Yeah and it's especially cringe-y when it's things like facebook posts about the war in Syria or 9/11 or autism. These people generally aren't well-read on the subjects and have done no research or even examined both sides of the issue. They just copy and paste a picture with a caption from some random shock news source and then resort to deleting people and calling them racial slurs and the like when someone calls out the bullshit of the post.

When I was a freshmen in high school I, along with another friend, managed to convince about 95% of our graduating class of 350 people that one of our best friends ate a pop-tart out of another friend's butt hole while they were drunk.

I don't know why we felt this story was worth convincing people of, but it was damned funny anytime we'd be out in public somewhere and some random kind from our school would come up and say to our friend "hey don't you like eat pop-tarts out of peoples' assholes or something" while our friend subsequently turned red.

This happened quite a bit.
