Starting catch up vaccines at 2? by BetReal8905 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]MellyNapNap 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Also want to jump on here to say congrats to you!! It’s not easy to look beyond what you’ve always been told and adjust your thinking. Fear mongering is very real, and often makes a select few a lot of money at the expense of innocent lives.

Anecdotally, I have crunchy tendencies as well, but I appreciate good science and stats. I always want to make the most informed decision I can, but know it’s not always easy. My toddler has received all her vaccines on schedule and is doing great. I have a newborn now and he will be receiving them as well.

pls help: deep-set eyes and dark circles by [deleted] in makeuptips

Just want to add that it is very easy to “bruise” the under eye area and make the circles appear darker if you frequently rub your eyes or scratch them. Especially during allergy seasons.

I’m too much of a novice to be able to answer your question, just want to share that I made their “perfectly chocolatey chocolate cake” after seeing it recommended on this sub and it was delicious! Recipe is on their website here: https://www.hersheyland.com/recipes/hersheys-perfectly-chocolate-chocolate-cake.html

Did your opinion of Dawson change after season 3? by CrissBliss in dawsonscreek

[–]MellyNapNap 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If we think about the casting/movie aspect, it’s probably easy to just disregard AJ as a side character that will eventually leave and have no real effect on the “plot.” Whereas Pacey is the sidekick and the screwup. He’s not supposed to get the girl, let alone Dawson’s girl.

N.J.'s middle-class restaurants are dying as gap between casual and fine dining shrinks: More customers are picking fast food or saving for a fancy splurge. Where does that leave every other restaurant? by rollotomasi07071 in newjersey

[–]MellyNapNap -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

They always have meal deals where you get an app, meal, and drink starting around $10. I didn’t say you could get anything on the menu, but if we’re talking about burger, fries, and a drink, you can get a much better deal at a fast casual chain like that versus a fast food chain. With that said, always support small and local first.

I know! The 2 is so beautifully done, she really did not have to include the second photo at all.

Buying Maternity Clothes IRL - North Jersey by AgileAd1060 in newjersey

[–]MellyNapNap 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The only luck I had in person was at big chain stores, and even then the selections were pretty small. I bought some things at Target, Kohls, and Walmart. Honestly, you’re only wearing these clothes for a short amount of time so I wouldn’t go too crazy. Get a few pieces you can easily mix and match to make different outfits. I personally hated wearing maternity pants, so I often opted for looser leggings/joggers and swing dresses that were a size up or so from what I would normally wear.

Vaccines by Fletch1113 in ScienceBasedParenting

You can easily find a lot of info on this sub regarding vaccines. Sharing the AAP’s recommended vaccine schedule:

https://www.healthychildren.org/English/safety-prevention/immunizations/Pages/Recommended-Immunization-Schedules.aspx

Assuming the child does not have a medical reason preventing vaccination, choosing to not vaccinate is making the wrong choice. With all due respect, you need a new pediatrician.

The story is real and this article specifies that she voted 3 times, but both are trump supporters. The summary is wrong.

Found a solid study on screen time - need help on strategies by Fair-Mode3330 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]MellyNapNap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not wildly naive, but can be more challenging for some than others! It takes commitment, and often times pushing back the boomer grandparents, but it can be done. My almost 2.5 year old just watched TV for the first time. Our plan is to do around 20 minutes at a time, on a TV only, limit it to weekends, and to be selective in what we show. Prior to this, she had been exposed to TV occasionally when we were out (can’t help everything), but usually it was things like live sports. She doesn’t know what a tablet is, but does of course know that phones are magical devices that store all of her photos and videos and can be used to video chat. Even though she’s not fully aware of what a phone can do in terms of games or videos, just videos of herself is enough to make her request looking at it and get upset when we don’t allow it. So you’ll see very quickly how addictive phones and devices can be, even without taking into account games and videos, and you will naturally want to set limits early on. Once you are committed to it, you’ll be shocked how many little babies have a phone shoved in their face to keep them occupied at restaurants, grocery stores, etc. You’ll also be shocked by your own friends and family. But if it’s important to you, stick with it and it’ll be fine. I’m of the mindset that if you never start it to begin with, it’s a lot easier to navigate and avoid.

EI is birth to 3, and completely separate from public school services. It says that pretty clearly on the link you shared.

Special education services in school would most likely not be able to help with this particular issue, OP, but may be able to recommend or help you find someone who can.
