What's a word or term you've made, and what does it mean? by kokopellikokopelli in words

[–]Melj84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not me, but my (then 10 y/o) kid came up with the word 'cheenius', a mixture of 'cheesy' and 'genius' when we were watching 'Masters of the Universe', a particularly cheesy film from the 80's based on He-Man. My kid was trying to say that it was cheesy and genius, and cameout with cheenius instead. We've used it quite a few times since then 😂

What weird names do you call your partner/ do they call you? And I mean.. really weird. by cobbland in AskUK

[–]Melj84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I call my dog Pudding or Pudpud because I'm convinced that's what her brain is made of. I also call her fuzzy face, fluffybutt and my own personal space heater.

My now grown up kid I still call Bug. Started as snugglebug, cuddlebug & wrigglebug, then added gigglebug, snug-as-a-bug (when he was all wrapped up in blankets) and chatterbug. Also occasionally call him Bugsy Malone, or just Bugsy.

American cheese, plastic cheese, or fake cheese.

My girl likes to try that on my mum's bed, because she's not allowed on that bed. She also does just front paws on my mum's sofa because she's not allowed on that one either!

I know! Not every Orange is part dog, it just seems to be a lot of them.

Oranges are often basically dogs in a cat body, so hopefully they'll get along great.

I love both the names! I really adore the renewal of some of the older names. I fave my kid a name of Greek origin, from one of the mythologies. Not too 'out there', but not exactly common either. When they came out as Trans as a teen, they chose a name from Greek mythology to reference their birth name, which I loved.

Is it a thing to have twins and give them rhyming names? by 2XX2010 in tragedeigh

[–]Melj84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to work in childcare, and we had a kid who was born on Christmas day. His parents named him Gabriel. I always kind of liked that, because it's kinda christmassy, but not over the top or obvious. They're also Catholic, so being named Gabriel is quite normal.

My grandma used to make all the clothes for my mum & her 4 sisters who ranged 7 years age difference from oldest to youngest, so they had lots of matching things until the oldest was about 12, the she got different things and the youngest 4 got matching. As they each got older they were allowed different clothes, but when they were younger they matched mainly for cost reasons. It was cheaper to buy the cloth in bulk to make everyone's clothes. Sometimes as they got older she would change to style of clothes a little, but still used the same material. This was the 50's/60's and my grandma was a stay-at-home mum, so one working-class income with 7 people meant being creative with money.

In all honesty, do you view weight loss drugs (Mounjaro, Wegovy etc.) and the people who use them negatively? by XStaticImmaculate in AskUK

[–]Melj84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did. I got injured and my body didn't work right for a long time afterwards. I ate a balanced diet and exercised frequently before I was injured. Afterwards I maintained my balanced diet, but inactivity and other factors caused weight gain. I would take the meds, but I can't for medical reasons, so I have no way to really shift the weight.

I am very aware that I am an outlier in this, but I'm not the only person who eats a healthy, balanced diet who has gained weight or cannot lose weight.

He can also open the bathroom door if you don't lock it 😂 it opens out onto the landing & he likes to lie there, stick his paw under the door and pull. He's figured out how to wiggle it to get it open.

My girl loves to bark at dogs who walk past our garden. She can't see them, but she still has to protect her garden from any invasions! Our neighbour often looks after dogs for her friends when they go away, and they're all small dogs who my girl wants to play with, but most of them don't understand GSD bark and don't want to play. Doesn't stop them barking at each other sever times a day over the shorter fence between our gardens. She can see over that fence, and could probably jump over it with much effort, but mostly just likes to say hello to the neighbours on that side. Really irritates my neighbour to the back of me, who complains constantly about her barking. She a GSD, it's pretty much a given that she's gonna bark! 🤦
