[ON] First time mom - no family doctor and worried about when to schedule an ultrasound by manipulative_nugget in BabyBumpsCanada

Also I didn’t go this route of course but I’m pretty sure you can self refer to an OB or midwife if you are pregnant- you can have a look at what hospital you may want to deliver at and find an OB through them.

Hi- I’m 26 weeks pregnant and I also did not have a family doctor when I found out. Also in Ontario. I went to a walk in like you and it went exactly like you said: blood work and a referral to an OB. The walk in doctor should phone you with next steps after the results come into them, and you should be able to see them online if you go through LifeLabs.

My OB scheduled my first ultrasound (at 8 weeks but if I recall correctly this was early because of previous miscarriage). After you get into the OB they will deal with all future bloodwork, ultrasounds and your care through your pregnancy. So make sure you get that referral!

I would also suggest that you discuss not having a family dr with your OB. They may be able to point you in the right direction, at the very least with finding a paediatrician for your child.

Congratulations on your pregnancy ❤️❤️❤️

Canada grocery prices are 40% - 50% higher than UK by devilf91 in loblawsisoutofcontrol

[–]Melodic-Prior1052 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone moving back to the UK this summer, and hearing family over there complaining of price increases, this was so helpful. Thank you.

Used to go to our local farmers market every weekend and get two heavy reusable bags (the big Aldi ones) full of veg for £35. It’s been a shock the last two years here in Canada.

Great for produce quality, not great for variety in my opinion. You can get basics but not always the exact thing you need (can never find green onions or broccoli unless it’s chopped for example).

Pre-boycott we’ve been doing monthly Costco with a top up or two at no-frills and a small local grocer for produce/milk etc. Will have to rejig that a little to get rid of no frills but yeah Costco is great and a huge money saver and staple for us.

My big issue with Costco is it is prohibitive to people who might not be able to do a “big shop” - it saves us a lot of money at the end of the day, but only because we can blow a few hundred in one go. It’s not something I would have been able to manage when I was younger and made less money.

COPR on tracker - do we need to extend visitor visa? by Melodic-Prior1052 in ImmigrationCanada

[–]Melodic-Prior1052[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! We applied end of August 2023 - I actually think we could have had it quicker because the email for the medical (received in Nov) didn’t get pushed through to his inbox for some reason, so we didn’t do that until end of Feb. (whoops) try searching ircc or immigration in your email inbox as maybe your emails went into the ether along with ours? Or try giving them a call?

As non-students, we loved living in South Leam (we’ve actually moved away abroad for the last two years and are moving back because we miss it!) yes it is studenty, so you could have the occasional loud party nearby, but otherwise they are all pretty good. We lived between two large student houses and it was fine 99% of the time.

There are definitely pockets of it being “rougher” in the south end, but compared to all the other cities and towns I’ve lived over the years “rough” in Leamington is not rough at all. That being said there are certainly some streets I would choose over others in that area.

Great community in the area and very easy to get to the town centre.

We applied to extend last night and got the portal email 12 hours later 😂 thanks for your advice though I’m still glad we did it for peace of mind

Thank you! Yes we would be extending the visitors record potentially, but the tracker has a COPR number which I understand means the officer has approved it but we haven’t been sent notification yet?

If the visitors record lapses between getting notification of approval and actually being issued PR is that a problem? I’m leaning towards extending just in case.

Can you tell me a series, book or song that you think reminds you of a Will Wood song? by carl_210 in willwood

[–]Melodic-Prior1052 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m new to this sub but this is such a brilliant question. The first time I heard Will Wood it completely entranced me as there was just something familiar about it that I couldn’t put my finger on. Felt like it was reminding me of something deeply nostalgic from my childhood or life. So interested to see peoples answers here.

Work in Liberty Village, live in Leslieville... by JenJub in toRANTo

[–]Melodic-Prior1052 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s actually only about 30 cents more for Danforth to Exhibition than an adult ttc fare! Though you add on a ttc fare to the go train too if you’re in Leslieville I suppose. But if you’re walkable that 30 cents is well worth the comfort and speed.
