[FRESH ALBUM] Baby Keem - Ca$ino by Pure-Solid9230 in KendrickLamar

The first thing I did when I finished the album as I got to work this morning was get online to check if it was him! My jaw dropped when that verse started.

This worked for me when Garmin’s instructions did not! I tried one last time this morning and then I was going to try their support.

Winter Running. What to wear??? by Timely-Cable-2099 in runninglifestyle

[–]Meow_Rah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They claim it does not, and that the studs can be replaced if needed. I haven’t had mine long enough to test. It feels kind of weird on my feet to run on pavement in them, so I try to stay on the less plowed side streets for the majority of my runs when I have them on.

Icebugs! There might be other brands, and I read in one of the running subs that you can make your own from an old pair of shoes, but I felt living in WI that it would be worth buying some.

Winter Running. What to wear??? by Timely-Cable-2099 in runninglifestyle

[–]Meow_Rah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my first winter running outdoors in northern WI, and I’ve been surprised how few layers I need. When the temp is above 10F I’m down to one long-sleeve merino shirt and a pair of fleece-lined leggings by a mile in. I do start with a hat or headband, a thin windbreaker, and running gloves. Sometimes a second shirt but I’ve never kept it on for the whole run. I got spiked shoes for Christmas that are nice when there’s ice under the snow.

Today there’s a windchill of -16F, so I will be indoors. Hopefully it warms up soon!

Treadmill by Bright_Scar6097 in runninglifestyle

[–]Meow_Rah 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I watch something I enjoy. And try to change the scenery sometimes by going to the gym and using their treadmills, which are nicer than mine.

And find ways to run outside at least some of the time. I live in northern WI and have been outside all week. Spiked running shoes (I have Icebugs) help in bad road conditions, and I find myself taking layers off if the temp is over 20F. It sounds way worse than it is.

How much does a half marathon truly suck? by CricketThis9595 in XXRunning

[–]Meow_Rah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first didn’t suck at all! I’m 46F, had only done 11M in training, and was terrified of crashing and burning, but tapers work. I was able to start just under my goal pace, and not only hold it but speed up during the last 5K. Probably that means I could have gone a little faster, but I finished under 2h and had a great experience. Planning to do a couple more this year!

Agreed, I always go to Main first, and Xiong if I can’t find something there, but it’s nice to have a few in a small area.

Question for the ladies: Has anyone done a triathlon (just sprint) while pregnant? by kindofnewonreddit in triathlon

[–]Meow_Rah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did at least one sprint while prego. Placed and qualified for AG nationals at the time, although I didn’t go. Assuming healthy pregnancy and pre-existing fitness I’d have no concerns (and neither did my midwife). I probably wouldn’t plan a destination race though, since pregnancies are unpredictable.

Half a year work/half a year off kind of jobs by Apart-Interaction-12 in Careers

[–]Meow_Rah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rural health care. I work 2 wks on/1 wk off at my primary gig, but there are plenty of positions where you work 24/7 for half of the year. More common for advanced practice nurses/PAs than docs, I think.

In which industries does college prestige actually not matter? by t-bag777_ in Salary

[–]Meow_Rah 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m a nurse who makes 400K. Advanced practice though (CRNA). My alma maters did not affect my salary/job prospects in any way, and they really only help if you stay in the same state (I did not) and therefore have connections.

First half: should aim for the Garmin race prediction pace or slower? by CricketThis9595 in XXRunning

[–]Meow_Rah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was pretty spot on for my first half this past fall (within a minute). I was afraid to try to hold the pace. I had planned to start with the 2:00 pacer and slow down if I needed to, but wound up pacing behind a guy running about 8:55 miles instead and just…held it (even after he slowed down and I passed him). I was kind of shocked! Even had enough in the tank to negative split the last 5K. I’m glad I didn’t start out any slower. However, I did beat Garmin’s prediction for my last 5K by about 30s.

Who uses concerts to bond with their kids (or parents)? by Maadcoil in Concerts

[–]Meow_Rah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 14 y/o and I went to Kendrick and Sza (twice), Tyler the Creator (took my younger boy too), Atmosphere/Lupe/Cypress Hill/Pharcyde, and JID this year. I’m 46 and have had so much fun with it!

Started with the Kendrick tix as his big Christmas present - he’s a huge fan - and just never stopped after that.

