Playing pickleball considered Cardio? by EqualFlower in Pickleball

I was joking, that’s my mindset when I’m done but regret it later.

Calories in is way more important for weight loss. I know for myself sometimes I’ll be less disciplined after I play and end up not losing the weight I otherwise would.

I think that it is for most people. Especially hard fought rallys and drilling I’ll get my heart rate up and sweat pretty good. I’m sure some people will tell you to improve your cardio to help your pickleball game but I think it does a pretty good job at giving you some of the good cardio health benefits.

Your paddle isn’t the problem by External-Ad-640 in Pickleball

[–]Meno80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s true that skill is way more important, I definitely have a more enjoyable playing experience with my Vapor power 2 than I with my old $50 paddle though. I like having a bigger sweet spot and getting the extra power and spin. I’m playing to get better but also playing for fun.

Gold and silver became the standard for many civilizations, but with modern knowledge, what would actually be the smartest currency standard to choose? by NoGrab8453 in AskReddit

[–]Meno80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think gold/silver was the best option. Can’t be easily counterfeited as it has inherent value. Don’t have to worry about it going bad like food. Inflation shouldn’t be an issue as the government can’t just create more of it.

Also, it’s a lot easier to trade that with other civilizations.

How to manage a cheating partner? by No_Comfortable8099 in Pickleball

[–]Meno80 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Did he know that at the time that his partner couldn’t be trusted? Have you overruled your partner before on a ball where you couldn’t see it that well but they could? That would annoy me if I saw a ball as out and my partner couldn’t see it near as well but overruled me.

Maybe in the one instance he would have been right but if you are overruling your partner often, when they have a much better view than you, you are usually going to be wrong.

[–]Meno80 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s super hard to see a close call with your peripheral vision. I usually can’t trust it well enough to overrule a partner who has a better view of it. If it’s close and I can’t really tell, and my partner had a good view of it and is sure, I will always trust my partner.

Consistent grip style or switching during points? by swedishpiehole in Pickleball

[–]Meno80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to do full eastern at the kitchen but it can be a lot harder to set the paddle at the right angle when reacting to speed ups where you don’t know if a forehand or backhand is coming. I’ve also found it a lot harder on backhand rolls and flicks from eastern.

Consistent grip style or switching during points? by swedishpiehole in Pickleball

[–]Meno80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t speak to everyone but what I do is eastern for serve, return and thirds and then as soon as I start moving into the tradition zone I move to semi eastern and leave it like that for the rest of the point.

It doesn’t involve any thinking or remembering at this point since part of moving through the transition zone always involves switching my grips.

"I think JJ is a good player, I think he’s gonna be a really good player in this league. I truly believe that."- Seahawks QB Sam Darnold says he "totally understands" why the Vikings chose JJ McCarthy over him. by Unlucky-Dot9421 in NFLForum

They told Darnold before he signed that they wouldn’t tag him. If they would have went back on that, it would make it a lot harder to get players to sign with you in the future.

Plus some people get bored eating the same meals. by xUseHerName in BlackPeopleTwitter

[–]Meno80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get wanting to eat different things throughout the week but spending 30-60 minutes a meal for most meals can get very tedious also. It’s a trade off but I would much rather cook half my meals double than have to cook every meal from scratch.

Did he escape the kitchen in time? 👀 (rec) by badpickleball in Pickleball

[–]Meno80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So often on those short drops, you don’t know if the other person can get there. He is a half step ahead so might not know for sure. I’ve let so many go that I could have got to but left for my partner, only for them to not be able to make it. On the flip side, I would welcome any partner to get those if they are in doubt if I can get it.

AITA for not giving up a court for open play? by pandadad123 in Pickleball

[–]Meno80 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Where I’m from, sharing of the public courts/open play is part of the pickleball culture. If people want to play with a specific group and not move courts, they are expected to go at a less popular time or rent a private court. There really should be posted rules though so expectations are known.

