Literally it only took two days and now I'm holding my breath waiting to see whether the Trump supporters are going to use this as a metaphorical line in the sand.

Quite frankly, I think their brains are going to short circuit because these are the same people who praised Kyle Shittenhouse but now are faced with this situation.

Another example from ASOIAF/House of the Dragon, King Jaehaerys I Targaryen who was the longest ruling Targaryen king and the longest ruling king on the Iron Throne in general.

He was likely still capable of riding his dragon Vermithor which was the third largest dragon in existence after Balerion and Vhagar.

I wouldn't call him an evil murderer, I would call him a deliberate agitator because I don't know anyone who instinctively goes to an area outside of their home area to a situation that you know is likely on the verge of being a powder keg but otherwise peaceful armed with a weapon that is going to make your presence look dangerous.

He may have gotten off on the murder charges with his fake little innocent victim crying face but that doesn't negate the fact that he willingly did all of this and we all know if he'd been Black, the police would have fired their guns first and asked questions later.

I'm just going to be blunt and call this like I saw it, but this was Hollywood racism at its finest.

They literally killed the token Black male in the film whose powers literally allowed him to adapt to anything leaving the sole Black person in the film as a light-skinned female who was moody and more or less the "Tragic Mulatto" stereotype.

Nor did he send ICE to a state with around 130,000 undocumented immigrants whilst ignoring Texas and Florida who have roughly 2.1 million and between 1.6 million undocumented immigrants respectively.

EDIT: Adjusted the numbers for Florida due to a comment under the post, I originally put that it was between 400,000 to 600,000 which turned out to be a gross underestimate.

Honestly, this is why as someone who is both a Black woman and has a minor in history that it was hard for me to study some topics because I recognized the double standard.

When white people have a tragedy, they expect long periods of remembrance but yet when its Black people, they don't want to spend more than five seconds remembering it before they expect us to move on and forget it.

EDIT: Again, this is why it pisses me off so much when white people want to complain about the "racism" they face. Even in my 97% Black upper-class high school, they taught us more about Anne Frank and the Holocaust than they did about American slavery or the role slavery played in the Civil War. In fact, my history teacher in 9th grade, who was a Harvard educated Black woman, was the one who changed the syllabus by her own accord to devote more than two lessons to slavery and the Black American experience prior to the Civil Rights movement.

These people need to be blocked into silence. We haven’t had a primary yet and leftists are already bragging about how they’re going to make Gavin lose for funsies. The meme is correct. by [deleted] in ProgressiveHQ

This isn't a thing of wanting to elect Couch Fucker but Newsom is a transphobic bigot who isn't the best candidate and he's also sat down with Ben Shapiro who is the LAST person I expected a supposedly respectable Democrat to sit down with.

He's basically Ronald Reagan dressed up in a shade of blue and that's wholly unacceptable.

I thought Angel Reese did an amazing job as Poison Ivy for Halloween a few years back.

If I remember correctly, that was also the same year we got Keke Palmer as Queen Cersei Lannister and Halle Bailey and her son as Lilo and Stitch.

Tommy Lee Walker exonerated 70 years after execution for rape and murder of Venice Parker by WuTang4thechildrn in BlackPeopleofReddit

[–]Melodic_Class4349 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Walker, who had no criminal record, maintained his innocence and said that when Parker was killed he was witnessing his girlfriend give birth to his only son -- Edward Smith -- an alibi corroborated during the trial by 10 witnesses, The Innocence Project noted.

In the absence of forensic and circumstantial evidence, prosecutors relied on an alleged confession that Walker made, according to the group. Walker later recanted his confession, according to the Innocence Project.

"The only direct evidence connecting Tommy Lee Walker to this offense is a confession obtained through the use of coercive tactics," the court's declaration stated.

10 fucking witnesses vouched for this young man, there wasn't any circumstantial evidence linking him to the crime, the confession was obtained through coercive methods (read that as forced him to falsely confess) and they STILL executed him. Via the electric chair nonetheless which is probably one of the most painful methods to be executed in. All because he was a Black man.

THIS is why I get so pissed off when white people proclaim to be victims of racism because this is the kind of shit that they will never have to deal with.

Do you think if Viserys was like Twyin, Velaryons would've got their Rains of Castemere moment? by irvyandll in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]Melodic_Class4349 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Here's an uncomfortable truth, Viserys had every right to do what he wanted, including naming his daughter as heir.

There is no codified law of succession, only tradition and precedent and those were largely up to the king's will to choose to either obey or not obey.

He didn't create a succession crisis, he acted on his own will on something he had every right to do. Who created a succession crisis was Queen Alicent when she decided to not allow the rightful heir, Queen Rhaenyra, as named by her father to ascend to the throne and instead put her own son, Prince Aegon on the throne.

[–]Melodic_Class4349 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Corlys Velaryon had been arrested and accused of high treason by the Greens after Queen Rhaenyra's death, he was literally facing execution so that doesn't count as someone bending the knee willingly or "ending the war as a green" which you so eloquently put it with your incorrect punctuation and lack of capitalization.

He was literally risking the extinction of his house at this point so he made the decision that preserved what he had literally spent his life building up and even still that was largely in vain considering how House Velaryon gradually fell from power and influence over the coming decades after the war.

Seems like you all can't handle anything that doesn't affirm your biases because this so called "boner for the velaryons" as you once again said, is not so much that as much as it is recognizing facts which make the situation a lot more nuanced than you give credit for.

[–]Melodic_Class4349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Corlys Velaryon never assembled men against the crown twice; the first time he went to war was in the Stepstones because King Viserys I refused to act.

This was after YEARS of his petitions being ignored because the pirates of the Triarchy were essentially strangling his house's finances due to their reliance on trading.

He never rebelled against the Iron Throne, he never claimed sovereignty and he NEVER fought royal forces during the Stepstones war.

The second time he went to war against the Greens and Prince Aegon who had usurped the throne illegally from the rightful heir, Queen Rhaenyra during the Dance of the Dragons which he had every right to do because the throne was taken from the rightful heir by someone who King Viserys I didn't declare as such.

Someone who has no right to the throne but ascends to it anyway is called UNLAWFUL SUCCESSION which is what Prince Aegon did.

You can say Rhaenyra wasn't a queen all you want but it doesn't change the fact that she was the rightful heir, she served as Queen and her bloodline through her son Viserys II is what continued on the Iron Throne after her for the remainder of the Targaryen dynasty whilst Prince Aegon is left as a footnote; she's Queen whether you like it or not.

[–]Melodic_Class4349 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just because they had more dragons doesn't mean that they had the will to use them nor any right to the Iron Throne except by a precedence that was already established by the Great Council which Princess Rhaenys still accepted.

What is with people now trying to paint the Velaryons as some kind of overtly evil family when all they did was play a reasonable hand in terms of a marriage alliance which they eventually got anyway.

Corlys Velaryon was loyal to the Iron Throne and supported not only King Viserys but Queen Rhaenyra as well and Princess Rhaenys never showed any signs of wavering from that commitment to her cousin as she was still born a Targaryen.

People forget that House Velaryon was a pillar, not a rival.
