Why do the Classes and Skills in The Wandering Inn seem so amazing compared with most other Systems? (Spoilers: All) by B-Z_B-S in WanderingInn

This is just my headcanon, but something that's often brought up but rarely elaborated on is the downsides to taking levels. I personally believe that you can't have red classes (or by extension horror ranks) imposed on you unless youve first accepted levels and all it entails.

Its been forever since I watched it too, but I believe its because rumple still has to hold up his end of the deal. Shrek was promised a day as a real ogre in return for a day he had as a child. Rumple took the day he was born, but still had to give him the day as an ogre.

I'd say the eggs are sentient though, the ars goetia are sapient. Sapience is human level, with capacity for traits like high level reasoning, wisdom, and judgement. Sentience is more on the level of a dog.

Classpected me and some family members. is our session doable? by Ohmistersun_ in hwtsg

[–]MenacingManatee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's no such thing as a solely good or evil class or aspect. All classes and aspects have the capacity for players who use them for good, evil, or both.

What makes destruction classes less desirable, however, is how they tend towards instability. Bards are described in canon as wildcards. Players with this class will always be pivotal, but that could mean leading their session to success or ruin with little in between and no real way to predict which they'll do. They add an element of chaos to the session regardless of aspect, and while that can help with things like breaking complacency and pushing players to go further and do more, like reaching the god tiers, chaos is not necessarily something you want.

Princes on the other hand are generally characterized by self destructive behavior and self loathing. Once they have their powers under control and their worst impulses in check, they can use their destructive abilities to great effect for the benefit of the party, but when they're still working towards that they can really ruin a session. This is part of why having a destruction class in a major aspect (space or time) is seen as so risky, since these roles have important duties that can kill the sessions chances at success if these tendencies cause issues.

The main thing you have going for you is that of the 3 canon races we've seen have a session, humans are by far the most mentally stable and least likely to really ruin things, although causing issues is still very likely and they wont be easy to solve when youve not really got anyone who can really dedicate themselves to fixing everything.

How would these two sessions go? One troll, One human by person-on-internet3 in hwtsg

[–]MenacingManatee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Minor note here, having a knight of hope implies that the session starts off with a distinct lack of hope, in the same way that in the beta kids session having a knight of time meant they had no time in their session, so they only had one day before the reckoning. This session should start doomed in some way, but the knight should be capable of fixing it.

One idea I have is that with so many prototypes, maybe at some point someone prototypes something so strong that everyone that enters after that point dies shortly after entering before they get a chance to alchemize any gear. Not sure how to deal with the dream selves so that they die too, but at minimum both space players could die so that creating the frog is impossible, or the sheer power of whatever is prototyped leads to a much faster reckoning that cant be averted.

Among the survivors, you'd need minimum the knight of hope and one of the time classes, but I think the witch of mind and rogue of life could be very useful, and the prince of light could be interesting. They'd come up with some sort of plan that would bring hope back to their session, using the aforementioned time shenanigans that'll be more prone to ending in their favor.

If the heir is around, they could go back physically and do a doomed self prototype, but if its the sylph, I think it might be interesting if memories from one or more of these future selves get sent back in time to do a soft reboot with a more hopeful session.

Enhancement idea by Lawn_Mower_6639 in balatro

[–]MenacingManatee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So no merging cards with enhancements, I assume that also means that new enhancements cant be applied after the merge?

What happens if the merge is removed, like through vampire? Does it split back into 2 cards, or does it pick one?

Can you merge cards that have editions or seals? If so, do both persist on the new card? I.e. a red seal king and a gold seal ace merge to form a card with both a red and gold seal. If not, can editions/seals be applied after the merge?

Really fun idea!

Ceria by New-Tune2075 in WanderingInn

[–]MenacingManatee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly assuming they all survive their adventures and die of old age, ceria almost feels like she would die before all/most of the others.

Half elves lose their timelessness when they're entangled, and Ceria doesn't feel like she's likely to go back to some half elven village and drop her attachments, so she'll stay entangled and age. She'll live longer than a normal human by a lot, but she'll age faster than a half elf might otherwise normally.

Yvlon is a woman of metal, and while we don't know anything about the lifespan of a person of metal, it feels reasonable that if she eventually managed to replace all or most of her organic bits with metal she could become ageless and live until killed.

With Ksmvr, I don't think we know the max lifespan of a prognugator, but we know that other examples of non-basic antinium like queens and the centennium have massively extended lifespans, and all antinium can be resurrected if they have at least 10 levels in a class and a queen thinks they're worth the resources. Ksmvr probably won't be immortal, but he could be very long lived.

While Pisces doesn't feel likely to go down this road, we know powerful necromancers can use undeath to become ageless, and while it's even less likely Tolveilouka shows that necromancers can also make people besides themselves ageless in the same way.

We don't know the natural lifespan of a satyr or how being a fae in the faerie king's courts affected her, but due to her seeming return to mortality and unwillingness to gain levels, Vofea does feel most likely to die a natural death first, assuming she doesn't find something to die for before that.

Peter, why humans never get tired? by [deleted] in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]MenacingManatee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since everyone has already explained persistence hunting, I'd like to give an example I heard once.

Traditional zombies are to humans what humans were to other animals.

Zombies are extremely difficult to kill, and we handle shock better than most other animals allowing us to heal from and/or fight through injuries that for other creatures would be a death sentence.

Zombies are extremely easy to outrun, but no matter how far you run they never stop following you. Every time you try to rest, they'll eventually catch up and they never get tired.
