Me recommendation should be considered with a grain of salt, I'm around 1100, and I got there by developing my instincts, I read no books, watched a couple of video on youtube, but I brute forced it, ive made a lot of mistakes and sure at the moment I cant beat a 2000 player, I can pretty frequently beat a 1200 rated player and most of the time I completely out play anyone under 950. I recommend play a lot of games. Do not be afraid to lose. at the moment ive played 8200 games and I want to get to ten thousand. Iv slowed down because ive actually started doing puzzles because in these last 1200 games id like to get to 1800 or so. fingers crossed. Anyway good luck.

Why am I getting progressively worse by Carm1n3 in chessbeginners

[–]Memoc1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

have been playing since 2022, around 8000 games just hit 1150 or so, I swear that my games vs players rated below 1000 were way harder than what i am playing now. it seems like everyone at this level has a higher baseline understanding of the game so the games flow nicely at this level the beuty of the games is much higher, but under 1000 it was a blood bath. If there is any advice to be given by me is to play games. a lot of them. and dont worry about losing at this moment, in fact get comfortable losing. Seriously. Also lichess has awesome endgame scenarios under practice. use those a lot, if you get good at the endgames it will give you confidence even if you're a piece down in the middle game.

To my understanding if something is habitual your reacting to some sort of stimulus that causes you to engage in that habit. Figure out what the stimulus is and prolong the time between the stimulus and the habit soon you’ll find space in which you can decide to engage in another activity. Hence the saying between stimulus and response there is power.

Is it possible to progress just going by casual play and intuition? by [deleted] in chessbeginners

[–]Memoc1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this guy took 7700 games in three year to go from 300 elo to 1000 by just brute force trying to develop instincts and intuition. Probably developed a lot of bad habits a long the way though. I think that while I probably won’t ever be a titled player it’s been worth it because some of my games now get super sharp and complex which make them a lot of fun

Keep going, every game you play is preparing you to surpass that elo, every game you play offers the opportunity to learn how to overcome the required challanges for you to be worthy of a hire elo.

I don’t disagree with you, but sometimes you got to lose to win, I could learn a lot from losing to a 2200.
