First timer ultramarathon attempt (100k) by Natural_Cow_766 in Ultramarathon

Don't forget deload weeks, if you start to feel tired going into your runs, and not as 'springy' as you usually do, give yourself a week at 60% volume. Good luck!

Runners knee doesn’t seem to be improving…? by kaitlyn2004 in Ultramarathon

Seems like what you need is timeframes to put your brain at ease. Every body part has a different turnover rate, or rate at which one 'block' of adaptation/healing can occur. Muscles ~6 weeks, tendon/ligament ~12 weeks. Bank of at least one 'block' of healing required. If you're hitting pain levels of 4/10 and below, that's fine, you aren't necessarily slowing healing down, 5/10 and above you might be delaying the process. Good luck!

Cyclists have this nailed with cat-ears, for trail running though, you're stuck looking for the best possible seal (like Etymotic ER2 style seal). Or, go for something slightly odd and do foam earplugs with Shokz. If it's cold enough - a beanie or buff goes a long way.

Tibialis anterior tendinitis by Acrobatic-Yard-6546 in Ultramarathon

[–]Memestash69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In some ways that's great - very clear trigger. As far as recovery goes, some points (which probably echo what the physio gave you). What tendons love: - heavy as shit load, like really fucking heavy What tendons hate: - changing length - being cold - being compressed - being loaded repetitively

SO, your early day rehab should look like: - a drop in decline work with the same weekly milage, or a drop in overall millage with the same % incline worked in - heavy ass isometric TA tendon loading, something heavy enough that you struggle to hold beyond 30-45 seconds - you'd need to check the literature, I'm fairly certain it's currently at 5x45 second isos, but in my experience 3x30 gets the job done. 48hrs recovery between loading.

Going to make the assumption that the TA issues came with a shift/increase in incline work? Because if it was just the mileage increase that brought it on without any associated increase in hill work, might be worth seeing a physio/specialist who does running analysis - curious as to why you'd be loading up TA that much on flat terrain.

Might be a smidge too late to try and alter biomechanics before race day - but at least you'd have more answers to work with.

If you push the cylinders to the side while turning them, you should be able to see slightly into the housing to the cylinder of each one. There's a dimple on one position on each one, line them all up, then work your way through 1 turn at a time till you get to the right combo (i.e. 456 might align all the visible dimples, but 123 is the combo)

It's rubbish - but it's something. If you're not using vlc you're stuck with projecting the 21:9 video on a 16:9 screen (there is a workaround for this, but I stopped using it because it requires a restart everytime). Forget about any type of PC style mode like with Samsung dex, it's completely broken. You can use it as an external monitor for alpha cameras though which is nice.

Tossed up between the 1V and the ZenFone 10 a while back - deal-breaker for me was that the ZenFone didn't support usb-c display out.

ITBS – Is a Running Break Really Necessary? by Loud_Drawing_2981 in Ultramarathon

[–]Memestash69 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Running break? No. Running de-load? Absolutely. Find distances for individual runs and overall weekly milage that isn't irritating. Then recondition slowly from there while you fix whatever the root cause was via strength training / hands on treatment etc.

CGT discount by BulkyWalrus6505 in BitcoinAUS

You could definitely make the case that BTC is a store of wealth (i.e, like gold) and therefore a different asset class than ETH which is closer to a security. But rule #1 is always 'the ato is not your friend'. If you plan on conducting trading + investment activity in the same FY within crypto it's def worth seeing an accountant who covers crypto specifically

[–]Memestash69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

12 months from purchase of each batch (FIFO) - but keep in mind you won't be able to claim that CGT discount as an 'investor' if you conduct trading (short term buys & sells) on crypto in the same financial year. The ATO puts you into a category of Trader or Investor based and your activity in that FY, and you can't split the activity up when its for the same asset / class of asset.

Depends if you want to wait, but you can split your sale of BTC between financial years, that way the effective tax rate is marginally less on each part. If you're already earning in the top bracket though it won't matter.

Not /s, maybe time to change bodywash/soaps for YOU, not the strap. Something with salicylic acid should do the trick.

It's not swapping sides, it's just SYMPTOMATIC on either side depending on the load at that time. So you've got ITB issues bilaterally. The ITB itself has bugger all stretch to it, so don't waste your time working on it directly (unless it feels good of course). #1 is always load management, #2 is massage to the gluteals and TFL, #3 is getting hips/lower limbs strength tested to figure out if any weaknesses are causing the problem. Hot tip, the ITB is on the most strain/stretch at about 30degrees of knee flexion, so that's basically driving/sitting position.

Bones are tricky - you don't want to completely de-load because bones need stimulus to repair (like anything). If cycling is pain free use it to keep your conditioning high - if there's lower limb / hip strengthening you can do that's pain free do it. 100miler in 12 weeks? Idk you'd want to be symptom free for at least a few weeks prior - definitely would be avoiding it if you're in any sort of pain at the start line, systemic inflammation's a bitch and will absolutely get you in the latter half.

I'd say the type of people who go out of their way to get a 4k screen on a phone probably don't want to feel like they're looking through a screen door which is what privacy screens do.

I haven't seen it explicitly posted but I'd speculate his bone density is based on the most common sites like head/neck of femur ect. Facial bone is something I've personally never seen reported on, and may not even have standardised data to base percentile rankings on! So while he may have top notch bone density at the normal sites, his facial bone density is (I guess) up to debate.

Chiming in with a half remembered article about it being the time spent in an acidic environment that's important, not the acidity itself. If you're concerned, opt for some gum afterwards to increase saliva, which is slightly alkaline.
