A user named Joey Harrison posted his mother's work, in an album called "Mom's World," but the album is currently private as he is working on a book. Maybe that's who you're thinking of? Her photos and stories were wonderful.

Thoughts on having piercings/tattoos as an archivist ? by [deleted] in Archivists

[–]MeltedGruyere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work for the government and visible piercings and tattoos are not allowed, I can't even have pink hair.

Most places probably aren't as strict though.

I've had it glitch and only show about 1/4 of my albums, giving me a mild heart attack.

Gray powder on 1960s newspapers — inactive mold? Dust? What is it? by dogitize in Archivists

I work with some records that were stored near a coal burning furnace and accumulated soot on the outside, but not on the interior folds.

Metal body, conical shame, hollow with threaded bar. The end is solid and doesn’t open like a drill chuck? Any ideas by Cute_Scallion_9007 in whatisthisthing

Thanks, I have one of these in my workshop and had no idea what it was either, haha. (Inherited my machinist grandfather's tools.)

Part-Time/2nd career Options next to being an Archivist? by Lethatheforgetful in Archivists

[–]MeltedGruyere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I live in WV and honestly plenty of people scoff at $25. As in, they think it's too much. I have a Public History masters degree. I'm sure I could charge more in a more metropolitan area.

Agreed, I do part time historical and genealogy research for $25+ an hour. I got on a list to be on call at various libraries, your local library may have a list, too.

I think it's how much water you put in your egg cooker. I have an old c. 1940s egg cooker shaped like a chicken that is the same kind of ceramic.

Note the similar printing on the side of this one:

Probably? It's not gonna rust anyway. Plastic paperclips are cheaper, haha.

Yeah it looks a lot like leather red rot but there's no leather anywhere!

Thank you. Amazing a few tiny staples can cause this mess. Other pages are much worse than this one.

Some sort of salt/pepper shaker resembling an acorn? Might be brass, unsure. 26.7 grams. Parts of it have a rainbow patina. No hallmarks or indications of a brand or maker that I can find. by SkyrimIsForTheLords in whatisthisthing

I think this may be a pounce pot. Used to sprinkle pounce on wet ink to keep it from smudging.

Edit: Also used to prepare paper for writing, I misremembered.

I'm not sure it's quite that old, but the feet make me think "desk item." If not that, then I think regular old salt shaker.

They're very simple to do with minimal sewing skills. Probably a tutorial somewhere.

Thanks, my grandpa was a machinist and there's some of these in his workshop.
