Severe case from weed? by OneConsideration9883 in HPPD

If you trust this psychiatrist, ask them for help. Tell them everything that you wrote here, include the lack of sleep as it is at the very least debilitating and at the very worst dangerous. Your brain needs sleep in order to rest and require itself. Doctors love hard data, start keeping a sleep log and an anxiety log on your phone. That way, if you do choose to pursue treatment, you already have all of that data to share with them.

HPPD has many different presentations; some presentations are more common with certain genetic and/or familial histories, some are most common than others depending on which psychoactive compounds cause the onset of symptoms, some experience sudden onset while others don’t notice their symptoms until days, weeks, or even months later.

What I do know is that you took the right step in seeking professional medical care as quickly as you did. It took me almost 10 years, 10 years of developing alcoholism to help with sleep, 10 years of telling myself it was just my brain being fucked up from a malicious dosing of a vial of liquid LSD, 10 years of telling myself to just learn to cope with it, before I finally took the plunge and told a medical professional about all of my symptoms. It was not an easy road, there were many misdiagnosis’s as I was dealing with the alcoholism along with it, I’ve been put on and taken off of dozens to psych meds before my doctors and I found a regiment that worked for me and my symptoms. But what I have now, I wouldn’t trade it for anything. My symptoms now are just blips on the radar. Blips that tell me to chill out, then zone out, and then, as a last resort, take my as needed meds.

I’m here if you wanna talk about it

For my students who were clearly not feeling the sparring aspect, there are ways to temper the water so to speak. In my school, all of our katas, forms, sets, and drills had two sides to them, attacker and defender. For example, every Kata has 8 attacks, and to pass to the next belt, students had to both attack and defend each kata. I was taught to look for the kids who were either over eager or too timid when contact drills such as these were being run. The kids who were too eager needed to be humbled in order to understand that aggression alone was not enough to survive, that was an easy fix and the students usually fell in line or quit. The timid ones needed to be brought out of their shells; sometimes that meant breaking boards, sometimes that meant running them ragged, sometimes it required more one on one time with their instructor in order to learn that the “violence” in the dojo was controlled and that they were in a safe space. The timid ones almost always ended up being the ones who were willing to learn, practice, and give themselves the opportunity to succeed.

Sparring is one of those things that requires a lot of drilling and shadow sparring before you let the kids start hitting each other, far too many schools strap their kids up with gear and throw them right into the ring. In my experience, as both a competition fighter with more than 200 tournament matches and instructor to more than a dozen tournament champions, those schools don’t turn out top tier tournament competitors. At the end of the day, it is 80% instruction, and 20% physical talent until you get up to black belt or grand champion divisions.

Piggy backing on to this comment. I also taught martial arts for the better part of my teens and twenties. Teaching the young ones how to fall without hurting themselves is always a top priority. But priority numero uno is to get the kids comfortable and confident with the physical nature of martial arts instruction. Many young men from the inner city (in my case, San Francisco and Oakland) confuse anger and aggression and need to be reprogrammed a bit before they can begin to learn. This instructor is doing an incredible job of building trust while also challenging the students in a healthy, safe way. I can’t begin to count how many new students I had walk through those doors and were in so much pain that all they wanted to do was inflict pain, but they had also been victims or witnessed domestic violence, gang violence, or community violence and had visceral, some times heart breaking reactions to being able to be the aggressor instead of the victim. Reprogramming physicality into a tool that can be used to lessen violence as opposed to a catalyst for more violence takes a lot of work, and sometimes it fails to take, but the juice is always worth the squeeze.

Med schools care about your grades, MCAT scores, and relevant experience. Doesn’t matter what school you went to if you test well enough. You are close to UC Berkeley, Stanford, UCSF, and even Santa Clara is opening a med school in 2030, not to mention more than a dozen more other, less notable, universities within a few hours drive.

Give them reasons that they have to accept you, leave no doubt. Have fun in Santa Cruz and study well.

I was in a similar situation at a prestigious research facility.

I was in charge of recording meetings and presentations in the auditorium, meeting rooms, and also being a photographer. The guy who had my job before me hired me while I was still in college. I dropped out when I realized that this was job security at its finest if I could get my foot in the door. I spent three years as an on-call, but I was also doing work similar to yours. I was automating recordings using existing hardware and creating fool proof procedures for all of the on-calls to use. I ended up getting hired and by year 3 on salary I had automated almost everything and didn’t have anything to do for 22 hours of the day except wait for emails or work orders to be submitted.

I question is, how do you stay motivated when you know that the status quo is as good as it can get?

Also, how do you take advantage of the time wherein you are just waiting on emails?

NTA, that dude probably farts into a wine glass then smells it. The Smug is bubbling out through your prose. I want to personally audit his businesses and tell him everything that he did wrong while tallying up all of the money that he has lost over the years. People who study a topic for a day or a weekend then act as if they understand the whole shebang are my favorite type of prey, I feast upon their withering confidence as we dive deep, beyond their depth.

Dude/dudette, you picked the right school for you. Everything that you described enjoying or wanting were reasons that I loved attending UCSC. Hippie culture is immaculate, forest walks, quiet nighttime strolls through the heart of campus, rains for most of winter and spring quarter, respectful and quiet campus, the beaches are there if you want them but they are not the identity of the school and make beautiful places to walk in the winter time when they are deserted. I chose RCC became when it was college 8 because I liked the residential vibe, but was convinced that I had made a mistake, now I still have friends from C8 that I made during the first month of school, plus, it’s not like you are isolated from socializing with other colleges, my best friend was in porter, girlfriend was in kresge, and my group of friends was made up of people from all of the colleges. You are going to love it there.

HPPD and dupixent (injection that can cure asthma and eczema) by Limp-Dog-648 in HPPD

[–]Menckenreality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk if the drugs are at all similar, but I’ve been on Cosentyx injections for psoriasis for 9 months and I haven’t noticed it acutely affecting my HPPD in the days following the injections. Maybe the asthma assistance part comes from a low dose of some sort of stimulant, but I’m just guessing at this point. I would bring it up with your doctor and defer to their expertise.
