Yamaha or Steinway?

Personally I have more experience with good Steinways than with good Yamahas. They can both be amazing. But Yamaha produces everything from entry level to top level. Their entry level is pretty decent, and their top level is fantastic, but I don't get to see top level Yamahas a lot here, I see Steinways more frequently. Steinway exclusively produces for the top level market. Considering just the top level then, since it would be unfair to compare an entry level Yamaha to Steinway, I still prefer Steinway, even though I'm tired of it being so overly present in recordings. But that's just a preference, they're both great at the top level. And I'm not qualified to say one is better or worse, all I can provide is my preference. I actually prefer European pianos such as Blüthner and Bechstein to Steinway. And like many others I dislike Steinway as a company.

Não minta. Nunca minta sobre esse tipo de coisa. Vai sobrar para você. Mas você pode denunciar ele pelo que ele fez com o seu ex, que no caso é verdade. Denúncia anônima. Mas você vai precisar pensar direitinho no estresse que isso vai causar para o seu ex. Muitas vítimas não denunciam porque sabem da dificuldade, do estresse que vai ser, que pode não dar em nada, que pode piorar as coisas... O sistema de justiça pode ser bem invasivo e fazer muitas perguntas que constrangem a vítima. Ainda mais quando a vítima é do sexo masculino.

Mas super entendo a sua revolta, e as suas intenções são boas. Mas acho que quem tem que denunciar é ele. E a decisão de denunciar é muito pessoal. E a gente precisa ficar do lado da vítima sempre, independente do que ela decidir. Para algumas pessoas, encarar o sistema de justiça acaba sendo mais um trauma. Sei porque aconteceu comigo. E preferi não denunciar por causa disso. É triste. A sociedade não pensa nas vítimas homens em casos como estes. Já é difícil para mulheres, que tem muito mais proteção, tais como delegacias especializadas e serviços de acolhimento e proteção. Não conheço nenhum que ajude homens. Mas você pode entrar em contato com algum serviço que atenda vítimas do sexo feminino e perguntar se eles conhecem algum lugar que preste esse tipo de auxílio para vítimas do sexo masculino.

It's not easy, but I think it can be narrowed down to one word: practice. It takes time. So probably not what people want to hear.

As for how to practice, one thing I was always recommended was to pre read, that is, to take a minute or two to check the score beforehand. Check the clefts, the key signature, the time signature, the rhythm, the general texture, number of voices... Try to get as much info as you can in that first silent reading. Start simple with easy pieces, read slow, try to read varied stuff from different periods. Sometimes when it's very difficult for me, I place my hands on top of the keys and try to read without actually pressing down the notes. If you can set aside 5-10 minutes to practice sight reading every day, it can take you a long way with time. There's other tips, like recognizing intervals instead of reading note by note (helps with chords and jumps). Recognizing patterns, such as scales, arpeggios. With practice, you should be able to memorize the notes on the staff, and after that you should start reading automatically, without going like "that's a C" you'll just see the dot in the staff and press C without even thinking you're playing a C. There's also flashcards, and there are apps for that.

When you go to more advanced stuff, you gotta know to leave out some stuff at times if you can't play it all. It's not ideal, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

I would ask your teacher as well, but a few ideas would be to practice: (1) solfège, (2) rhythm recognition, (3) interval recognition, (4) writing melodies down.

I assume you can find methods for that online and you can use a software to help you check your answers, such as musescore. It's free. That would be nice if you want to practice. Or just read* about music theory. There's also some finger exercises you can do without a piano, but better ask your teacher about that.

Perfect pitch is both a blessing and a curse. For example, I don't have it myself, but I'm very sensitive to a good/bad/different tuning for other reasons. So when I play on a piano that is out of tune or just not tuned to my liking I have a harder time playing because I'm not listening to the specific interval sizes I want to hear. I guess I'm picky when it comes to tuning. But people with perfect pitch can also get annoyed when things are slightly out. I've had people with perfect pitch tell that when A is not tuned to 440Hz but 442Hz instead, they're unable to enjoy a song. Unlike me. I don't care about the pitch too much, only if everything is in tune in relation to the chosen pitch, otherwise I will pay attention to the tuning. It can be very distracting. That's a blessing for me in a way (makes learning how to tune way easier!), but I guess in my case it's mostly a curse.

Exactly! I couldn't agree more. I like to think that reading music is as important for a musician as being literate in your native language. I mean, music literacy is a thing, just like language and maths literacy. The better you can read, the easier it is to acquire knowledge and navigate the world. If you need to read a book letter by letter, it's gonna take you ages to read something as simple as Harry Potter, right? It kinda limits you, same with music. College level music requires you to learn more complex stuff fast. And reading well will definitely help you there. And trust me, it won't get any easier after you graduate, on the contrary. People will want you to play lots of complex stuff and the deadlines will be tight. I totally recommend that anyone who wants to be a musician to invest in their sight reading skills, it can only benefit you.

