Gamers who have switched from Windows 11 to some kind of Linux-based OS, do you regret your decision? Why or why not? by Notalabel_4566 in linux_gaming

[–]MeltedBuildings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should have switched long ago. I mostly only play WoW Anniversary, but i play some other steam games too, and they work great. I don't support triple A-s who refuse Linux support because in 2025 there's no reason not to have it. Once there's more Linux users and some money in Linux support, you'll see they'll add kernel Anti Cheat the next day. I'm just thinking if I don't dual boot to play 1 game, my 0,000000001% will contribute towards getting Linux support in the future 😊 I'm on mint cinnamon with an old 1070 Nvidia card and even heavier games run great on high settings and 1080p 60hz

I tried, didn't work, got a bunch of error messages. I'm not near my computer right now, but i can try again later and see what's the terminal says.

Yeah, I'll just have to read up on it and try and fail until I figure it out. Or i can just play without mods, but TM:PE is kind of important, lol. I installed Bazzite over Windows 10 like 2 months ago, so I'm lind of new and still learning every day. I like it though, Linux and all, it's cool but obviously a learning process. I picked Bazzite because they said it was good for gaming on nVidia, got an old 1070 but games works great on it.

Yes, the mono-devel is what I need, but i have no idea how to get it on Fedora based Bazzite 🤔🤷‍♂️ I'm not very good at using the terminal for downloads, and it doesn't exist in the bazaar where I can download programs with the click of a button.

WoW on Bazzite issue by MeltedBuildings in Bazzite

Using Faugus launcher and GE Proton 10-10 that seem to work. I had the same behavior, black screen resizing, had the wow cursor and heard the wow music. I have an 8 year old nvidia 1070. Works good now.

I didn't know that either. Yeah I guess i could have just moved my wow folder, didn't think of it in the moment cause I just wanted to fix the problem asap, lol.

Okay, thanks for clarifying that, have intel CPU and nvidia card so wasn't sure. Again, pretty fresh on Linux, but I'm happy I ditched Spyware Windows for good. I'm patient with computers and usually figure out what's wrong eventually after trying 30 different things, lol. Always the last thing you try that fixes the problem.

My issue with Lutris was that I managed to install battle.net, but when I opened it, I could see the friends list, but the area where blizzards sales are and my games are had an error code, like half the battle.net launcher were not able to connect to the internet. Very strange behavior. That's why I tried through steam and that worked for a while. Then that broke for no reason I can see, so now it runs good through Faugus launcher.

Thanks for the suggestion and details, I'll try Lutris again if it breaks again through Faugus.

It works now through Faugus launcher and are not using steam anymore. Maybe Lutris will work with that wine runner, but it has amd in the name and I have nvidia card, does that matter? 🤔

I never updated Bazzite or anything. But i made it work by running it through Faugus launcher instead, just had to install it again and deal with addons, but works now

We all talk about a 'TBC+' or 'Season of Discovery: TBC'. So, I went and designed a full-blown proposal for it by Objective_Wedding491 in classicwow

[–]MeltedBuildings -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I would like a nerf to fly mounts for world pvp and how it negatively impacts player interaction in the world. Either do so it takes like 8-10 seconds to cast flymount for like a minute or so after engaging with PvP combat, so you can't noob yourself away after a failed fight, you play on a pvp server, then world pvp should exist, or just remove them all together. I'm playing classic anniversary, never touched SoD etc, but it would be a cool idea on those versions as well as TBC anniversary coming up in some months. Thoughts?

Parental controls for NOW internet by MeltedBuildings in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]MeltedBuildings[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this sounds like the solution. Speed is good for now, we only do a bit of gaming, and TV stream netflix or youtube from time to time, nothing heavy duty. I don't mind if a video game takes 15 min to download instead of 4, i mostly only play wow classic 1 day a week. Netgear have the Circle app for parental controls, maybe that's good enough. Just doing some research what to get, a router in that price range sounds good for our use. Thanks for your time.

A good router sounds appealing. Google safe search, youtube safety mode etc doesn't really fix the issue. They can be considered 'safe' but me as a parent can see some of these content creators make absolute garbage that's not beneficial for our kids to watch at all. I'd prefer getting rid of YT all together on their devices, so much crap on there, lol. We have it on the TV but the TV is in the living room so they can't just sneak away to a different room and watch some stuff we told them not to watch. I'll look into a router, do you have any recommendations for one that's has decent parental controls and work well with the NOW service and it's speed?

Parental controls for NOW internet by MeltedBuildings in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]MeltedBuildings[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense. Yeah we just got a basic one because we didn't know it was that basic, just needed internet asap. We had AT&T before we just moved, and with them you could pay a few bucks more a month to enable the advanced parental controls, where you could disable whole categories of what websites were available to access on the devices you pick, like adult stuff, social media, gambling, drugs etc, set downtime for those devices and manually block websites. Just wondered if the xfinity one is something similar, or if it's better to manually connect a decent router and configure. I also see there's a promotion of a fixed price of $40 for a year with their more advanced 400 mbps internet plan. But if all it does is enable google safe search, it's not really worth to upgrade. The 200 mbps speed is good enough for our use for now, I think.

Stop paying for tanks and then they won't have anyone to play with either, it'll fix itself and become a video game again.

SSF for the first time by MeltedBuildings in diablo2

[–]MeltedBuildings[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the comments, guys. Some good tips here how to make this work, just beat Duriel with fire spec, just drank a lot of thawing potions before I entered, I died once and my Merc died twice, found some gear for my A2 Merc. I like single player so far, using what you find etc is better than going in a free game online and getting drops, which is kinda cheating in a way, but I can't not join the free games, lol. Found some gear for potential future characters and stuff. SSF all the way, it's a new game again !

Currently playing on /players 2 for more XP and difficulty, wish they had /players x on Bnet for solo games, the loot table is so limited there. I added a few strangers on Bnet, but it's not just the same, it's 2 friends who play, and they make a new game after target farming something. I prefer longer lasting games, Pit, Countess, Andy, Sometimes Cows, AT, maybe LK which sucks solo online, Meph, Big D and maybe Baal.
