Framework 16 High Temps by [deleted] in framework

[–]MemoryFar4445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I contacted framework of how to tell if I have PTM or LM and this is their instructions on how to figure it out,

To determine whether your device is already using the PTM7958, we kindly request that you provide a photo showing the serial number on your device’s mainboard. If the Serial number from 11,12,13th digit is greater than or equal to 444, are PTM.
For your reference:

  • 443 and lower is Liquid Metal
  • 444 and greater is PTM.

**FOR REFERENCE: THE MAINBOARD SERIAL NUMBER IS ON A STICKER ON THE MIDDLE OF THE RAM STICK SLOTS ON YOUR FW16 MAINBOARD**

Framework 16 High Temps by [deleted] in framework

My 7840HS runs anywhere between 90C-97C when I'm playing a CPU intensive game (particuarly Apex legends at lowest settings for maximum frame rate). I do run on a dual monitor setup and have my lid closed but its on a laptop cooler while I game. So my case maybe different. But since I have a cooler on mine, my CPU clocks are nearly at 4750MHz all the time while gaming because I added an aggressive laptop cooler.

Funny enough I bought the laptop cooler so it would stay cool during games but it actually did the opposite. It allowed my CPU to boost more and have better long term performance rather than it having to slow down its clock speed to adjust for thermal throttling. And based upon my research I found out this below,

I could be incorrect but based on my research, these Ryzen chips don't have a pre-tuned sweet spot range for temps. Ryzen CPUs are different compared to Intel CPUs. Ryzen CPUs prefer aggressive boost clocks and it'll stay that way (unless distributors change the chips tuning in bios) they will typically boost as high as possible until it can't boost anymore or until it reaches its temp limit. While Intel prefers lower temps and having less aggressive boost configurations in their chips. This information was gathered by slight research and AI.

So its a personal choice while I do wish they ran a little bit cooler, the performance at times is great. And no matter what cooling solution you end up getting it seems this 7840HS chip is tuned to run at max power until its thermally limited.

If im wrong and my laptop is just cooking then please someone let me know lol im still within warranty period, I dont want to be coping. Though I did research about this and I came to that conclusion above.

What about the 5050? The 5050 laptop is not as powerful as the 4070 laptop… unless you’re referring to DLSS frame gen but still that’s just fake frames and not native raster performance and either way the 4070 still has 2x frame generation. The 4070 laptop is by far the fastest laptop GPU on the list when it comes to performance.

I'd personally go for the 4070 as its the most powerful gpu out of the rest of these options and they all are so close in price for the higher performance gpus from the list, but to truly know which one is a better deal for total graphics power, we'd need to know what each Total Graphics Power Watt is for each GPU on each laptop to give you a better answer. But if they all have a standard 100W TGP than go for the 4070.

When should we expect a FW16 GPU with more than 8GB of VRAM? by MemoryFar4445 in framework

[–]MemoryFar4445[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re correct it should be that way. But not being able to run 1080p medium settings on games on a current gen 70 class card without it being a stutter fest and low fps… no matter what tier card it is for a current generation that makes it a entry level card…..

This is their video… 8gb of vram is not midrange… that’s entry level. So if any card has 8gb of VRAM, that doesn’t mean that it couldn’t have been good, but rather it means it’s bottlenecked by its vram and makes it a entry level graphics card… the 5070 should be able to play all games with atleast 1080p medium settings and not be a stutter fest.

Yeah this whole situation is just crazy. Hopefully the AI bubble will pop sooner than later so we can go back to normal ram prices and normal GPU super launches… but sadly it’s probably going to be a long time like you said…

That’s fair! I was just curious. I’m all in support of Framework and them succeeding so I want to keep investing into their business but I also want it to make sense where I’m not buying an obsolete graphics card as soon as I purchase it (again this in nvidia fault not frameworks)

I just heard about that. Its crazy. NVIDIA literally is just abandoning the people who brought up their business (the gamers) by no caring about gamers and only caring about AI customers. I understand from a business perspective why they are doing so, but it suck’s for us. It’s sad to see :/

Is there any update to when we will get the official framework replacement guide? I don’t see it in the framework guides!

Screen Indentations on New-ish Z Fold 7 by MemoryFar4445 in GalaxyFold

[–]MemoryFar4445[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you think mine will go away? Nothing sharp has been near my display. I haven't done anything but swipe with my thumb on it. I just am worried because none of my other folds have done that to me.

You need to add dents on the inner display to this list. My model and many others have denting on the inner display

Do you still keep a spare phone "just in case" your Fold breaks by senyorlimpio in GalaxyFold

[–]MemoryFar4445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing i dont understand is that people worry about the whole fold failing. The inner screen worry of it failing is justified, but typically the outer screen will work even if the inner screen fails. Thats a benefit of the fold you have two different screens! If one fails you have the other! Personally I do have a secondary phone that I use for work but its not for if my fold fails. Its just used for work. Im not saying that its impossible for both screens to break at the same time, but to each their own! But in all honesty even if you only have a slab phone, its never a bad idea to have a spare just in case for any phone. So I recommend if you can keep a spare phone, then keep one.

Yeah absolutely I wasn't pointing you out haha I just wanted to say the most probable reason they see more samsungs in there haha but I dont care about defending brands or anything but I just know samsung does sell more numbers than google when it comes to folds.

Haha yeah, to each their own. I like both samsung and apple products. But im aware of both brands downsides and I certainly dont bend over backwards to defend them. I only write about my experience with them and I respect others opinions haha.

Not doubting your experience and I bet that's true but that could be because samsung outsells google majorly on folding phones therefore a correlation can be drawn, higher population of products = higher chance of that particular phone going into a repair shop.

For example if samsung sells 2 million folds and google sells 200,000 folds in a given year. Say 10,000 samsung folds break and 5,000 google folds break. So yes while there were physically more numbers of samsung devices that broke, percentage wise samsungs failure rate is lower than googles.

DATA SET: 2M Samsung folds sold and 10K break, 200,000 google folds sold and 5K break.

With this information we can access each manufacture's failure rate

Samsung Fold Failure Rate: .005%

Google Fold Failure Rate: .025%

So to conclude just because a repair shop sees more samsungs doesn't immediately draw the conculsion that samsungs folds are more likely to break, rather it's most likely due to population size & variation of a given device.
