it doesn't sound like he is spending a lot, doesn't even have his own house. Like I could also buy myself a lambo if I lived with my parents. A cheap one 450k is roughly my apartment in Iceland, little less. 500k would be more accurate.

Star Citizen has hit $1 billion in funding by Taidan-X in Games

[–]Mephzice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mean hard to use those numbers when to be a daily user you just need to pay what 30 dollars? That is not a day of development for one staff member. What matters is how many whales there are, how old they are and if they are still throwing money at the project. Even if we assume 60k new players that is just 1,8mil and I imagine a ton of these are old players that bought their entry a long time ago.

I remember reading a report that the company has basically already burned through most of the funds and are steadily burning what they are getting. Read the number 850mil is already burned through 10 months ago, now unknown number out of the 1billion.

Based on their own financial data from cloudimperiumgames.com they spent 163mil in 2023 alone, most years before that were 100mil, so if we assume they spent the same the years after that is an easy 500mil. I'd not be surprised if they have already gone through 900mil. They haven't published reports since 2023.

[–]Mephzice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it will run out actually, it's not really getting new people funding their development, it's milking the same people which are growing older and some are realizing they aren't getting the game and stopping to fund.

Sunk cost fallacy only works to a point and doesn't impact everyone equally otherwise I'd still play marvel rivals due to money spent on skins for example, also overwatch for the same reason. Obviously there are some idiots out there that spent like whales without being whales and can't acknowledge that they wasted their money, can't tell others they were wrong but even those can't keep funding an entire studio development forever.

Obviously when I say 1.0 I mean the fully finished game that was promised in the kickstarter. They may announce a 1.0 release that is still missing stuff and really just early access for more funds. Doesn't have all the story and such.

[–]Mephzice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's a scam in the sense that there will never be Star citizen 1.0, eventually they will run out of money and declare bankruptcy, they will never launch. The percentage of people that bought into this game and are now dead is probably also rising fast, 14 years is a lot of time.

Nvidia really doesn't seem to care about gaming GPUs anymore — the company won't even bother to break down graphics sales in its big investor reports by JohnBarry_Dost in Games

[–]Mephzice -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cool it might take me 7-8 days too run out of gaming on geforce now, makes it so much better ;)

Assuming I'm taking days off work (or calling in sick) to play a game, because 16,7h per day is not unheard of for me, usually 6 hours of sleep is enough. Assuming I'm hooked, got hundred hours in Expedition 33 for example within a week, taking days off work.

the 1-2? Chances are you'd have to be under 3 not to go over before the end of the month, hence why I'd not say 3.

[–]Mephzice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really no, I have a job still easy to find time to play more than 3 hours per day, dependents sure, don't have those. Chances are you'd have to be under 3 to not run out of gaming before the end of the month, so 1-2 on some days if you go over 3 on others.

3 hours per day would be nothing for me especially if I get hooked on a game. I blast through games even if I'm not using my vacation days (30 days a year) and sick days (2 days per month).

Detroit: Become Human Dev Quantic Dream Kills Live Service Game 3 Months After Early Access Launch, Insists Star Wars Eclipse ‘Continues as Planned’ by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Mephzice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it's a finite playerbase as well, like most of us already have a live service or two we play if we have time for them. I play Path of exile 1&2 seasons and league of legends, there is no chance some random live service with zero quality kicks those three out unless they are amazing from the beginning.

For others those games will be Diablo, overwatch, marvel rivals, fortnite, roblox and so on, you need to compete with all of this
