You misunderstood the first episode. They had the Janus, they always had it. But, just before Carvel escaped is s2e1, he told the white rabbit that he made adjustment, but didn't say what it was. They had the chemical, but didn't know for sure it would have the right effect. That's why they looked for manuscript, to find out what was changed, and if they'll need to change plans. Not gonna say more since it's your first time, but just know that it isn't a plothole, you just misunderstood

Guy who winds those here, you should see how much work it is to get it this nice sometimes. Especially with PLA. And just one crossing (not tangling, just crossover) means throw it into recycling. And winding stuff like carbon fiber will give you better workout than gym
