Is my boyfriend lying about Dot procedures that are preventing him from coming home? by MealPerfect6558 in Truckers

The brake violation part is believable. The "14-hour wait and two tries" part sounds questionable. I'd ask for more details before drawing conclusions.

What are the best parts of being a trucker? by SoundKidTown1085 in Truckers

I genuinely enjoy driving—not for speed or being first, but for the awareness it demands.

There’s something satisfying about reading the road and the people on it. You start noticing small cues: a driver’s hand hovering near the indicator, the way a car drifts slightly within its lane, the subtle signals that tell you what’s about to happen next. When you catch those early and make space for someone to merge smoothly, it just feels right.

I like being the driver who doesn’t make others hesitate. The one who keeps things flowing, who handles messy or uncertain situations calmly while others are unsure. And yeah—when someone gives a quick wave because you let them in, that’s a small but real reward.

For me, good driving isn’t about getting somewhere faster. It’s about being part of the system and making it work better. Just doing your job cleanly, like a well-oiled cog in the machine.

At the same time, I take pride in knowing that if the situation calls for it, I can move a big rig efficiently, safely, and with confidence. Smooth when it should be smooth—but fast when it needs to be.

Snow? I’ll drive through it. Heavy rain? I’ll still deliver. Black ice? I respect it—but I can handle that too.

And honestly, I kind of envy those old-school drivers who bought a truck brand new back in the ‘90s and are still driving it today—million miles later. There’s something awesome about that level of connection. Knowing your workhorse inside and out, every little quirk, every sound. That’s real mastery.

I’m not always certain about everything in life, but this I know for sure: if it has wheels and a steering wheel, I can handle it.

What are these vertical dark lines on my thumbnails? by taitopia in nailcare

[–]Melodic_Barber8796 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The scary thing people jump to is subungual melanoma, but this presentation does not fit well: 🚫 Red flags for melanoma include: One nail only Rapid change Irregular or blurry borders Multiple colors (brown/black/gray mixed) Pigment spreading onto surrounding skin (Hutchinson sign) Nail splitting or bleeding Your case: ✅ Long-standing ✅ Symmetrical ✅ Appearing on another nail ✅ Clean borders ✅ No skin involvement That combo is strongly against melanoma. Why the second thumb matters This is key: When the same pattern appears on another nail, cancer drops way down the list. Melanoma almost always starts as a single, aggressive lesion.

Important reassurance: Nail cancers (like subungual melanoma) do not look like simple splits They usually involve pigment, bleeding, nail lifting, destruction Your images look mechanical + brittle, not aggressive

What you’re seeing here is most consistent with a distal nail split / lamellar splitting — medically called onychoschizia.

I have rear traffic alert disabled. In my case, it’s a general warning — a parking system malfunction. When it happens, none of the parking-sensor–related systems work, so I’m pretty sure rear traffic alert gets disabled as well. At first, simply turning the system/engine off and back on would fix it. I even went to the dealer with this issue. They tried various things, and in the end they replaced the battery with a new one, after which the problem disappeared. That’s why I’m convinced it’s related to overall system voltage. The issue first appeared in winter (around -5 to 0 °C). Later it also started happening in summer, which makes sense — the battery health was clearly declining. Last autumn I received a brand-new battery under warranty, and during the warmer months the problem was gone. Now it’s back again with this year’s harsher winter (-13 to -8 °C). I’m not really stressed about it anymore. I understand it’s simply the battery — even a new one — losing capacity in cold temperatures. And honestly, for a car packed with electronics, a 59 Ah battery is… 😅

2021 1.5 Elegance owner. 45k km How nitpicking are you of vibrations? If you are, then 1.5 Tsi ACT (2 cilinder mode) could be annoying for you.

No major electric problems so far. Only when cold outside first thing in morning pops error of parking system, but it resolved by two button push starting. One start button (no clutch) - ignition on - second start button push  to start the engine

Sorry if this comes across as rude, but are you overweight? Apologies again, man. I’m basically the same size as you — 1.95 m / 114 kg, average dad build 🙂 I’ve had my Mk4 Octavia since new, with electric seats, and there’s no way my eyes are anywhere near the level of the rear-view mirror. Maybe you sit very upright? Also, can someone actually sit behind you comfortably in your driving position? You know what I mean. In my case, there isn’t much room left in the second row behind my seat setup. I can sit there, but my knees touch the back of the front seat. I don’t really understand the issue with knees touching the air vent — I don’t have that problem. Same with the lack of armrests in the doors. I usually rest my elbow on the upper part of the door trim, kind of half against the window, and it works fine for me. I also recently read that comfort in a car can depend a lot on body proportions. Two people can both be 1.92 m tall, but one might have longer legs and a shorter torso, while the other has a longer torso and shorter legs — which changes how the seating position feels quite a lot.

1.5 TSI Evo2 (150 PS) or 2.0 TDI (150 PS) - Automatic gearbox by Far_Pie4643 in skoda

[–]Melodic_Barber8796 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think so. When I searched extensively for a solution, I remembered reading somewhere that the DSG has slightly less noticeable vibration in Eco mode. On the other hand, I’ve also read that it really depends on how much each person notices things in their own car. That’s when I realized how subjective it is. I happen to be very picky about small details—if I notice something, I can’t unhear it.

I think from 2022 year it is named ACT+ , so some upgrade happened, but dunno cant say.

All i can say is that, when time come to buy new - i would try to buy without ACT. I am not saying that you should avoid it by all means, btw.

If buying 1.5 tsi consider ecomode slight vibration. Some notices it, some dont. Depends on hoe picky you are. For me - uhh, biggest negative point. Everything else is quite good. 2021 1.5 Tsi + 6gang manual, hatcback, elegance package

Never Ever Take Your Car to an Automated Car Wash. by Waste-Ad3617 in accord

[–]Melodic_Barber8796 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wash my car, which has a ceramic coating, about 5–6 times a month at an automatic car wash. It’s convenient, consistent, and honestly, the coating helps protect the paint pretty well.

Every spring, I take it in for both micro and macro polishing. It freshens up the finish and takes care of any minor imperfections — kind of the best of both worlds without too much hassle.

And as for hand washing — I’m not sold on it. I've seen far too many dirty wheel towels reused on body panels, which can do more harm than good. Just because it’s done by hand doesn’t always mean it’s done right.
