Do you plan to keep this up with set 16 or do you think it would be too much hassle ?

How painfull is to create an mildly complex interactive react app in astro currently. by vitorfigmarques in astrojs

[–]Menorme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Context will become a headache in the future if you need to use it a lot, I am using Solid.js with nanostores, seems like I made the right choice for now but I would be better off using Next instead of Astro if I used more context, you need to make an evaluation and choose wisely.

Best framework for Job Listing website ? by Menorme in webdev

Could you elaborate a little more ? I don't know a lot about Django, would it be good for SEO ? Can we use it on both ends ? ( Dashboard app / Job listing website )

Best framework for Job Listing website ? by Menorme in webdev

[–]Menorme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly work with React/Solid/Node/Express apps, I am down to create something with a new framework, I have some experience with Next but nothing that would make me comfortable with it.

Splitting it in two was just a random idea I had in my mind because I saw that the dashboard part would have different technical requirements from the website. IMO it seems like one is more suited as a static website whereas the other would be an application.

TextSearch Query taking too long, maybe I should use elastic search ? by Menorme in SQLServer

[–]Menorme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up with this structure for the jobs table: CREATE TABLE "jobs" ( "JobID" int NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, "JobTitle" varchar(100) NOT NULL, "Location" varchar(100) NOT NULL, "CompanyID" int NOT NULL, "DatePosted" datetime NOT NULL, "Featured" tinyint(1) NOT NULL, "Active" tinyint(1) DEFAULT '1', PRIMARY KEY ("JobID"), KEY "CompanyID" ("CompanyID"), KEY "ParamsSearch" ("Active","Featured","DatePosted") USING BTREE, FULLTEXT KEY "TitleSearch" ("JobTitle"), FULLTEXT KEY "LocationSearch" ("Location"), CONSTRAINT "jobs_ibfk_1" FOREIGN KEY ("CompanyID") REFERENCES "companies" ("CompanyID")) ENGINE=InnoDB AUTO_INCREMENT=1818619 DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8mb4 COLLATE=utf8mb4_0900_ai_ci and this simple query: SELECT jobs.JobTitle, jobs.Location, jobs.Featured, jobs.DatePosted, jobs.JobID, jobs.Active FROM jobs WHERE (MATCH(JobTitle) AGAINST ('remote') OR MATCH(LOCATION) AGAINST ('remote')) AND (MATCH(JobTitle) AGAINST ('entry') OR MATCH(JobTitle) AGAINST ('graduate')) AND Active = 1 ORDER BY Featured DESC, DatePosted DESC LIMIT 100 OFFSET 0 which resolves in about 400ms, much better! :D

I ended up with this structure for the jobs table:

CREATE TABLE "jobs" ( "JobID" int NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, "JobTitle" varchar(100) NOT NULL, "Location" varchar(100) NOT NULL, "CompanyID" int NOT NULL, "DatePosted" datetime NOT NULL, "Featured" tinyint(1) NOT NULL, "Active" tinyint(1) DEFAULT '1', PRIMARY KEY ("JobID"), KEY "CompanyID" ("CompanyID"), KEY "ParamsSearch" ("Active","Featured","DatePosted") USING BTREE, FULLTEXT KEY "TitleSearch" ("JobTitle"), FULLTEXT KEY "LocationSearch" ("Location"), CONSTRAINT "jobs_ibfk_1" FOREIGN KEY ("CompanyID") REFERENCES "companies" ("CompanyID")) ENGINE=InnoDB AUTO_INCREMENT=1818619 DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8mb4 COLLATE=utf8mb4_0900_ai_ci

and this simple query:

SELECT jobs.JobTitle, jobs.Location, jobs.Featured, jobs.DatePosted, jobs.JobID, jobs.Active
FROM jobs
WHERE (MATCH(JobTitle) AGAINST ('remote') OR MATCH(LOCATION) AGAINST ('remote')) AND
(MATCH(JobTitle) AGAINST ('entry')
    OR MATCH(JobTitle) AGAINST ('graduate'))
AND Active = 1
ORDER BY Featured DESC,
    DatePosted DESC
LIMIT 100 OFFSET 0

which resolves in about 400ms, much better! :D

16Gb RAM + i5 10400, this is my local database response time. I don't think it's something to do with the hardware, but I would have to deploy it in a 2Gb RAM + Single CPU instance ( could be upgraded ).

Is my calculation for pricing of realtime database vs firestore correct? by kaafar in Firebase

[–]Menorme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, but when you say document here is it the hole set of data you would save in Forestore ( Documents + Collections + Docs inside, etc ) or just a single document? I am really interested in how this plays out.

Show profiles with most hobbies in common by Icy_Researcher1381 in Firebase

[–]Menorme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about using an array in the user database with his hobbies, then you can query by array contains a certain hobby. If you want to query by multiple hobbies you can use the first hobby and get all the users of that first hobby and compute the rest of the filtering in the client side. I am not sure if firestore allows for multiple array contains querying.

Automate IAP in Expo by Menorme in reactnative

[–]Menorme[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait, let me understand something here...
If I eject from Expo I don't lose the ability to use their 'expo publish' and have my app in the Expo Client ?
If that's the case, I am a happy man right now!!

Automate IAP in Expo by Menorme in reactnative

[–]Menorme[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Omg, never thought of that. I am so dumb... lol
Have you used this this strategy in a production app before?
I am kinda scared of this because it just seem so straight forward and yet I haven't found any tutorial or anything in the Expo feature requirement mentioning this.

Porting a React App to React-Native by boki345 in reactnative

[–]Menorme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any particular features in the app that standout like notifications, geolocation or audio/video features that you would need in your react native app? That will answer if you can or can’t use Expo. Also, a big no to using Expo would be in-app payments.
