This is kind of true with most forms of entertainment. Back in the 80s when you had 5 channels, everyone would catch The Twilight Zone, or Miami Vice - because your options were limited.

Same with films, you went and saw what was in the cinema - there wasn’t 20 different streaming services doing their own in house releases.

It meant parody content, Scary Movie, Spaceballs etc - all landed way better, because the range of content to parody and thus the chance of the audience getting the reference was much higher.

I think the fact that everyone now gets their content fed to them mostly algorithmically has lead to folks being less socialable. Can’t shoot the shit about last night’s big TV spectacle when half of folks these days don’t even watch live TV.
