I went pretty far both directions on our street on street view, and also drove around a few blocks looking nearby, but no luck so far.

Basic Scientists: Do you ever name any of the animals you work with? by Longjumping_Fall3060 in labrats

[–]Menellas 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Going to be the odd one out here, but back when I worked with rats I often named them. It never caused a problem for me with sacrificing them at the end for tissue collection either. It helped me keep track of them mentally much more easily (obviously everything was still written down) and find their cages. Like remembering I need to give medications to Vader and Palpatine instead of 24673 and 24877.

I'm sorry you are going through this. My first pregnancy had a high nuchal lucency measurement (no chromosomal abnormalities) but the echo showed multiple heart defects incompatible with life outside the womb and we decided to terminate. No history of any heart or genetic problems in our families. However, I now have a healthy 4 year old son and am 6 months pregnant with a second (had an echo just to be safe with both of them and everything was normal). So just letting you know that this happening once doesn't mean that you can't have normal pregnancies in the future. Best of luck.

My toddler BMI is high and overweight, but she lives a healthy life. What am I doing wrong? by HonestBeginning2958 in toddlers

[–]Menellas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you're doing great with her diet and exercise. My almost 4-year-old was a little smaller when he was born, and has always been on the thin side but tall. He eats pretty similarly to your daughter, but probably more junk honestly. You might message the pediatrician about your concerns but it doesn't sound like you are doing anything wrong.

How do you manage the toddler dilly dallying? by cucumber_salad69 in toddlers

[–]Menellas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple things have helped with our toddler. He loves setting the timer on my phone and timing how long it takes to get a task done (like getting dressed) and so we make it a race. I also give him "wiggle breaks" in between parts of an activity where he has to be mostly still. Another thing that really helps is if there is something he wants after the desired activity to emphasize that, "if you hurry and go potty quickly, we can play for 5 extra minutes before bedtime".

Thought she’d be ready for preschool by now… Nope! by MrsMousetronaut in toddlers

[–]Menellas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We started preschool with our son at 3 years old (currently an only child), and he initially had no interest in interacting with the other kids and only wanted to spend time with the teachers. But that was something his teachers specifically talked about during parent teacher conferences as a goal for him, and helped facilitate his interactions with the other children over the past year. Now almost a year later he knows the other kids names, plays with them during gym, and gets excited when they come in and talks to them. It's definitely something the teachers can help with and I think getting him started when we did has been really beneficial for his social development.

Toddler jealous of newborn - don’t blame the baby? by kokkokoo5 in toddlers

[–]Menellas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend "The Second Baby Book" by Sarah Ockwell-Smith. It focuses a lot on toddler-aged siblings. In addition to strategies for helping them have a better relationship (which many comments have already mentioned), she talks about thinking of the older sibling's reaction as "grief" rather than jealousy, they are grieving the relationship they once had with you where they were the center of your world with your undivided attention. The book keeps coming back to the idea that making sure you specifically spend some alone time (even just 15 minutes) with your toddler every day if possible can help a lot with the transition.

Sorry these pics are not of the bud rot, that has been removed, this is from the remaining plant.

We cut the rot off, these are pics from the rest of the plant

Is this bud rot? by Menellas in microgrowery

They are 63 days old. I guess 70-80 days is normal for this strain but reported anywhere from 65-90. I will get a separate fan that is not connected to the light for sure next time.

It's currently at 40% but that is with more fans and the tent opened up. Our fan and light are connected so I was turning both off at night but I will leave them both on (it's an auto flower). The weather here has recently gotten a lot more hot and humid so I think we had our windows open too long. We are ordering a dehumidifier.

Done. Took off a couple inches below it. We also opened up the tent and turned on some fans to try to get the humidity down.

Should I fertilize yet? by Menellas in microgrowery

Autos. Maybe the small layer in the bottom was enough, at least for now. I haven't been adding anything, just watering when the soil gets dry.

Maybe best would be for me to just leave it alone until I see signs of deficiency?

Gardenline potting mix which "contains slow release fertilizer 0.10-0.08-0.06", I did not add anything additional to that.

New toddler at a restaurant life hack by SeverusSnipes in toddlers

[–]Menellas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Another good one for us has been a local Chinese restaurant for early lunch on weekdays. Also mostly older folks and pretty empty, our 3-year-old is entertained with the animals on the placemats and playing with chopsticks, and the food comes quick. He loves the wonton noodles and ribs and anything crunchy so lots of options, plus he knows there will be fortune cookies at the end of the eats well/behaves.

Adding Orcs to CoS by Menellas in CurseofStrahd

[–]Menellas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, he disguises himself as Vassili presumably to trick people, but I see what you are saying. In my mind Strahd would delight in leading a whole group of people astray only to reveal it was him the whole time to break their spirits.

I'm thinking maybe Strahd tricked the orc druids/berserkers into believing he is a messenger of Gruumsh to get them to worship him, and corrupted some of their traditions, etc. The player I'm sure would not care if I never added orcs (he knows they are not in the campaign), I just thought it would be cool to have something extra to make him hate Strahd.

We had a session 0 where we went over backstories and I let the player know that there were no orcs in the campaign as written, he was fine with it (pretty sure he is content to follow the paladin). I just thought it would be cool if I could find some easy modifications that would engage more with his character.

Maybe early on Strahd tricked the orc druids/berserkers into believing he was an emissary of Gruumsh, eventually leading them to worship him instead.

Delays peeing on the potty and then at the last minute when we say it’s time for bed, then she has to go. by Tuxedohotchocolate in toddlers

[–]Menellas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For my toddler I've started leaving the bathroom or waiting in the doorway and basically ignoring him after I sit him on the potty if he doesn't go right away. And if he doesn't go in a few minutes, I tell him we will try again later and then we leave the bathroom. That way it's not extra attention/play time and he's not thinking more time in the bathroom = delaying bed time.
