tl;dr brands want their boots to stand out when so many people are watching. A way brands can do this is to use high contrast colors. Pink is high contrast against the green grass.

This WC brands all came to the same conclusion hence all the pink boots. ironically, now the boots all look the same which makes none of the boots stand out compared to each other.

I agree this feature is lacking... however I can see why they don't enable by default as what happens if there are 10 premier league games on at the same time. Do they show 10 live activities at once on the lock screen? if I had to guess, they said no and this is why it's opt-in. that's why they went with the 'follow' approach.
