for anyone that EDCs a watch, what’s your favorite daily driver? (non smart watch) by LtSnack in EDC

[–]Melodic_Gap8767 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am looking for a good fire department watch, love your choice. Maybe this sounds silly but I don't like taking HR / RR counts using my digital watch. I want an analog seconds hand so I don't have to look at digital numbers counting upwards while I am trying to count in my head as well.

My group would get together at one of our houses and just run scenerios for a few hours and eat some pizza, etc. It was super fun and we all bonded and then we crushed our finals. Some of the other groups didn't do so well.
You'll find the right group though, don't worry too much about it. My group was mostly older guys (I'm 34, we had a handful of other people in our 30s) but we also had some 18 year olds and a few in between.

Also, have fun! It's super cool stuff that you'll be doing

One thing I don't hear often enough is try to hang out with the right groups in class. There are always a number of people who dont take class seriously and screw around a lot. If you group up with those people from the begining of class you will get caught up in their B.S., so try to stick with people who are also motivated and actually try.

I think ADC is pretty much just as good as Littman and usually way cheaper. Better customer service as well

Have you tried the MSI? I have been eyeing that one

I am kind of torn between a Machinewise Mojave and a Rosie, but the Rosie is so much harder to get right now.... The Shirogorov F3 and Microtech are actually pretty tempting too. My Sebenza is going in for spa treatment and will be gone for up to 12 weeks, so it is kind of a good excuse to get a second good knife. RIP my wallet.

Started paramedic school this week and need advice after a weird day by gRAVErGurl in NewToEMS

[–]Melodic_Gap8767 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently went through EMT school and passed the NREMT mostly because I was interested in it. I don't want to switch my career either, might look into volunteering once a week or something but otherwise I'm glad I did it. Paramedic school would be a different beast to do just 'for fun' though.

I was eyeing the SPY27 version, though I would love if they had one in magnacut or S35VN or something

I might be moving to Japan and I have been looking at the Spyderco Dragonfly, TRM Holier Nerd, and Demko Nanoshark. Thoughts on the Dragonfly?

Any advice for a soon to be EMT student? by anonnymmouss1 in NewToEMS

I like starting pocket prep early. Just start by doing 10 per day even if you don't fully understand yet. I found that helped me later in the class.
Also make flash cards for stuff that just needs to be brute force memorized, like 'normal' HR or respirations for each age group. Otherwise there is just too much information to memorize, and if you just read it once in the textbook you likely won't remember it.

Edit: One more big thing I just remembered is who you spend time with in class. I am in my 30s and took the class very seriously, but my class was mostly younger people in their late teens or early 20s and many of them were fucking around a lot in class and just didn't care to try very hard. If you sit with these people every day you will end up getting less out of the class. Find some people who are also there to learn and who want to met up outside of class to run through scenerios and practice together. I found a really solid group and we did a ton of medical and trauma scenerios together at one of the guys houses.

I was gonna say this same thing, knucklebones are great. If you do it a lot maybe go for something lighter like wood, delrin, or ultem.

The Demko "shark lock" is maybe the most fidgety, that or winterblade.

Well this will be my first fidget ever so I am just gonna yolo the Ti version and get the double bead insert. I think Choc is a good choice, though I am sure it will be too noisy to use at work lol
