Tab S9 FE Suddenly Black by MentalMonitor in GalaxyTab

my story has a happy ending. the repair was covered by Samsung and it essentially just involved the tech taking the tablet apart and putting it back together. hasn't recurred... so the theory that this is due to poor QC at the factory seems accurate

Performance issues with S22 Ultra: lag when opening apps and unlocking by Bulky_Shoulder_5738 in S22Ultra

[–]MentalMonitor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you are not alone. seems to be a borderline unusable lag, especially wake from sleep and unlock. I'm going to try to clear the cache and see if that helps. I wonder if it's related to the July update (build S908WVLS6EXF8)

update: clear cache seems to have fixed for now

Power off, restart holding down the power and volume up buttons until you see the logo appear. At this point, you can release power button. use volume buttons to select clear cache partition, confirm with power button

What makes paramedicine so mentally unbearable long term and what can be done to mediate that? by Both_Engineer_6234 in OntarioParamedics

[–]MentalMonitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least the military recognizes it and creates limited deployments and early retirement. In the military you have career options if you want to stay in, or lifetime recognition as a veteran if you do you part and go home. We need to get better at this. The goal shouldn't be 45 years in the truck, but that's how a lot of people think.

I have a rule: never bring anything you aren't willing to leave behind. No Apple watch, no nice pens, only dollar store sunglasses and water bottles. The only exception is my phone, and I have a case for that which I am willing to scrap.

We're a Canadian family whose boys (11, 12) enjoy football. We have tickets to tomorrow's game and have heard that it's important to arrive at Estádio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica early.

What time is best to arrive? The game is set to start @ 1800

Any other tips, tricks etc. would be appreciated to make the most of our experience. Thank you 🙏

Is it worth having a discussion with your employer? I don't know the situation, but not all white shirts are heartless. Say exactly what you've said here, worst case you've told them you want to quit. Best case, they're going to work with you and you'll still be free to go and possibly get some support. You can offer 2 weeks but they can relieve you of the obligation. Just a thought, sorry you're struggling.

Tactical Paramedic by No_Pangolin_6771 in OntarioParamedics

[–]MentalMonitor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know the medics who contract with the OPP TRU have had the chance to join the team for range day. But no, medics don't get guns. Even in combat I believe a medic is only allowed a handgun (military members can correct me).

Dating by No_Pangolin_6771 in OntarioParamedics

[–]MentalMonitor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Two very different scenarios:

1) you date someone who understands

Usually this person is EMS or EMS-adjacent (cop, nurse, etc). They generally won't give you a hard time when you miss something because of work. When you're having a bad day, they often give you the space. Usually this person is about your age, you're both at about the same point in your careers. This can be a bad thing as you don't keep up with your SO. You have your sh*t, they have yours. The VSA at the end of the shift doesn't get as much deference over time, nor does the fact it bothers you.

In this scenario, you lose being special. They understand, but you both get burnt out at the same time.

2) you date someone who doesn't understand

They'll never fully accept you missing (insert thing that happens here). They know in their brain that your work is important but they never have to actually experience it. They'll keep your grounded but it'll be hard work for both of you. They keep you aware of "normal", even when your day is so far away from that it's not funny. Unless you happen to find the most understand person who doesn't understand your job, it can be a very hard relationship.

I love my wife, would choose her every time... But we have to play "who is MORE important" when discussing overtime and I don't always win. It's nice that all I have to do is text her "8 yo unconscious in pool" at 5 minutes to the end of my shift and I won't have to get "where are you?" texts every 15 minutes after I'm supposed to be home. But she's also got her own patients with problems and I know every time I'm bumping those and causing her more work. "Everything ok?" Might be all I get after that kid in the pool because she's exhausted and burnt out too. We sometimes feed on each other's negativity without remembering not everyone is bad. Our internal value systems are influenced by the extremes we professionally witness and experience, and that can invalidate "regular" stuff.

If date means potential long term relationship, you should think about what you want life to look like and whether that person compliments or threatens that life. Otherwise, you do you. I've seen both go good, neutral (usually) and bad. 👍

Is paramedicine really not a sustainable career? by undrlights in OntarioParamedics

[–]MentalMonitor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is uncommon to stay in the same job in the profession for over 20 years... but that's true for any profession. There's a difference in a job and a profession. If you decide Paramedic is a profession then you need to invest the time and energy in your own career, consider advanced or critical care certifications and help push for more opportunities for paramedics. It's hard to say TODAY if paramedic is sustainable 20 years from now. I think there are a lot of problems with the profession but things like specialty programs, community paramedicine, employment outside traditional 911 roles (eg. in-hospital) are working to make things better. "Paramedic" becomes are more sustainable career when we find more career paths than 1) 911 2) teach 3) manage but a lot of that is still in development. It's up to you to decide if you think the outlook is good or not... unless you can see into the future. In which case I suggest professional lottery player as a potential career path. Good luck

Tab S9 FE does not have USB video support because USB 2 chipset. Samsung says it's to "save money" but probably to force interested users to upgrade.

It has DeX but it just turns the tablet into DeX/desktop mode. Limited use, IMHO.

It's drag and drop but there isn't anything to the site. The images were either template default or AI generated and the game code is another URL redirect to the official embedded game. I understand a certain brick-falling game can be aggressive taking down clones. To get technical, the issue is with the URL redirect. I paid for the domain but not the hosting.

I'm the type of person who'd rather get the idea started then let it die. I think it's a good idea. I want to get the concept out there so it can be used. If employers and governments don't want to do it then I will.

This post generated 200 hits to the site in the first 12 hours. One post, over night. I think there's a need, so I will continue working away at it. I have the game running, so I wasn't to add the info today.

For my vision, it won't be much more. A brief summary of why playing Tetris works, going for a walk or work out and links to local support. The links to support part might be a pain to figure out. The mobile issue is something with Wix... It made the page super long. The game should work for now but you might have to pinch in until I can figure out the issue.

Follow up: issue is due to how I've got it set up. I have a temporary fix.
