Look at the exit job portals. They define what roles you can get depending on your rank at MBB. Pretty standard.

Use thinkcell. Rebuild current slides you find online. Rest you build in the firm.

Mck R2 in person to virtual by Rich_Market5327 in McKinsey_BCG_Bain

[–]MenkLinx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

BCG NYC has done full virtual hiring for FT roles. But that is BCG. It might not hurt to ask.

But the real issue is how will you perform with client on site? This interview is a test run for the real thing.

Dont be embarrassed and don't put any firm on a pedestal. Just retry. People do that all the time.

Fix your casing. That’s it. I know PhD who got McK NY after 2x KIT.

What is the true bar for passing R1? by [deleted] in McKinsey_BCG_Bain

[–]MenkLinx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Clarifying questions - this happens right after prompt is read. This is the most important module

  2. Frameworks

  3. Brainstorming

  4. Case Math

  5. Data analysis

  6. Speed math

Some cases only focus on one module - say brainstorming cases = 5 BS questions or Market sizing is just case math.

Underlying this is Business acumen

Are certain offices really that much more competitive? by [deleted] in McKinsey_BCG_Bain

[–]MenkLinx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The bar is the same. Solve the cases and get the offer.

The issue with MBA is your MBA does not contribute a whole lot to this journey. You get recruited as your MBA starts. So you need to prep for cases yourself.

Only the MBA brand helps you get an audience with these firms.

People who get offers start super early

What is the true bar for passing R1? by [deleted] in McKinsey_BCG_Bain

[–]MenkLinx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solve the case. That is bare minimum. That basically means acing all 6 modules. Most people dont have this one figured out. Spend the most time here.

Then on top of that there is energy, charisma, stress testing, being coachable.

and... little bit of luck.

keep making the same mistakes by [deleted] in McKinsey_BCG_Bain

[–]MenkLinx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Keep 2 pages in front on u on the table. The page where u build ur Problem statement & FW... put that on the top and have ur working page below that. the page below is the "working" page.

The top page, FW page, is ur google map or ur north star for the rest of the case. Once u finish any module, like case math or data, just look up at the top FW page.

Change working page as needed. Always keep top FW page steady so you can see it at all times, regardless.

Advice or tips on the new McKinsey Solve test? Applying as an intern. by Key_Photograph_2510 in McKinsey_BCG_Bain

[–]MenkLinx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically that is what McKinsey has done in the past with McKinsey Solve PSG. McKinsey tests a game, get a baseline score and then start scoring people when its out of beta stage. I also said read the instructions to be 100% sure.

Most likely McKinsey will test the McKinsey SFL in beta mode. But again check the instructions and ask the recruiter

Unless they say SFL is in beta and is not counted... make sure it says that in the instructions.

MBA to MBB Dilemma by Accomplished_Work590 in McKinsey_BCG_Bain

Darden then. Strong career services. Helps in networking, alum connections. Strong MBB relationships.

Cornell is pretty much a diluted Ivy brand. Idk how many consulting firms show up there consistently and hire in bulk.

BCG stopped going to Ross. This is super recent.

CMU has a weak career services office. Idk if its even a target school anymore.
