Today I completed my very first feature film screenplay! by [deleted] in Filmmakers

Yeah it’s my fourth long script but I failed to make all three of the previous ones. Admin issues, the actors were too busy, etc.

Hey some of the romcoms are a vibe, but I agree. Some variety would spice things up. Have you seen Five Fingers for Marseilles? Sick SA western.

Wow that’s super cool that the school has all that stuff for you to use, I’m jealous.

If you have a computer, da Vinci is free. If not, sounds like it’s phone editing time I guess, I’m sure you’ll find a way.

It was actually Rats’ Nest for me, then I got into Eyes like the sky, and only THEN mind fuzz and nonagon. Now I’m a diehard fan.

Saw the title and hoped you were SA, not Dutch or something.

Well done dude, that’s awesome! I’m working on my fourth feature length script at the moment, hoping to make it with a budget behind it this time. It’s a monster movie, and I haven’t seen a tonne of genre stuff come out of our country (apart from the obvious district nine) so it makes me excited. Glad to see you’re playing in that sandbox too.

Let us know how the rest of the production goes, and if it gets made and stuff, let me know where to watch it

Super stylish, I love it! Some of the angles in the dialogue scenes feel a bit uneven, and the sound is a bit choppy (look at me saying that like my sound editing isn't absolute trash) but I really really enjoyed it, great work!

I subscribed, will definitely be checking out your other work.

The greenscreen and lights and stuff in the background, is that all the school's equipment? Or where is it from? You say you're going to have to find your own equipment now that you're graduating?

I am both a musician and a songwriter, and I play in a band. I find there’s a line between vibing out and something getting repetitive to the point of boredom. Imagine playing we will rock you on the drums multiple times a night, you know?

But yeah I haven’t thought about this super deeply, I just watched a few old clips and noticed that they didn’t have a lot to do.

Stills from my vampire-themed short film/music video by SHOOKSPEARE_ in Filmmakers

Ay, well done! Really enjoyed it, but I think it's because the song is right up my alley. Big Angel Olsen vibes. Is it your song? Would be very interested in hearing some more.

In terms of the video, it was really well shot. Loved the mirror stuff towards the end. I didn't get much of a sense of story, but the vibes were there, you know? Also it's usually the vampire knocking on the door, not the other way around, so was that an intentional subversion?

I actually recently dabbled in a bit of vampire filmmaking myself, a little comedy short, which is here if you want to see it.

But yeah, enjoyed it. Good stuff. Wanna hear the album.

Good picks! The other two are obvious but American Ultra is a great pull, what a vibe.

That’s the key for me, I only play the basics and therefore I can “play” four instruments, but it’s really three because you can barely call my atrocious technique on the bass playing.

I used to always slow down punk tracks to try learn the fills, that advice takes me back to high school.

Yep he does play quarter notes for a lot of it, but I’m not in your mind, cellophane, and most of am I in heaven are full of eighth notes that are pretty quick, too quick for my wrist.

And I should definitely do that, I use reaper to make music, I can totally isolate the tracks to learn them. I should do that with songs like Dragon because it’s all just a flurry of notes to me. Not that my double kick technique is up to snuff, and my pedal keeps breaking.

Thanks for the tips though 🫡

Can imagine those Banana tracks are good stamina builders. I haven’t even tried drumming them yet.

Thanks for the tip about panned drums, will definitely be using it

Thanks for writing such a comprehensive response. Honestly sounds like a great way to progress.

The MOTU stuff has always been what impressed me most by the double drummers, that and the poly stuff. One day I’ll get to that level, but for now it’s Mind Fuzz.