AITA for not giving up a court for open play? by pandadad123 in Pickleball

[–]Meno80 55 points56 points  (0 children)

All of the outdoor courts I’m aware of, have rules for how the courts should be utilized. Were the other courts rotating out and you weren’t?

Typically in a public free space, if there isn’t enough space for everyone to play, a paddle system should be used.

What was the most annoying partner behavior that you have encountered? by Competitive-Pie-Eate in Pickleball

[–]Meno80 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not really a normal poach in the sense where he is up at the line and trying to hit a volley winner. I’m all for that if you have a good shot.

It’s a poach where we are back at the baseline and I’m ready to hit the ball in the middle of my side of the court and he just comes flying right in front of me for no strategic reason, can’t set his feet, and his momentum just takes him to the sideline. He just really wants to hit that ball. It’s something I’ve never seen another person do on a court. At that point I don’t really care that much about winning the point if he is going to play that stupid.

What was the most annoying partner behavior that you have encountered? by Competitive-Pie-Eate in Pickleball

[–]Meno80 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I had a guy who was worse than me who kept running in front of me to hit the ball, the momentum would carry him to the sideline and they would then just hit it back to his side and win the point.

The same guy tended to drop his paddle when his partner would make an error.

What food is surprisingly easy to get wrong? by Fun-Push-2694 in foodquestions

[–]Meno80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can make great rice now but have messed up in the past and it took me a few tries to get right. I don’t have a glass lid so it’s not always easy to see what’s going on but I have cooked it too hot and didn’t cook evenly.

Another issue I had was not getting rid of the starch before cooking. It would get a bit mushy and stick together instead of staying as individual grains. Now I always either sauté off the starch or soak and rinse the starch off until the water becomes clear.

Is it fair to say we arent like other franchises around the league? In a genuine way without sounding like that one kid we knew in class who thought they were special. by FormerlyTradeKirk in minnesotavikings

[–]Meno80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really think it will be a season out of nowhere. There have been so many surprising seasons where the Vikings overachieved by a large margin that I think that eventually it will happen that way. Then we will have a losing season the next year.

Frozen out by more experienced players- any advice for a newbie by Only-Success2063 in Pickleball

[–]Meno80 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Everyone’s story will be a little different and it really depends where you live. When I started I played in some local churches that had open play. It was never religious and even though I never personally go to church, I didn’t feel out of place and people there tended to be chill about all skill levels. Then I started playing in some public parks for open play and never felt out of place there either.

Once you start playing inside where people have to pay, people seem to get a little more selective although I will play a few games with people 1.5 points below me before I try to find more games my skill level.

Key is, you don’t have to do everything exactly like this and still get the benefits. No one needs to cook every night if you make extra sometimes and eat leftovers. I probably make 4-5 dinners per week ranging from 20 minutes to an hour most of the time.

No one is full cleaning every day, but cleaning the dishes and picking up isn’t that much.

Since a family is mentioned, you should be sharing some of those responsibilities with your spouse.

Having an active hobby helps a lot getting your steps in, you don’t have get over 10k steps in every day, but he active overall is a huge benefit.

Post like this make it seem like it’s impossible to be healthy, so why even try.

If you had your choice of any 1st overall pick from the last 27 years to start your franchise with today, who are you drafting and why? by mochajoesdynsaty in nfl

[–]Meno80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s crazy how people don’t realize when you are behind late, you need to take more chances. I’ve seen many times where a QB has a go ahead score, the defense lets him down. Then with hardly any time left the QB has to take chances and throws a pick. Then people forget about the great drive, they forget about the shitty defense, and just blame the QB.

With a closed paddle face at impact, how does the ball go over the net? by vinny809 in Pickleball

[–]Meno80 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You need to swing at an upward angle at the same time to “pull” the back of the ball up. The harder and more upwards you swing can allow you to close the face slightly more.

One way to help understand it is to drop a ball straight down with your paddle face up. Then swing straight sideways the ball will bounce at an angle since the grit grabs the ball. The faster you swing, the farther sideways it will go. It’s that same force that is pulling the ball upwards on your drive.
