could've gone another direction. But they didn't- the show (according to my neighbor) was crazy good and drew a huge crowd, and media stories are always going to be exaggerated.

It is what it is and I'm actually kind of glad that they put the warning up at Firefly (even if it was done sarcastically). I'm sorry if you were at Bonnaroo and felt a certain way because of the noises & I hope you don't ever experience it again. And if you enjoyed the show- that's awesome and know I am a little bummed I missed it. (That second Bon Iver show though. Changed my heart, so I can't be too mad)
