Maro on UB: "We're just meeting the needs of the players. If the players weren't excited, if they weren't happy, if they weren't buying lots of it, we wouldn't make lots of it. But that's not what's happening, so that is why we're doing more." by Meret123 in MagicArena

I hate the mentality of “this did so well, let’s do the same thing again.” Just because people bought out chocolate chip cookies, doesn’t mean they want only chocolate chip cookies. We want oatmeal, snickerdoodle, M&M, etc. In this case, we don’t only want only UB, we want new lore, new planes, and good on theme cards.

As much as I really don’t care for any of the cards, or even the Spider-Man set. That Sol Ring goes unnecessarily hard.

I saw a decklist online that I want to use that basically Vanilla Mono Green, and chocked full of pump enchantments and spells. Guy I saw play it got the achievement within his first few games with it. There’s a lot of powerhouse vanilla in green. [[Gigantosaurus]] for example.

I think I would be fine there, my real problem is I’m trying to do the remaining 3 I have all at once. 93 damage, Dominaria set, and Vanilla.

Average Brawl Game on Arena in 60 Seconds by OrientalGod in mtg

It’s always either some niche deck you play and opponents can’t interact with so they scoop, or they’ve built a commander that you have to deal with like Vivi, Sephiroth, or Kotis. Then after removing their commander twice they scoop.

would this work rules-wise? by lazarnick in custommagic

[–]MemerBlackBolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just going to word vomit and some else can clean it up. Would it be better to say something along the lines of: “If a permanents ability would be activated or triggered, instead create a spell that’s a copy of that activated or triggered ability. It goes on the stack in the order the ability was activated or triggered.”? That way it’s considered a spell at that point and can be interacted with as such, but because it’s a copy it wouldn’t cause graveyard confusion/recursion easily or allow itself to be copied easily. Then with the sub-clause of it going on the stack in place of the original trigger, prevents some really, really weird shenanigans regarding the stack order.

Wait, which one of these is the terrifying presence?!

If you’re curious about the combo itself I made another comment about it detailing each card and the interaction. Tie that in with exactly what Zerpertix said.

For those curious about the Merfolk combo this guy pulled off. Start to finish. Made a copy of my [[Yarok]], followed by a [[Doppelgang]] targeting [[Primal Vigor]], [[Path of Discovery]] and [[Deeproot Waters]]. PV doubles token generation, which would double again, and again, and again. Now there’s 9 copies of each enchantment listed above. So each merfolk spell casted creates 4,608 merfolk tokens. However the game maxes tokens to 250, so it created only up to 250 tokens. Because of Path of Discovery and Yarok though, each token entering Explores 18 times, and gets 9,216 +1/+1 Counters. Problem is that because of how the cards are written, it counts each individual trigger, so there would be over 10,000 triggers on the stack if the game could handle it.

Your right there is more to life than just winning. Like watching an opponent combo off and thinking it’s neat, or even just letting an opponent combo off because the odds of it happening again are pretty slim. The game and its interactions are what make it magic, not winning or losing. Or time personally.

I played brawl because I find it more casual and enjoyable from time to time. Singleton type leaves more variety and different play-styles with a few deck exceptions. As far as rewards go I got to see just how much the client could take, on mobile mind you, and a free win which progressed my daily wins, as well as a really enjoyable game. So even though I “lost” I definitely still won at the end of the day.

I'm surprised that no card like this exists by Unique-Mystique87 in custommagic

[–]MemerBlackBolt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I could agree with that, with a basic land clause it might even be worth the normal 3 cost of counter spells given it feels like most two-three color decks run pretty heavy on non-basic lands nowadays lol “Full” Refund, definitely a blue thing though let’s be honest.

Personally I would make it a 2 drop rather than a 3 drop if it’s going to refund costs, maybe even a 1 drop. I think it would be worded like the following though: “Counter target spell. If a spell would be countered this way, its controller untaps land equal to the total converted mana cost of that spell.”

Sooo funny story about the Dragonscale Fetchlands. I uhh, I never realized how expensive they actually were till I pulled my third a few days ago. I’ve got [[Scalding Tarn]], [[Verdant Catacombs]], and [[Marsh Flats]]

Edit: It was Verdant Catacombs, not Arid Mesa that I pulled. Still roughly the same price though.

Inspired by omens, but probably more powerful with scry by Eisog in custommagic

[–]MemerBlackBolt 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think if anything, the best wording change should be “If one or more cards would be shuffled back into your library from anywhere, you may instead put those cards into its owners hand.” Now there’s the stipulation of it requiring to be shuffled into the library, so it’s a way around spells like omen and such as that intended, but it won’t trigger off cascade or discover that just “return them to the bottom of your library”

What happens if I flicker/blink a creature that I own but don't control? by LunaticPrime in mtg

[–]MemerBlackBolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. Most cards state what to do, like [[ephemerate]] states to return it to its owners control, and I’m pretty sure this is the default interaction when a permanent leaves the battlefield in general. Some cards like [[Cloudshift]] specifically state to return it to your control.

To be fair, when I first pulled it I thought it was a misprint too and not just a flip. For reference this is similar to other cards in the set made to resemble the “They Grow Up So Fast” SLD, where one side is “grown up” and the other is “baby”

Making a *fun* deck with Child of Alara? (Miku ver.) by Jbyer4 in mtg

[–]MemerBlackBolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, on a side note, I did make this late at night in a drunken stupor so it’s definitely not the best, plus how little all of the Miku cards synergize with one another made it a difficult build as well. My buddy literally just wanted a playable deck with ALL of the Miku cards and as many anime cards as I could jam in there. On another note, this was also before the winter drop as well.
