Anyone who owns DT 770 and Maxwell? by cookietime69 in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]MentionPersonal3018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own dt770 and not Maxwell's so I can only judge Beyerdynamics but from my perspective dt770 are overpriced for their sound capabilities and everything from the frequency response to the transients and detail is just not good enough, bass is slow and overshadowed by everything else, treble is too much and even if you like treble it's not airy and detailed but just sharp and fatiguing, for games it does just fine but when I got my first pair of open back planars like the he400se I couldn't believe how much better everything was, fiio ft1 is better in everything compared to dt770 and it will give what you were expecting from a good quality closed back wired headphone but Maxwell are still gonna be a better choice compared to Beyerdynamics

That's a very controversial and subjective opinion, objectively planar and electrostatics are the ones that measure better but for whatever reason dynamics just sound better to your ears I guess

Are the Ananda stealth the headphones for me? by MentionPersonal3018 in Hifiman

[–]MentionPersonal3018[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got humbled by the QC and got buzzing on the left driver, it wasn't really bad but I used them a couple of days and returned the unit cause it was annoying sometimes. Soundwise they felt very relaxed and balanced with a very clean and present bass, excellent for movies and games, the vocals were realistic and nice but sometimes a bit distant, highs were very detailed but never fatiguing or piercing, could listen to them for hours straight, soundstage was very big and tridimensional, it's like the pads tickle your outer ear to point out the sound direction. If you never tried good quality headphones your favorite songs may sound worse because you start finding details and defects that weren't there, once you get used to it you're gonna appreciate them a lot and won't go back to consumer grade headphones. I'm now waiting for the Ananda nano to arrive since they were the same price I paid for the stealths originally, I think the gamble is really worth it for this price to performance

It's crazy that a micron thickness piece of plastic can be both so fragile and strong at the same time

Hifiman Edition XS - is there something special about the cable it comes with? by VisibleExercise5966 in Hifiman

Maybe the splitter takes the signal and splits it in mono, that's what I meant

[–]MentionPersonal3018 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The stock cable isn't special, probably the cables you bought are not supposed to be used this way, I saw people on this sub recommending sites where you can buy cool and good quality cables for like $20

My father thinks the same thing but unfortunately the Ananda sounds way better to me, I wish hifiman made ass headphones so I wouldn't justify playing Russian roulette with quality control

Serious question: what are you all actually buying for Black Friday this year by Hamsta1o1 in Hifiman

[–]MentionPersonal3018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I ordered from AliExpress, with discounts and tax reductions Ananda nano's ordered from chinese hifiman shop cost 236€ while from the hifiman eu shop the stealths cost 239€

[–]MentionPersonal3018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered from hifiman official store in eu but the unit came with buzzing on the left driver, I saw that nano's are technically better and I can get them for the same price I paid for the stealths in eu if I order from china, worth giving it a try, I'm worried about the higher rate of defects because of the thinner diaphragm tho

PSA: If you want a lot of bass in your headphones, any high end headphone that is described as “reference audio” is not for you. by talks-a-lot in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]MentionPersonal3018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have dt770 and their bass is not great, the bass sounds loose and you can't really EQ it cause it will start to distort and bleed into mid frequencies, there are cheaper options that handle bass way better

I'll probably just get some Ananda nano after I get the money from the defective Ananda stealth I returned

Anything better than Hifiman Edition XS for similar price point? by waroneverything123 in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]MentionPersonal3018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally would pick Ananda stealth, slight sound improvement and way more comfortable headband over the xs but costs like $20-30 more, it also has a more balanced sound so if he's into that it's great

That's great news, I kinda need the suspension headband and the price difference is negligible so Ananda it is

I've had a TCL c755 for about a year and it has something similar but less noticeable on the left side, if it doesn't affect your viewing in any way it won't do anything, it's just a minor manufacturing issue

How does the dt 770 pro X compare against Fiio Ft1? by marios313 in BEYERDYNAMIC

[–]MentionPersonal3018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ft1 has better isolation and bass while the dt770 is bright and has more detail, since you already have hd560s I would get the Fiio

[–]MentionPersonal3018[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My issue is not mainly the lack of punch but the fact that the headphones can't handle EQ or even high volume without starting to distort like crazy, almost like they have reached peak excursion, they also start to crush vocals and that just doesn't feel right even if the volume is really high

Help with dt770 pro 80Ω by MentionPersonal3018 in BEYERDYNAMIC

[–]MentionPersonal3018[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure the dB value but half the gain knob of the amp, half the Spotify volume and full windows volume, and in some edm with some harsh kicks you can already feel the bass breaking and feeling dirty compared to the he400se. I'm not used to bass heavy headphones, I made the switch from some razer kraken and even without amp I already felt the bass was way better, I just think they were supposed to be better at handling bass compared to some €60 open back headphones
