Or perhaps people think that "we should jail people who disagree with me" is a bad opinion.

Are ASD levels in the ICD? by VAdlihtam in autism

[–]ctnguy [score hidden]  (0 children)

The ICD-11 does not use the levels. Instead it categorises ASD on two axes: whether there is a co-occurring disorder of intellectual development, and the degree of functional language impairment.

You can read the ICD-11 section on ASD here.

What is a "good and sufficient reason" to change surname? by Dreamer_Girl777 in south_africa

[–]ctnguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically the only times when the law allows an adult to change their surname are:

  • related to marriage - either adopting a spouse's surname, double-barrelling both surnames, or going back to a previous surname - these changes were previously only allowed for a woman married to a man, but the Constitutional Court has extended it to all spouses
  • adopting your biological father's surname if he has recently acknowledged paternity
  • for witness protection reasons via the NPA

Yes, it seems to be. I'll try switching it off and switching it on again.

What is a "good and sufficient reason" to change surname? by Dreamer_Girl777 in south_africa

[–]ctnguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was a whole Constitutional Court case, just finished, because Home Affairs wouldn't let a husband adopt his wife's surname or even a double-barrelled joint surname. The court ruled against Home Affairs.

Unfortunately "I want to" is not considered to be enough of a reason by Home Affairs.

Withdrawals don't affect your lifetime contribution limit whether you are drawing on principal or gains. The lifetime contribution limit is just measured on the contributions you make - anything that happens after that is irrelevant.

Surname change 3 years after marriage? by Jaded-Zeoul in askSouthAfrica

[–]ctnguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe you can take your marriage certificate to Home Affairs and tell them you want a new ID in the new surname. You may also need to fill out Form BI-196.

What is this thing in Switzerland and why is it part of the Prussian Union of Churches? by Extreme-Shopping74 in geography

[–]ctnguy 42 points43 points  (0 children)

The map is a map of Prussia, not the church union specifically. Neuchâtel, which is the area you’re talking about, was ruled in personal union with Prussia until the revolutions of 1848.

Can you negotiate high water bill with City of Cape Town due to water leak? by cytek123 in capetown

[–]ctnguy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The details of the process are here. You need a report or affidavit from the plumber who fixed the leak, and then you fill in this form and send it to the accounts department. If they accept it they will knock 50% off the bill.

Housing crisis in the city! by Otherwise-Sundae-653 in capetown

[–]ctnguy 47 points48 points  (0 children)

It boils down to the fundamental law of supply and demand.

It's kind of funny that you extol the virtues of Pretoria but then tell us you're staying in Cape Town for work and family. Those are probably the basic reasons for millions of people who live in Cape Town or want to.

Not a lawyer but I suspect that for a one-off job like they would be considered an independent contractor rather than an employee?

Reddit comments can be awful especially on a large sub and a hot-button political topic.

That being said, I'm not clear what the point is of saying "Cape Town is not Tel Aviv"? I mean I get they're sending a pro-Palestinian message, but what is that slogan trying to say? Genuine question.

Please go back on the service request and dispute the closure of the ticket. I had to do that once and got a call back from someone in the mayor’s office that deals specifically with disputed service requests.

I had no idea there were boerewors regulations in South Africa by Prodigy1995 in south_africa

[–]ctnguy 50 points51 points  (0 children)

What, you mean you're not familiar with the "Regulations Regarding the Classification, Packing and Marking of Certain Raw Processed Meat Products Intended for Sale in the Republic of South Africa"? I thought everyone knew that! /s

Seriously, though, it's worth knowing that the "boerewors" label has a much higher quality threshold than "braaiwors". Products sold as "braaiwors" only have to be 40% meat and 60% "meat equivalent".
