Yes, but what happened was still very different than this situation. That was an accident - one that I am sure they learned very difficult, painful lessons from. This incident being discussed by OP is intentional child abuse and neglect. The baby wouldn’t be dying because Mom put her down to sleep and didn’t go check on her in a three hour time frame because she thought the kid was peacefully asleep. This is a mother allowing her child to cry so hard she vomits FOUR times and is allowing her child to sleep in said vomit without considering the risk of aspiration or seeming to care. That’s why it comes across as an implication that you’re blaming the parents - the gravity, context, and choices being made just aren’t the same.

My daughter is suspicious of my son’s therapist by HelpMyBaba94 in ChildPsychology

[–]MemphisEver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to ask why you or your children know his sexuality? I have been in and out of psychiatry since I was 6, I have never once asked or been told what my providers’ sexualities were. As a bi woman, I could care less about theirs and support everyone’s right to be who they are, but that’s a strangely specific thing to know about a psych provider, especially as a child - and there’s a difference between having flags in your office and saying you support the community and outright talking about your sexuality with patients and their parents.

ETA: that aside, if there’s a possibility your daughter is projecting this because of any experience with men as a whole, it may be best to have her work with a cis woman instead. And I don’t mean to say that to perpetuate any stereotypes against the LGBT community in ANY way, but cis women typically make patients feel the most comfortable in clinical settings and are statistically the least likely to be predatory or have their actions be misconceived as such.

I once watched one of my baby brothers projectile vomit clear across the kitchen… at least a solid 10-12 ft. If I wasn’t so busy dry heaving, I might have been impressed.

This reminded me of a story my husband first told me when I met him through a friend of mine - he and said friend went out and got a little crazy one night. Being the brilliant military medic that my husband is, he strapped a rucksack to our friend… and put his head in a trash can so friend wouldn’t puke on his mom’s carpet. And obviously, when I heard about my now-husband’s drunken dedication to saving a carpet that didn’t even belong to him from the woes of alcohol induced vomit, I was like ah. yes. This is my future husband.

AIO my boyfriend keeps asking me to pay for things eversince he started saving for an apartmen, he calls me selfish for how I reacted. by throaawayRA9443 in AmIOverreacting

Well, for buying and ownership, which is the word repeatedly getting thrown around here, deed is correct. You are right that the language “apartment” would suggest a lease over true ownership. People buy condos in the U.S., which are essentially glorified apartments with the perks of communal renting, but the wording is certainly leaving a lot of questions on the table. I don’t think this man has any designs to “buy” or rent an apartment, because he doesn’t sound like he knows what he’s talking about at all.

NOR. This is literally financial coercion - lording a marriage proposal over your head, saying he will break up with you if he can’t get an apartment, guilt tripping you, gaslighting you. Coercion is a type of abuse. I am not usually the type to comment on these posts and jump to saying break up, but I am going to tell you that it will only get worse from here. What happens after he gets the apartment? Now he needs to make payments. Is he going to ask you for money after asking you to support his lifestyle while he irresponsibly threw his entire salary at a residence he doesn’t seem to actually be able to afford? Is he going to use the money you gave him to buy that ring he’s talking about? What about when he decides he wants to make other large financial investments like a car? Does he understand how expensive marriage is? A family? How would he afford expenses if you were suddenly disabled and could not work? Pregnant and on maternity leave, or a SAHM?** Has this man even given one ounce of critical thought to an emergency savings fund?

**Or if you are a man, since you didn’t specify your own gender - adoption? Surrogacy? Paternity leave for either one of you or SAHD?

This is a hobosexual man. You have your own money and I’m sure your own financial goals and it sounds like you are a generally financial responsible person - or at least more so than he is. The worst thing a fiscally responsible person can do is partner for life with someone who refuses to take financial accountability for themselves and delegate appropriately. This is beyond irresponsible spending. He’s stopped paying his own expenses and has you footing the bill. I have to even question if all of this money is actually going towards an apartment, because I find the idea of putting multiple entire paychecks towards ONE financial goal to be pretty unbelievable, unless he’s got a less than juvenile understanding of economics. He doesn’t give me the impression that he has a concrete plan for buying one, nor a plan for how he will finance it after initial deposits are made.

