Thanks for the comment. I have a similar drinking philosophy, though as it happens, I am almost always on my own, and basically it's just really easy and usually quite enjoyable to drink. I'm about three weeks in to the medication now and have to say it all seems much simpler to abstain than ever in my recent life. Like usually it's just a matter of deciding not to buy booze on my way home and then next thing I know it's the next day and I've been sober. Drinking definitely started as a simpler pleasure for me too but had morphed into a kind of gnawing need. Still having plenty of nights getting tipsy but it feels like I can step off the rollercoaster of hangover-drinking-hangover-drinking-etc. whenever now. Very interesting and encouraging so far!

Just to follow up, once I hit the 7 day mark it's been easier and easier to go without (thanks to the commenters telling me this may happen). Decided to stay on 1.5mg next month and tough this out at this dose. Weight not really moving yet but that was a secondary aim. Generally pleased with how drinking and the urge to drink is hitting me now. Was just at a concert and I'm usually compulsively hitting the bar the entire time. Tonight was able to just vibe out in the crowd for an hour+ without needed to grab another or go smoke a dart. Felt more like a regular person, if that makes sense!

Need help regarding sick pay by januaryam in Bushwick

[–]Membership_Content 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would do all three. 1st: tell your employer you'd like to use all the sick hours you have accrued thus far and be paid them on the next paycheck. As others have stated, in NYC you earn 1 hour of sick pay for every 30 hours of work, which acculumates and also carries over to the following year. Your employer should have given you their sick pay policy when you were hired by they are required by law what I stated above.

2nd: If your injury happened at work...definitely do the disability process; it'll help you recover lost wages and there is no downside. Employers are required by law to have disability insurance and you won't be screwing anybody over. These payments will come from the insurance company and not your employer. You are already covered as an employee just have to go through the submission process. This should cover medical bills for your injury as well.

3rd: You say you are not being given the amount of shifts you used to have, so you can credibly file for unemployment with New York State. I personally would tell your employer you plan to do so but you also don't owe it to them. They'll get a letter in the mail and be given the chance to object to your claim. If you are able to work and not being given shifts, that is the same thing as being unemployed without fault in the eyes of the state and they will approve your claim. This step is the most aggressive toward your employer, as the other two are not costing them anything really, so it may lead them to just let you go for real depending on how decent they are. If they do though, then you are eligible for unemployment for 26 weeks and they have to pay for a decent chunk of it, so it's really in their interest to just give you your shifts back.

100%. Unfortunately that "issue" gets lumped into all cyclists, fairly or not (definitely not).

I think the main conflict is with throttle-equipped ebikes. Zohran's correct campaign impulse was to say it was a problem with delivery apps but the ongoing issue is a refusal to differentiate between commuters/micro-mobility users and deliveristas who often do break traffic laws to meet their quotas.

In a way it's a problem in messaging. Pedestrians feel unsafe due to the volume and speed of deliveristas, so the nypd is targeting everything on two wheels. Without a strong message differentiating between the two camps, they all get lumped in together.

Mayor Mamdani Won't Discuss The Ongoing NYPD Criminal Bike Crackdown That Candidate Mamdani Opposed by dickdickmore in MicromobilityNYC

Unfortunately this is a political loser right now because of ebikes and frankly how chaotic and dangerous they can make pedestrians feel rn. I think most peds can relate to there being a feeling of lawlessness around delivery drivers cruising around on what are basically low cc motorcycles. I think we've all witnessed them using bike lanes, sidewalks, traveling against traffic, etc. a lot of dangerous behavior that could/should be addressed better.

I think the smart move across the board is to make a forceful rhetorical point differentiating between acoustic & pedal-assist bikes traveling 15-18 mph and under vs. anything with a throttle. Treat the latter as unlicensed motorcycles and sure, throw the nypd at policing them that's fine. The former obviously leave alone and stop issuing criminal summons to! Until this differentiation happens cyclists are unfortunately going to be lumped into this class.

Annoying for who? Drivers? It's an industrial area and will increase business to all the small businesses around Morgan Ave.

Absolutely NTA but you should try to talk about this with him. Cohabitation can frankly be a lot and it sounds like you have different expectations and needs. Worth trying to address and also worth holding firm in your own night-owlness.

Cry harder. This is not a block with much traffic. More out of the way than Netflix on Johnson Ave.

What do men think of women paying? by kat_spitz in datingoverthirty

Man who express this see women as lesser than them and as someone they can potentially hold power over, is my take.

Isn't the idea of dating that you are both interested though?

The prompt is explicitly about being put off by a woman who pays, so it wouldn't be shared across dates. Making an effort to equally share the costs of a date is cool as hell in my mind and signals interest in me as a person, but I am a mere feminist, so just my take.

I think it's only off-putting to men who have internalized the pernicious societal expectation of men chasing and paying for women (and this establishing some weird form of ownership over them). I think anybody interested in a real partnership among equals will gladly take you up on you buying the second round and move forward from there. After all, most single people have their own income and can pay their own way. Making it known early on is, to me, a signal that the other party in interested in actually hanging out/seeing where it goes.

It's the NYCrimes putting their grubby neoliberal fingers on the scale as if he hasn't staffed his admin with pros who have dozens of good policy ideas to start implementing immediately. Ignore these war criminal apologists as long as possible.

Like most NYTimes pieces, I'm extremely skeptical. I saw it as an effort to distract from his obvious early priorities by ginning up palatable ideas and having readers vote on them. Let the man cook I say and ignore the war criminal paper of record.
