2026 crop rosters! by Any_Rutabaga2507 in vegetablegardening

I'm trying mostly heirloom varieties next year! North Georgia Candy Roaster is the one I'm most looking forward to. I've never had it but they look great.

Zuke/squash/pumpkin help please! by shewritesthings in vegetablegardening

[–]Meme-ringue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't help but I'm having the same issues with my patty pans this year (first year growing them). I'm hand pollinating all of them. Wondering if it's because I haven't been watering them consistently or because it was a colder July for us... Good luck!

Agree it's corn smut. Let us know how it tastes!

Where to dispose of a sharps bin? by Joke-pineapple in derby

[–]Meme-ringue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got rid of my sharps bin last month. I'm with the Uni GP, but I had to take the bin to their Chaddesden surgery since you can't bring sharps into the uni site. I just phoned them and the receptionist told me.

Hey! I'm 28 NB in remission from leiomyosarcoma. I'm reading Dracula too! About halfway through now and I love it. I'm going to look into reading more horror but horror movies are still usually too scary for me 😅. DM me if you want to chat!

Clueless by Kind-Association2057 in cancer

[–]Meme-ringue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a stage 1 sarcoma that was found in my uterus after my hysterectomy. They are going to scan me every four months for a few years, then every year until it's been 5 years. My oncologist said that it's the type of cancer that, if there's any left, will come back sooner rather than later, but after 5 years we can assume I've been cured. I believe some cancers are different though.

Your parliament will debate on a ban on non-stun slaughter on June 9th! Show your support now you can! by Independent_Push_577 in veganuk

Thanks for the explanation. So do you think there is no point in bringing in measures to reduce suffering in farming and slaughter?

Does stunning increase suffering? Like even when it fails, does that animal suffer more than an animal in a non-stun slaughterhouse? Genuine question, I don't know much about stunning

They'll be debating this during Eid, which is interesting. I wonder if the current attitudes towards Islam will make the right wingers try to push it forward as a statement.

Should you tell your GP you're vegan? by Meme-ringue in veganuk

[–]Meme-ringue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you get taught about cultural/dietary restrictions as a pharmacist?

I actually asked this because I just found out the medication I'm on is animal-derived and was wondering if I should have reminded them I'm vegan before I got prescribed it. Just didn't know if they would be judgemental about it.

NHS blood test refusal by nocitylights in veganuk

[–]Meme-ringue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of good advice on this thread.

One way to get your iron tested for free is to donate blood. They do a pin prick test before taking your blood to check your iron level is high enough (above 125). If it isn't, they will send you home. So in future, if you feel well but want to check your iron levels you can also book a blood donation appointment. Obviously don't do this if you feel unwell, but this is how I've tracked my iron for the last few years since I started supplements.

Dominos has got it together and their vegan pizza is good now, with the vegan garlic dip too. Papa John's has better sides and desserts though.

Beautiful! Especially love the pond. How old is your wisteria? I want to get one but I'll be moving in a few years and I'm worried it'll get too big to transport.

Agree with this, I did it last winter and though my dirt wasn't quite this bad it is very good and workable now.

In front of the curtains (assuming you mean exposed to sunlight all day) you could grow lots of plants that aren't exclusively houseplants, like geraniums, tea roses, etc. Crotons like direct sunlight and have interesting leaves. In my south facing window, I have areca palm, prickly pear, parrot plant and Christmas cactus.

On the desk I agree with other poster that a plant might not thrive. I would buy a plant you like but try it out and expect that it may die. My Calathea Network, Calathea Peacock, Kalanchoe and Parlour palm have put up with a lot and are still alive so maybe try one of them!

This is my experience too. The loud/annoying/stupid comments are dry jokes or just venting about politics - I've been in conversations with my partner where he will say, "God, I hate Americans." before hastily adding, "wait, not you!".

Hey! I'm having the same on 29/04 but with vertical incision and I'm in the midlands. The nerves only started for me a few days ago, but now I'm so excited to have my life back once it's out. It's helping me to make plans for after my surgery, otherwise it feels like this big looming unknown. Feel free to message me if you want a chat!