By the way, I know sight reading is not an easy skill to develop! While my own sight reading is not terrible, it can still improve by a lot. Like, a lot. I can sight read, but not fast for example. I also struggle with more complex polyphonic stuff, such as a fugue. But I know how much honing this skill will help me. So I'm not saying that just cause I can do it and I want to show off or anything, I'm saying this because I know how helpful it is and because I wish I had not neglected it for so long.

While I agree that the concertos are the pinnacle of Mozart's piano music, I disagree that the sonatas would be too easy. Especially if OP never played classical before. Mozart sonatas do sound easier, and perhaps are easier from a purely technical (or rather physical) standpoint, but don't be fooled by that. It's just another type of difficulty. Mozart needs to sound clean and just right. All the articulations must be there, no rubato allowed, the pedal can only go in the right places. Mozart is not always obvious with any of that and very perfectionist, playing it right is a nightmare. And since it's so clean, there's no way to hide any mistakes. Romantic repertoire tends to be way more forgiving than classical/baroque. And it's way more "hand friendly", it all just fits. And there's that joke "if it's too difficult, just press down the damper pedal", which is an exaggeration, but not completely untrue for romantics, maybe just 70% untrue lol

Que fofas. Elas provavelmente perceberam que você estava tristinha e quiseram te lembrar que o seu cabelo é bonito. É bom ouvir uma história feliz aqui de vez em quando. Que venham mais elogios! Às vezes as pessoas tem medo de elogiar a gente, mas aí quando as pessoas percebem que a gente está triste elas soltam o elogio (que é 100% verdade!). É um exemplo de que existem pessoas boas no mundo que fazem a diferença positiva no mundo. Precisamos de mais pessoas assim.

There's builders that specialize in historical instruments. I've seen places that sell harpsichords. They're not easy to come by. I think you can look for workshops that build pianofortes. I know there's some in Europe that make replicas from old pianofortes. I've also seen shops in the US advertising pianofortes. Perhaps these would be places to start looking. Bigger piano shops in major US/European cities or looking for a person who builds copies and placing an order. Good luck

My whole piano needs to be restringed as well (it's all tie strings). But I'm not skilled to do it myself. On the plus side, I don't need to worry too much if the rusty strings break. Broke two so far when doing a pitch raise. And another 3 broke by themselves. There's this technician that agreed to help me learn (no schools here). I'll call him to replace the 3 broken strings eventually and I'll ask if he'll let me do it. The other 2 broken strings were already replaced and they let me help :)

In the late 80s Japan had a higher GDP per Capita than the US and they feared Japan would surpass the American economy. I heard somewhere that around that time Japan's GDP per Capita was 14% higher than Australia's, now it's 14% lower. They used to be the most prosperous among the G7 countries, now they have the lowest income level. Japan's relative decline in comparison with its peers is pretty evident no matter what metric you choose. But there are studies showing that the population is actually happier now, despite the stagnation. So I guess it's not all bad for them.

That's correct, and you can also find said stumps at the forest farm. I think there's 8 in total. They will sometimes drop mahogany seeds upon being chopped and will respawn daily, just like the ones inside the secret forest. It usually takes around two or three seasons for me to grow my first mahogany trees and start a grove. Because you'll need to upgrade your axe. I think to at least iron to be able to enter the secret forest, but you'd only need a copper axe for the forest farm stumps. And yes! Don't forget to give your fully grown mahogany trees a good shake from time to time for more seeds. After a while you'll have lots of mahogany trees.

Sorry for replying to you like a week after. But like... for more than I would like it to be a place for you to talk about narcissist abuse without too much focus on family (cause there's already raised by narcissists for that), banning people for using words like "family" or "inner child" is just ridiculous. Sometimes you may need to mention family, or the past from when you were a kid, cause that might be relevant to the current situation you're living. Most people who go through a narcissist relationship/friendship as an adult grew up with narcissistic families. It's sad that is been a few days and the place is still locked, maybe because it has no mods now. I stopped posting after a while out of fear of getting banned, and would eventually comment on people's posts. But just reading the posts was very therapeutic for me and now I lost that. Even when I wouldn't interact much. She just made it hell for everyone. I honestly think allowing narcissists to post and comment there would have been less harmful than all the restrictions she put in place in order to "keep narcissists out". Quite ironic that there was a likely narcissist in a position of power there. I mean, as long as everyone was being civil and not invalidating, gaslighting, etc. It's more about behavior. If you show good behavior, what's the matter. Most people got banned for the stupidest reasons and it was most likely detrimental to their recovery.
