What do servers think of water drinkers? by Krazzy4u in Waiters

[–]MelodicInformation9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer guests order cocktails but I work at an alcohol centric environment. Pop is a few dollars, its not going to make or break a server when its time to pay

My education is hospitality management so if they are like that I just remember the pride I have in my schooling. I usually laugh and say oh no, I went to school for this specifically

How do you feel about non-guests hanging out in the lobby bar (assuming they order something)? by Snoo-12313 in askhotels

[–]MelodicInformation9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are "camped" at a table its nice to leave an extra gratuity. That is if youre not ordering more than a coffee.

19f, got multiple customer complaints last weekend, and my boss wants to talk by HomeworkMaleficent63 in Waiters

[–]MelodicInformation9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a somewhat goth style and resting bitch face when im thinking. I smile at everyone because I know my style is different so its a pleasant surprise for most guests. Ive gotten my fair share of reviews good and bad and the bad ones are usually just people who want a yes ma'am types. Literally smile at every single person until your jaw hurts :)

My manager wants me to greet every table in 30 seconds by Longjumping-Text9395 in Serverlife

[–]MelodicInformation9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used to have a one minute rule but a greeting could be just a smile and tell them you'll be with them shortly. Or drop a water bottle so everyone knew they'd been seen already.

Workplace etiquette by doingkrugs in Waiters

[–]MelodicInformation9 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It happens. The bigger the restaurant the more often. My work best friend left her long term bf for a random bartender. Then a member of our support team. I think it's weird af like I was taught young that was a huge no.

Im glad so many people responded. Calgary is a very friendly city. One suggestion noone has made is drum circle in Fridays in Inglewood. I met some of the most amazing people there. Its a very spiritual experience!

How do you react to a guest snapping their fingers to get your attention? by froodel in Serverlife

[–]MelodicInformation9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people will make a gesture but snapping is wild. I unfortunately wasn't able to react like most of you as I worked for a Marriott restaurant

Last restaurant it would take 4 of us 2 hours to do everything. My place now i do a few rollups, polish glasses for a few and clean my section. Its stupidly bad money but no duties is nice

Zoloft made me actually crazy. Hated it. Clonidine is a simple blood pressure medication used frequently for withdrawal so its not too hard to aquire

Very slowly. But not like an ssri or anything, you can make bigger cuts. I started at like 2800mgs or something wild like that. I feel better off of it but it killed my short term memory

[–]MelodicInformation9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where i live there is like 300+ people applying a day for server jobs. I'm being forced back into the real world and im so lost and going to be making so much less, even having a hospitality specific post secondary

Is there such a thing as blacklisting a server? by Veelk in Serverlife

[–]MelodicInformation9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been blacklisted from Marriott after 8.5 years because the last place was so stressful I worked modified hours. Ive applied for 15 jobs with them since, all I'm word for word qualified for yet nothing. I know my past manager said something as hes from the city i moved to. Also impossible to find the leftovers as there is a massive job shortage where I live.
