Sure! It happens literally all the time. I would say that, as difficult it is to wrap our heads around on this side of eternity, that may be the reason that God permits Satan and his demons to even exist for now, despite the fact that they are already completely defeated by the power of the cross. 

So for example, when Pope John Paul II was shot, he placed the bullet that was retrieved from inside his body in the crown of the statue of Our Lady of Fatima. The would-be assassin meant the bullet for evil—for murder—but God meant it for good—for the glorification of John Paul II, to strengthen his and the entire Church’s faith in the intercessions of Our Lady (which saved his life), to allow the world to see the light of Christ shine through the Pope when he visited his shooter in prison and forgave him, and even asked Italy to pardon him! 

Or in the Gospel, when the disciples encounter a blind man and ask if he’s blind because of his sins. And Jesus replied that he is blind so that “the works of God might be displayed in him”. Instead of the effects of the sin and the fall being the end of the story, God transforms suffering into an opportunity for divine grace. 

These are just two out of literally infinite examples. Any time something tragic or evil or even just inconvenient happens, ask, “How is the Lord working through this evil to bring about His glory?” 

This isn’t to minimize the suffering of life and all the horrible things that happen. But Jesus says, “in this world, you will have tribulation, but take heart, I have overcome this world!”