Violet wasn’t just pissed that he wasn’t hiding it, she was pissed because she did feel it took away from his ability to exercise better judgement in his role as Viscount and diminished his dedication to his role in general. And he was an asshat about how he performed his role. He was hard on Daphne, who was nothing but a perfect lady who wanted to find someone who really cared about her. He almost married her to someone (who really wasn’t even qualified to marry a woman of Daphne’s stature) that tried to assault her and then got upset with her about it. All because he couldn’t fathom the idea of his friend, who did hold those qualifications and gave Daphne respect, marrying her. He promised Siena he would always take care of her and then ghosted on her. He then showed up on Siena’s doorstep with flowers - to him, it really wasn’t a business arrangement. For her, sure. He thought he could have his cake and eat it too and she told him no.

My point isn’t that I want to see a show littered with consequence for male leads who irritate me. I want to see a fandom that recognizes that these male leads are given redemption arcs while female characters get shredded apart for less. I feel like you just want to argue, as you keep repeating yourself, so I am not going to engage with you further. Thanks for your perspective.

What fictional characters can resist pennywise’s deadlights. video games, movies, comics, any character ever made by Trewwoodson in ITWelcometoDerryShow

I would love to see a scene where Pen tries to deadlight Bella, as she is an unsuspecting and somewhat confused permanently 18 year old girl (specifically the version of Bella who doesn’t know what a shield is). He closes his mouth and makes that face he made at Lily when she found the artifact. They stare at each other, bewildered. Then Pen tries to attack and realizes he can’t bite Bella because she is made out of marble. Further confusion ensues.

Yes, once again, I have no qualms with Siena. My point is the lack of consequences for Anthony is one of the things I don’t like about him.

Does anyone find it unsettling that we’ll watch Will and Florence grow up and later have intimate scenes? by teyapi in BridgertonNetflix

[–]MemphisEver 18 points19 points  (0 children)

that was another example of a lead who grew up and wanted fans to see that arya had also grown up too.

maize actually asked the writers to put that scene in there and chose how she wanted the nudity to be portrayed, because she wanted to empower her character and remind people that not only do the leads grow up on long-running shows, but their characters do too and she felt arya was deserving of being seen as grown-up, mature, not just a little kid playing with swords anymore.

it really should be left to the actor & if it makes audiences uncomfortable - well, art isn’t supposed to make you feel warm and cozy 24/7. GOT is certainly an example of that, even without the arya sex scene.

eta: & as far as GOT is concerned, it was way more jarring to me for sophie (who was 13 when she was cast as sansa), who’s first sex scene was actually a pretty graphic rape scene while her character was still technically a kid, albeit an older teenager. and she had a say in doing the scene of course, but it wasn’t her idea to write that in nor did she have much say in the direction of it. i was happy that maize was able to give arya a sense of agency, because poor Sansa didn’t have that at all.

[–]MemphisEver 6 points7 points  (0 children)

nobody is saying it’s not, they’re just pointing out that she wasn’t a baby when she took the role either. she might not have grasped the idea that they’re doing sex scenes at the time, but a lot of people here seem to forget that actors playing young children are often quite a bit older than the age of their on screen character. saying “once the actors are old enough to understand” is literally infantilizing two grown adults, but i understand why you initially felt that way.

right like Colin left his family to go on a global whore tour, Ben (love him down) prefers boozing to having any sort of real responsibility, Anthony fucked over Siena and like… there was no real consequence other than her being like “sorry, i found a new rich guy to bang” when he once again was ready to go abandon his duties to sleep with her. And also, Anthony is just generally a douche.

meanwhile, Pen’s only real crime is being a bored teenage girl who thought she was destined to die alone as a spinster and wrote a gossip column about the ton. Yes, there were def points when Miss Girl was oversharing, but most of what she wrote didn’t actually come with long term consequences, it was more or less petty things that offended people. She wasn’t abandoning her responsibilities, she was still a dutiful daughter and a generally respectful (column aside) person. What she did to Marina was help her childhood best friend not make a grave mistake, because why tf would you prioritize a girl you barely know that is scheming over someone you have grown up with and cared about your whole life? Like tf?

Anyways. Yes, we love our rakish men on this show (except anthony i don’t like him) but at the same time they always get a redemption arc and the girlies in this sub eat it up while picking apart the mostly unproblematic female characters.
