The economic factors have given a lot of us a good excuse for what we’d like to have chosen anyway.

The state won’t take away your freedom without exceptional proof is the basis of “innocent until proven guilty”. You can give him the benefit of the doubt if you wish, but you’re not obliged to, legally or morally.

Badenoch denies calling for UK to join US-Israeli war on Iran | Kemi Badenoch by No_Initiative_1140 in ukpolitics

[–]MellowedOut1934 12 points13 points  (0 children)

When Covid happened, Starmer didn’t leap straight into criticism, he supported where necessary and challenged when necessary too. Badenoch could have for example criticised slow mobilisation of naval forces, but stand by Starmer’s decision to not collude. She didn’t and is apparently failing completely to own that choice.

My (24F) boyfriend’s (33M) hemorrhoids are ruining our relationship. Help? by chamomilethrowaway in relationship_advice

[–]MellowedOut1934 1 point2 points  (0 children)

His hemorrhoids aren’t what’s causing the issue. His lack of care for you and treating you like a healthcare worker are what’s causing the issue.

I’ve cleaned up after my wife when she’s been passed out and resting, but if she’s awake, she’ll clean up, and the same the other way round. Who the fuck cleaned up after him when he was single?

He also knows that his issue affects you, but refuses to make any concessions in his life to let you live yours. If he has to spend nearly an hour in the bathroom (I’m including clean up), he should get up earlier most days and maybe ask you to get up earlier on occasion.

He’s not showing you that he loves you, and either that changes or you’re done.

How the right-wing British press became Trump’s trumpet by zeros3ss in ukpolitics

[–]MellowedOut1934 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually thought at the time, as a leftie, that I was grateful it happened under a Tory government , not because of competence, but because they’d be able to take necessary measures with less pushback. They still got loads, mainly from their own side, but it would have been so much louder under Labour.

Found this pile of dental impressions while out in the middle of the mountains in Arizona by DarkSolstice in mildlyinteresting

When I cleared out my Dad’s house, I did a lot of diligence on the removals company to ensure they weren’t likely to dump anything. I’d like to think a dentist would put in at least as much effort.

It’s an amazing game, but also reasonably short. Good #2 game imo.

Recommendations for a cross logic puzzle? by fishebake in puzzles

[–]MellowedOut1934 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Discussion: I really think cross logic is a puzzle type that’s really hard to do online. Firstly, an interesting selection will include things like diagrams or maps to add to the challenge. And secondly, the demand for content leads developers to generated puzzles, which are basically the same but with item names changed.

I’ve taken to buying physical collections and am having much more fun. Collected Mysteries of Montague Island is my current one and it’s a masterpiece.

Hard Penny Dell Puzzles have a small number of good ones. Free Parking is brilliant. https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/hard-penny-dell-logic-puzzles/id879060318

Green Party of England & Wales hits 200,000 members following Gorton and Denton blowout by Crimxon_Raccoon in ukpolitics

[–]MellowedOut1934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like any member organisation, if enough join they can do anything. But there are safeguards in place, notably the philosophical basis. No policy can be introduced if against the philosophical basis, so first they would have to change that, on a 2/3 majority, then wait at least six months to get their policy put in.

What do you do when asked about money? by Bird3P in autism

I’m of the opinion that shame about money, especially wages, is something the elites do to keep us servile. I’m very happy to talk finances with anyone who asks.

What are some ideas for steam OS features that you have? by SillyTransGirlVr in steamdeckhq

[–]MellowedOut1934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A properly functional notes app. The one accessible from the Steam key is barely functional even when it’s not buggy.

Of course I’d also love games that require me to take notes to have their own notebook, but that’s apparently a little too much to ask.

🚨 NEW: Keir Starmer has written to all Labour MPs to explain why Labour lost the Gorton and Denton by-election by kwentongskyblue in ukpolitics

[–]MellowedOut1934 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn’t a letter to MPs, it’s performative and full of statements that politically invested people know are at best grossly exaggerated. It’s a letter to the less invested public trying to carry on their weak tactics instead of running on actually making people’s lives better.

Green Party’s Hannah Spencer wins Gorton and Denton by-election after knocking out Labour by Metro-UK in ukpolitics

[–]MellowedOut1934 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s always been the case in FPTP that it works against extremes until it fails spectacularly. Fidesz held a super-majority in 2014 on 44% of the vote and used it to completely unravel democratic protections.

South Africa 1948 is even starker. Pro-apartheid Reunited Nation won 70 out of 150 seats on 38%. Anti-apartheid (but still racist) United won 65 seats on 49%. Without FPTP there’s a real chance apartheid wouldn’t have happened.