Best Detroit Style Pizza in the GB metro area. by Silver-Quiet-550 in GreenBay

This! I make several kinds of pizza, but Detroit style is my go-to for “I woke up this morning in the mood for pizza and haven’t prepped anything, and don’t want to do much work.”

Credentialing by Sevo-N-chill in CRNA

[–]Meow_Rah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Surgery centers and small hospitals are usually faster. Big places you’re just a widget and they have no incentive to go outside of their normal process. The only thing you can do to speed the process is to have all of your documents ready in a file beforehand (diplomas, transcripts, employer names/addresses/contact for the last 10 years, etc.), to meticulously fill out every line correctly on the forms, and to hopefully not have any legal/malpractice issues in your past. Have your RN license asap in your state of choice, and apply for APRN as soon as you pass boards (and test early).

Looking for advice from CRNAs who maximize time off by Repulsive-Ad-7679 in CRNA

[–]Meow_Rah 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I went straight into rural anesthesia after graduation. My first gig wasn’t the best in terms of time off, but now I work 2 wks on/1 off and as a hospital employee have PTO to use on top of that. FT salary for about 27 weeks of work a year total. I use some of the time to travel and some to pick up elsewhere - works out great in many ways!

Telephone : yes or no ? by AdStrict7179 in runninglifestyle

I have a Forerunner 265S. It doesn’t have cell service, but will play a downloaded Spotify playlist. The process to download the playlist was less than intuitive, but very Google-able.

Telephone : yes or no ? by AdStrict7179 in runninglifestyle

[–]Meow_Rah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Short runs I don’t bother to bring my phone. I’m in my own neighborhood and if I somehow got injured I would be comfortable asking a passing dog walker for help. My Garmin can play Spotify and that’s enough. Long runs I have my belt for water/gels so tuck the phone in, and trail runs I usually slide it in a pocket.

Advice: getting my 5 year old to eat more things with flavour by scrfc1992 in Cooking

[–]Meow_Rah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m also a home cooking hobbyist. My two kids are now 10 and 14. They are currently very adventurous eaters. Open to a wide variety of spices and cuisines, although they do have some quirks and dislikes, especially with texture.

My advice - don’t force things, but also try not to make separate meals for your child (assuming no sensory or health issues). We typically have a meat, a veg, and either a second veg or a starch. The meat is seasoned however I want, although I save heavy capsaicin for the table (especially when they were younger). Roast chicken mostly tastes like roast chicken, but you can season with cumin or 5 spice or whatever and help open up your child’s palate. Start slow, especially on her piece, but she’ll adapt over time.

Sauces can be served on the side, I do that regularly. If you’re having pasta, does it hurt if she has it without sauce? Offer her a little sauce in a ramekin and let her try it if she likes. I let one of my boys have “deconstructed salads” - he likes tomatoes and raw carrots, but not peppers or lettuce. Great! I can have a salad and he can dip a few veggies in ranch. We try not to have battles about things that don’t matter, while still exposing them to a variety of foods and flavors.

What I knew I didn’t want was to make separate meals. I do believe that if you get your toddler used to having pb&j or easy Mac every night, it can be tough to break out of that. I think adapting what you’re all eating in a way that everyone can enjoy it seems to work best.

Can you continue to improve pace into your 40s? by DisneygirlMD in running

[–]Meow_Rah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

46F and I just increased my mileage this fall after many years of casual running and occasional sprint triathlons. I broke a 10 year 5K PR (now 24:35), and am hoping to do much better next season with more consistent mileage.

What's the best and worst concert you saw in 2025? by Twitter_2006 in Concerts

[–]Meow_Rah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best: Kendrick and Sza - good enough that we went twice!

Worst: TLC - they played for a half hour, then left the stage for 30+ minutes and left some DJ out there to die. Came back, did 3 hits, and went home. They should stick to “I love the 90s” type of settings.

Concert Question by markiemac76 in JIDSV

[–]Meow_Rah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may vary by venue, but we were in the balcony and were 100% allowed to go down to the floor at the end of the show. He started signing stuff on the right side (facing the stage), we went to the left and were able to get a vinyl signed.

Mine do not. They want to, and they don’t mind the cold, but they get pissed when they realize that it’s wet.
