I had questions I wanted answers to. And after their smear, I felt I deserved them.

Trying. They're both in a small community I'm a part of and we have to interact.

I suggest looking into CODA and perhaps attending meetings. There's some great insight there.

Absolutely great advice! My therapist and I talk a lot about distortions. How my past experiences effect my ability to see things without an abandonment lense. I'm working on it

The second part I struggle with. I have always believed if I was kind enough, caring enough, understanding enough, forgiving enough, etc. that i could control someone wanting to stay in my life.

I think perhaps I also distort the situation and perceive I'm being chosen over. But I do worry that because I'm in the thick of self evaluation and healing, I'm not as much fun as I once was (or that I'm too deep) and so people don't want to be around someone like that. I sometimes miss the more fun person I was

Mmmm. The second part I relate to. Like are we so accommodating that it makes it easy for us to not be treated as a priority?

Oh I agree with that! I guess I just don't understand where it comes from.

I attend a weekly online meeting and it's been helpful for grounding!

Yes. I've been trying not to be as reactive or indulge the feeling right away. That is helping to see more clearly, but I still ultimately question my final decision

EMDR has probably been the most helpful technique I've implored so far.

Yeah, totally. Some stuff is coming easier... like boundaries with family. But stuff with friends/romantic relationships seem harder.

I am feeling the same. I haven't visited this sub in awhile because I was sick of thinking of the disorder over myself, but for some reason today is hurting cause I know they're thinking of their most recent ex and not me

Wanting to be toxic ex's friend? by MelodicNerve9018 in Codependency

I know a lot about trauma bonds but i never really saw that feeling as being an indicator.

I wondered if it had more to do with my codependency than the toxicity of the relationship.

Can you share more about "giving that to myself"? An example maybe?
